GARDEN OF THE GODS RESORT AND CLUB MEMBER NEWSLETTER

MESSAGE FROM

Dear Valued Members,

FISCHER

It is a sincere pleasure to write to you as the acting President & CEO of your Garden of the Gods Resort & Club. I am delighted to once again be a part of this vibrant Club having overseen it as the Regional VP for Destination Hotels in the early 2000’s. Judy Mackey and Brenda Smith have done a marvelous job of shepherding the Club and taking it to the next level and I am delighted to help support and continue their vision of change and growth of this beautiful property.

In the spirit of change, your Club is undergoing some additional renovation and beautification. We are pleased to share that work has begun to enhance the Kissing Camels Clubhouse. Changes include an upgraded arrival experience, a redesign of the Grille and an expansion of the outside balcony terraces in The View. We anticipate this project to be completed by the first week of December.

I would also like to tell you that the 2023 Member Survey will be deployed next week directly from DRC Research, and we encourage you to take the time to give us your feedback. Please be looking for further information that will be coming out about this important survey.

And finally, we are excited to share a new twist on the Fall Festival that many of you have made a tradition by attending with family and friends. This year’s Festival will be themed all things Oktoberfest. Our team is working diligently on delivering you an experience to remember, and we look forward to welcoming you all.

Yours Sincerely,

BALANCE & MAINTAINING POSTURE

As we get closer to the “off season” in the Pikes Peak region, I recommend working on your balance this fall/winter. Here is a drill to help you maintain good balance while keeping good golf posture. Working on this drill will help you maintain better balance and posture as you prepare for spring.

KETTLE BELL TRANSFER – 10 passes of the kettle bell between your hands (back & forth) while standing on one foot in golf posture. 3 passes of 10x, then switch feet. Doing this drill barefooted will help increase balance initially and give you a better feel of the drill. (10-15 lb. kettle bell is a sufficient weight)

CONGRATS TO LANDRY FROST

Landry Frost, one of our junior golfers here at Kissing Camels was the medalist at the Drive, Chip, and Putt Regional Qualifier at Castle Pines Golf Club on Saturday, September 24, 2023!

She will be going to Augusta National Golf Club this spring, home of The Masters Tournament, to participate in the national finals for her age division (Girls 14-15).

This is a lifetime accomplishment for a young lady that works so hard on her game. We are so proud to see her hard work pay off!!

IRRIGATION IMPROVEMENTS WITH THE GROUNDS TEAM

We are in the process of upgrading irrigation heads on the south and lower north golf courses. The irrigation system on these holes is out of date and set up in a double row where the main lines run down both sides of the fairway. The sprinkler heads are set up on 90-foot spacings.

The heads we are replacing are old brass impact heads that are inefficient and not accurate. This style head has not been manufactured for over 20 years. Through the past two seasons we have been purchasing modern sprinkler heads that are much more efficient. You can see the difference in the video below. These heads allow us to irrigate the same area in a more reliable and responsible way.

The new heads do not waste water and they turn in a circle accurately without getting stuck. As of now we have replaced 40 heads with about 200 more to go. So if you see our irrigation team members “playing in the mud” they are most likely fixing something that is broken but a lot of the time they are out there making improvements too!

ACUPUNCTURE & IMMUNE HEALTH MED MED

COVID-19 has impacted our lives and we are all looking for ways to strengthen our immune systems and stay healthy. What makes one person more vulnerable to germs than another person? According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) germ theory, germs do not make you sick; rather, the body’s inability to fend off germs and foreign invaders is what results in someone succumbing to illness.

Think about it…How is it possible that some people have the coronavirus and are asymptomatic, others have mild cold/flu symptoms, some people will never contract the virus at all, and for a smaller number of people it is life-threatening? The answer according to TCM: the strength of your immune system and the degree to which you have other imbalances or illnesses.

How can TCM help you to stay healthy? Regular acupuncture treatments (at least monthly) not only strengthen your immune system but also treat underlying imbalances that may exist at the physical, emotional, or mental levels. T hese imbalances may be causing health issues or chronic diseases that will improve with acupuncture treatments. T he more balanced your body, mind and emotions, the healthier you will be ; your body will have the ability to fend off viruses and other foreign invaders.

Strata Med also offers Immunity Stratapacks that contain a variety of powerful eastern and western supplements that strengthen the immune system and help your body to fight off colds/flus. You can purchase an Adult Pa ck or Family Pack, that includes supplements for children under the age of 11.

Take charge of your immune health today by coming in for acupuncture and getting an Immunity Stratapack!

OCTOBER IS THE MONTH OF TRANSITION

As temperatures cool we focus more on more indoor activities. Our nutritional choices shift to heavier, preserved foods. As a result, we tend to increase our calorie consumption while decreasing our activity levels, and we become stiffer and heavier.

Historically, the number of members who visit Strata Fit drops significantly after September, even among those who reside here year-round. In fitness, we like to say that momentum and consistency are the keys to staying healthy. This includes continuing to attend classes and using the wide variety of exercise equipment we offer.

NELSON & DILSWORTH WEDDING

Kylan and Drew had the perfect fall wedding. The air was crisp and the aspen trees were golden when Kylan and Drew said "I Do" at our Resort in late October. Fall in Colorado is truly magical and when you get to experience a wedding during this time of the year, it is a real treat. Pops of yellow and orange begin to show throughout the mountains while the smell of autumn is dancing in the breeze. There are many benefits to having a wedding in the fall, The weather for the most part is temperate and more reliable. Instead of providing fans or umbrellas for your guests, you can get more creative by providing thoughtful touches like hot apple cider or customized fleece blankets for your guests to enjoy.

WEDDING HIGHLIGHT

It was all in the details for Kylan and Drew's Halloween themed wedding. We always get excited to see how creative our couples get when it comes to their wedding decor but when they plan their entire wedding around a theme, it is so much fun!

Kylan and Drew decided to incorporate their favorite holiday into their big day and it turned out to be one of our favorite wedding setups we have seen. From their florals with colors of purples, oranges and yellows, to their black cat grooms cake, down to the real pumpkin centerpeices, and Kylan's halloween themed socks. This couple really went all out and their guests, as well as, the Resort team loved it!

When it comes to weddings, it is very easy to get caught up in having the perfect "trending" wedding decor but, when you begin to start planning your big day around details you and your partner love the most, then it becomes less stressful and more enjoyable. It was great to see that Kylan and Drew put their happiness first and had fun with their wedding decor. In the end, a wedding is a celebration of two people making a lifelong commitment to each other alongside their family and friends and the couple and we want all of our couples to do what brings them the most joy.

What inspires you?

I enjoy figuring out new ways to enhance flavors in a dessert. I put love into each dessert I make, and my philosophy is to always be thinking about what I can do to improve.

What are your favorite things to make?

Croissants and pastries have been a specialty of mine. One of my favorite desserts to make is my interpretation on a puff pastry. I create a light pastry cream with soft vanilla flavors in a small bowl and then I place the crisp puff pastry on top. This way when you must crack through the puff pastry to get to the soft pastry cream underneath. It resembles a similar approach to how you would eat a crème brulee.

What are some must-trys for our members?

I highly recommend going to our brunch and trying out the assortment of pastry options we provide. I have been focusing on making my desserts very inclusive for anyone with dietary restrictions and include a variety of gluten free and dairy free items on our menus. Click here to view our Sunday Brunch Buffet!

What is your vision for new menu creations?

I really love doing a spin on classic desserts by presenting them on the plate deconstructed. For example, I take the classic black forest cake and display it on the plate with a gluten free chocolate spouge cake next to a cherry filled pudding with a gelatin dome made of a cherry brandy compote. Then to top it off a chocolate fudge can then be poured over it. Dessert pictured above.

Lexi Reich, writer for 7x7, recently visited the resort for a wellness weekend and wrote about her experiences in this article, going into thoughtful detail about her healing Ayurvedic treatment at Strata Spa.
