Speaker: Win Reber, resident, artist Topic: The History of Animation From the beginnings of time, man has wanted to make his drawings move. Artists developed cartoon strips that moved the story along in pictures. We learned that if we changed the pictures quickly enough, they would appear to move. This led to things like flip-books and eventually to projected moving images on a screen. No, Snow White was not the first. Come and learn about the artists and the dramas and the promoters who struggled to make drawings actually move before our eyes in this ever changing and amazing industry.

MARKETING
Scott Miller, Chief Marketing Officer
THE INTERNAL MOVE CONTINUUM Garden Spot Village residents have the opportunity to move within the community. Often people will choose to move from a cottage or carriage home to an apartment. If this is something you may eventually want to consider, you should plan ahead for the move. Right now there is increased interest in moves within the campus so the wait time for current residents is longer than it had been in the past. Even if you are a few years away from considering a move, it is never too early to talk to Sales to gather information about the options available to you, as well as the approximate wait time and costs involved.

WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY JANUARY 12 - APRIL 13
7pm, Chapel
Chaplain Karyn and Pastor Chet will lead the series entitled “Tough Questions from the Bible.” We’ll look at practices in the Bible which may have changed over the centuries and which seemingly God sanctioned in the old Testament but changed or eliminated in the New Testament. This study will engage with some deep questions in order to understand the heart of God and develop a fuller relationship with God.
VESPERS SERVICE SUNDAY, JANUARY 9
6pm, Chapel
But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. - Isaiah 43:1 All are welcome to come as you are to a time of scripture reading, hymn singing, meaningful reflection and prayer centered on the theme of “Belonging and Blessed.”
A QUIET PRESENCE INVITATION
Looking for a meaningful way to volunteer? Partner with Pastoral Services to serve as A Quiet Presence. Setting aside a two hour block of time, this valued ministry pairs a presence with a resident in the ending days of life. To know someone is holding a hand, reading aloud, singing softly, or simply sitting quietly by a resident’s bedside gives comfort and care to the resident, families and staff. Every life matters. Journeying alongside those who are dying guides them through a gentle transition from this life to the next. We believe no one should die alone. Contact Chaplain Karyn (6235) for more information.

12 SHOPS OF CHRISTMAS: A SUCCESS STORY! Thursday, December 2 through Saturday, December 11 Garden Spot Village hosted the 12 Shops of Christmas Tour through Lancaster County’s Best Kept Secrets Tour. Over the course of nine shopping days we opened our doors and extended our best hospitality to shoppers from Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and more. Pop-up shops by Artists-in-Friends, the Cross-Stitch club, the Quilters and resident jewelry makers added to the festivities. On Saturdays, resident musicians offered live music to supplement the festivities. On Tuesday, December 7, volunteers offered complimentary gift wrapping. Over and over again we overheard people saying, “This is a wonderful place. I wonder what it would be like to live here?”
While at first blush the 12 Shops of Christmas appears to be all about shopping, we really see it as an opportunity to showcase the abundant opportunities people have to live in community at Garden Spot Village.
Our interactions with each other and our guests demonstrate quickly the way we build community at Garden Spot Village. To everyone who participated in the tour—either through volunteering at the Welcome Table, helping to stock Linden and Share & Care, greeting shoppers at The Artisans Corner or simply offering a smile to our guests—THANK YOU!
Quick Facts from the 12 Shops of Christmas Tour • $14,222.01 in sales at Linden
• $7,777.47 in sales at Share & Care
• $7,709.00 in sales at The Artisans Corner • 856 shoppers over 10 days
• Approximately 200 volunteers

WELLNESS
HOW TO BE HEALTHIER PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY IN 2022 (Pick up a copy of the full report at the Wellness Center)
Seven tips you can use now
1. Eat mushrooms, lower your depression risk. Eating two mushrooms a day also lowers your cancer risk by 50%. 2. Take naps, but short ones. Nap for less than 60 minutes and before 3:00pm to ensure a good night sleep.

5. Sleep at the same time every night for better heart health. Falling asleep between 10pm and 11pm might be most ideal for heart health, a study out of the United Kingdom found. 6. Stay hydrated; lower your risk of heart failure. Try for 3-5 glasses of water daily, along with other sugarfree, decaffeinated beverages. 7. Avoid sitting for long periods – it’s bad for your mental health. Get up and move, stretch, dance or walk at least for a minute or two every hour you are awake.
