GET A BIRD’S EYE VIEW AT GSV!
February may be cold, but it is a beautiful time to gather with friends during our month-long Birdhouse Display and Silent Auction. This annual event will feature handcrafted birdhouses from the woodshop and spring/bird theme items from GSV quilters, crafters, cross-stitchers and art guild. In-Person + Online Returning in 2022—we will host the silent auction in the Village Square Indoor Park AND also hold an online auction. There will be a convenient method directing the public to the online auction in order to join in this fundraising event for the Benevolent Care Fund. Both auctions begin Tuesday, February 1, and bidding closes at 5 pm on Monday, February 28. To usher in the start of spring, the unique items in this silent auction make excellent, one-of-a-kind gifts. Thank you to the wood shop members, quilters, artists and other talented residents who have created and donated items to raise money for the Benevolent Care Fund.

BE A GATHERINGS AT THE TABLE HOST IN 2022!
We are excited to share our partnership with residents, chefs, and friends to offer Gatherings at the Table, formerly known as Share-a-Meals, in the spring and fall of 2022. Event hosts will welcome small groups of 6-14 guests, to their home or favorite setting, for a beautiful time of community and conversation. Guest tickets benefit the Benevolent Care Fund at Garden Spot Village. Hosts design the menu, prepare the meal, set the table, and welcome guests to the gathering. Breakfasts, brunches, luncheons, and dinners are all welcome to the table. Be creative! Interested hosts are encouraged to call Wendy Nagle (6215). Get ready—guest tickets for your event will go on sale in March.

Daryl Groff, Director of Volunteer Services
LINDEN’S ESSENTIALS OFFER A TASTE OF LANCASTER COUNTY Have you ever needed just milk, eggs or a loaf of bread and didn’t feel like driving to the grocery store? With Linden, located in the space adjacent to Refresh Coffee Bar, you can pick up those essentials and save yourself the trip to Yoder’s or Shady Maple.
Amanda Feeg, volunteer director assistant, manages the “essentials” portion of the inventory at Linden. She works very hard to provide quality, locally-sourced food options for Garden Spot Village residents and team members. Each week she places orders with Best of Lancaster County, a local wholesale company that helps local, family-owned businesses connect with retailers. Amanda orders wholesale deliveries of products from Kreider Farms, Stoltzfus Meats, Fisher’s Homestyle Salads, September Farms and Spring Glen. Fisher’s offers single-serve options of home-cooked Lancaster County favorites like ham loaf, chicken pot pie and candied yams, which are very popular.
Other customer favorites include September Farm Cheeses and tapioca, red beet eggs, ring bologna as well as sausage from Stoltzfus Meats. Amanda orders seasonal favorites, making sure she has sausage grillers and fresh cole slaw in the summer and soups, bacon, cheese and ring bologna through the winter.
She also works with Good’s Potato Chips in Adamstown, which delivers their two varieties of potato chips—homestyle and kettle cooked. The Central Kitchen at Garden Spot Village bakes fresh bread each week for Linden. They offer white, wheat, cinnamon raisin and vegetable bread. Ice cream is ordered from Fox Meadows. Amanda aims to offer seasonal flavors, most recently introducing Two Turtle Doves, Three French Hens and Raspberry Chocolate Chip Sorbet.
On Tuesdays, Garden Spot’s aeroponic greenhouse delivers fresh lettuce and greens. Other items include fresh cut flowers from Petal Perfect, baked items from Shady Maple and Emma’s Popcorn. Volunteers Ed and Darlene Smith purchase additional essentials at Yoder’s. Their weekly shopping list includes cereal, flour, sugar, cough medicines, batteries and bulk items like nuts, candy and chocolates. They also purchase cleaning supplies, soaps and other dry goods. If you need it, Ed and Darlene, probably already picked it up for you!
Over the years, Ed has fostered a relationship with the produce manager at Yoder’s so that Linden can offer a good supply of bananas—one of Linden’s most popular products! Three times a week, he picks up bunches of bananas to make sure there is always a fresh supply.
So, what’s on your shopping list? Before you run to the store, check at Linden. In addition to a convenient option to picking up “just a few items,” the best part of picking up your essentials at Linden is that 100% of the proceeds go to the Benevolent Fund!
