“It gave me instant peace of mind” I borrowed £14,000 and payed off my credit cards, personal loans and store cards. It gave me instant peace of mind and eased the pressure on my finances. It was a constant worry thinking I’d not have enough money
Susan’s story Susan, a Sales Rep from Manchester did exactly that. She contacted Fluent Money last year as she wanted to tidy up her credit and reduce her monthly outgoings. By arranging a secured loan, Susan was able to consolidate her debt into one manageable payment each month.
at the end of the month to cover my bills and basic living expenses. The odd treat and luxuries weren’t possible. Fluent were fantastic, they kept me up to date all the way through the process. I had my own adviser and case manager so I always spoke to the same people each time I called. They worked hard to keep everything moving and were always on hand to help with the paperwork. The mobile app was brilliant; I always knew where my case was up to as they sent notifications when it moved on to the next stage. It was such a weight off my mind and I now have a little more money at the end of the month for the odd treat. I know exactly when my loan will be paid off and feel organised. I’d definitely recommend Fluent to my friends and family!
Susan
9.1% APRC Representative Representative example: Assumed borrowing of £18,000 over 120 months, with a fixed borrowing rate of 6.5% per annum for the first 60 months, followed by 60 months at the lender’s standard variable borrowing rate of 4.95% above Bank of England Base Rate. There would be 60 monthly instalments of £227.38 followed by 60 instalments of £221.71. Total amount payable £26,945.40 comprised of; loan amount (£18,000); interest (£6,920.40); Broker fee (£1,530); FLUENT LIFESTYLE Issue 03 Summer 2019 Lender fee (£495). This would result in an overall cost of 9.1% APRC.

4 | FLUENT MORTGAGES
To fix or not to fix… that is the question Interest rates for mortgages and loans are relatively low so now is a good time for borrowers to shop around and seriously consider locking-in their monthly repayments. Here are some pro and cons to fixing your rate:
Pros For the length of your mortgage deal you won’t have to worry if the Base Rate rises, as your rate of interest will stay the same. You’ll know exactly how much you’ll be paying each month, making budgeting much easier.
According to data from credit agency Experian, in May, 81% of mortgage shoppers were searching for fixed rate mortgages. But why are fixed rate deals so popular?
There are lots of very competitive fixed rate deals available right now.
Cons
Deciding whether to fix your mortgage rate or opt for variable product is a common conundrum faced by prospective borrowers.
If interest rates drop you won’t benefit from it, as you would with a tracker mortgage. These mortgages generally track the Bank of England Base Rate which is currently still very low at 0.75%.
People want certainty when it comes to their finances, especially in times of economic uncertainty. Rising popularity in fixed-term mortgages tell us borrowers are looking for low, fixed monthly payments to manage their outgoings and keep control of their finances.
You may have to pay an early repayment charge (ERC) to end your deal if you decide to pay off your mortgage early. This is true for many mortgage deals, but it’s definitely something to consider if you think you might need to move in the future or think you’re likely
Looking to switch to a better deal? Fluent Mortgages could help.
If you’re approaching the end of your introductory mortgage offer or want to switch to a better deal, speak to a money magazine from Fluent specialist mortgageThe adviser
to receive a windfall. With fixed rate deals, the ERC is usually higher at the beginning of the deal and reduces towards the end of it. Depending on the length of the fixed rate deal, interest rates may be higher. For example, a ten year deal is likely to have a higher rate of interest than a two year deal. But don’t worry, Fluent are here to help. We can find the best option for your circumstances and search the market for the best possible deal.
Plus, with our
Smartphone App, you can see where your case is up to 24/7. We send push notifications in real time and you can contact your case manager directly within the App for your convenience.
We take the hassle out of the paperwork, as you’ll be assigned your own case manager.

Top tips to keep the children busy this summer
It’s that time of year. The schools have broken up and you’re looking for ways to keep the children entertained. You’re in luck. Here are five ideas guaranteed to provide entertainment that you’ll all enjoy.
It’ll then give you the coordinates of a number of geocaches near you. Now all you need to do is use your smartphone to find the treasure.
Geocaching
If exploring isn’t your thing, or the weather has come over all British, there are plenty of other ways to have fun.
Geocaching is the latest craze and it’s becoming more and more popular. Fundamentally, it’s a free, outdoor, GPS-based treasure hunt game that you play using an app on your phone. The app is free and available for iPhones and Android devices. It’s not just staring at a screen – you’ll get out and about and the children will love being on an active adventure. The rules are simple. Visit the Geocaching website, sign up and enter your postcode.

You can download the apps and find out more at the official Geocache website.
Shoot a music video
Shooting a music video is a simple way to keep you and the children entertained. There are lots of free apps available which have a catalogue of songs suitable for all tastes. They’ll even give you tips on how to get the best results. For Android, FilmoraGo is an easy-to-use free video editor that lets you stitch different video clips together and play your favourite songs alongside.
See our Summer Fajita recipe on page 18
If you have an Apple device, iMovie, which is free to download from the App Store, is extremely user-friendly, and can turn your self-shot home videos into masterpieces. Alternatively, for that real DIY aesthetic, play some music and shoot it with your own video camera or mobile.
Baking This is a great way to get the children engaged while also being productive is cooking or baking. Something simple, such as cupcakes or pizza, can be a great way to pass the time. They should enjoy eating the results of their work too.
There are countless websites and books that can give you step-by-step instructions. The BBC food recipe page is often a good place to start. Naturally, they will need supervision while baking or cooking. Not only to make sure they’re doing it right, but also to keep them safe.
Writing a letter to family Keep up with their writing skills over the summer, penning a letter to their family is a great idea. These make great keepsakes and helps them prepare for going back to school in September. Got some spare stamps? Why not stretch your legs, go the extra mile and take the letter with them to your local post box? You could even make it a regular activity.
Cinema Another way to keep them entertained this summer is a trip to the cinema. There are often deals and discounts you can get your hands on from sites such as Groupon or hotukdeals. Alternatively, if the cinema is too far away or out of your budget, why not set up your own at home? Dim the lights, close the curtains, grab some popcorn and recreate that full cinema experience.

Bridging the gap
between retirement dreams and reality Travelling, hobbies and giving money to children and grandchildren are the top three things employed people would most like to do when they retire, according to Aviva’s Retirement Reality report. But the findings also show a gap between people’s hopes for the future, and the reality they may face. We’re now living much longer than previous generations, meaning our pension pot will have to stretch further. If you’re still paying off a mortgage, you may have to work past your planned retirement date. Surely retirement should be something we all look forward to. We should be aiming to thrive, not just survive!
Get the retirement you deserve If you’re one of the thousands approaching retirement with a cash shortfall you might want to think about using your home to boost your income. Many look at downsizing to access the equity in their home. However, for a lot, the cost of moving, stress, upheaval and thought of leaving the home they’ve made so many memories in is just not a consideration. An alternative solution for homeowners aged 55+ is an equity release plan. Equity release is

Expert advice is important
the general name for products that let you access cash tied up in the value of your home without moving. The most popular type of equity release plan is a lifetime mortgage. This is where you take out a loan secured against your home that is only repaid when you move into long-term care or when you die. At this point your home will be sold.
With so much choice, it’s important to get specialist advice from an expert. An equity release adviser will explain how a lifetime mortgage will reduce the value of your estate and may affect your entitlement to means tested benefits. A specialist adviser will get to know your individual circumstances and work out if a lifetime mortgage is right for you. Unsecured loans Vs Credit Cards Five times when it might be smarter to use an unsecured loan instead of a credit card.
Looking to borrow between £1,000 and £25,000? Fluent Loans FLUENT LIFESTYLE Issue 03 Summer 2019 could help.
We can source unsecured loans with rates starting from 3.9% APR variable, although the rate you secure will depend on your individual circumstances. 15.9% APR (variable) Representative Representative example: If you borrow £10,000 over 4 years at a representative 15.9% and an annual interest rate of 15.9% (fixed) you would pay £277.53 per month. Total charge for credit will be The money magazine from Fluent £3,321.44. Total amount repayable is £13,321.44.
1
Review your budget
A unsecured loan may be more appropriate than a credit card when you need to make a major purchase that could use up half or more of your available card credit and you don’t plan to pay off the balance right away.
2
You want a lower rate
Unsecured loans are specifically designed for paying over the long term, so their interest rates are tailored to be fair and conducive to paying off a debt. Though the APR on your personal loan depends heavily on your credit score but can easily be under 10%, whereas the average credit card APR is 17.72%. Credit cards make very little sense as a long-term revolving debt, unless you have a 0% intro APR offer. 3
You can’t pay off the balance quickly
The higher interest rates on revolving credit card balances are a huge downside to financing major purchases on a credit card. If you know that you won’t be able to pay off a balance for a long time, financing a purchase on a credit card will cost much more money in the long run than it would to pay for it using an unsecured personal loan.
4
However, this only makes sense when the card you’re transferring to has a 0% APR period. Otherwise, you would be paying a much higher interest rate on the revolving balance than you would with a personal loan. Personal loans are the best option for debt consolidation, because they offer lower interest rates, fixed payment plans, and alleviate any strain on your debt-to-credit ratio.
You want to have a structured payment schedule 5
Credit card repayment is based on the current balance held, which can grow based on your spending and on interest for an unpaid balance. They only require a minimum payment each month to cover interest charges. You can take as long as you want to pay off a credit card balance, but the longer you take, the more interest you pay. Unsecured loans, however, disburse cash in one lump sum, and come with a built-in repayment plan. You know exactly how much you will have to pay back each month, you know how much will go to interest and how much will go to the principal, and you know the exact date you will be done paying.
You want to consolidate other debt
Credit cards offer balance transfers for borrowers who want to move debt from one card to another.
