Reuse and Refill Stations in Plant Feeding

Recycling is important, yet we really should be reusing the packaging we purchase and in doing so save money too. Here at Evergreen Garden Care we have launched the first refill stations in garden centres and introduced bottles and jars for life.

From May 2022 a Tomorite liquid refill station can be found at the Notcutts Rivendell store, near Warrington. Consumers can either buy their bottle for life in store or bring their old 1 litre bottle to refill. Pricing is comparable to a pre-filled bottle, yet the consumer can reduce the amount they spend by bringing back their bottle for life and only paying for the product inside. Our bottle for life means you can wave goodbye to single use plastic and save money too! In British Garden Centre Group’s Playhatch store near Reading, we are trialling a grass seed and plant food granule refill station. This station allows consumers to purchase only what they need and there is a set of scales where the consumer can weigh the packaging and then the product to get a price. We offer a range of packaging solutions, either a jar or bottle for life, a paper bag for the seed or alternatively bring your own jar or bottle.

Reduce plastic use

Reusing jars or bottles saves on single use plastic. At Miracle-Gro® our jars are made of 100% recycled plastic and are recyclable.

Grow more, waste less

Reducing plastic consumption, reduces waste and saves the world’s precious resources.

Save money

By reusing jars or bottles for life, you don’t have to pay for the container.

Reduce our plastic footprint together

By refilling and reusing, you are reducing the number of jars and bottles that need to be recycled.

We will be monitoring the results of the trial, if successful we will launch more refill stations in the future, so watch this space.

Focused on Packaging

Over the last four years Evergreen Garden Care has revisited and improved every piece of product packaging and on pack communication.

We want to make sure our packaging doesn’t end up in landfill and where possible, is recycled. Clear on-pack communication is vital, so our labels now show what action our customers should take to recycle responsibly. By 2023 all updated and new products will have instructions. For packaging that does not show the logo, just go to our product pages at lovethegarden.com

Sadly not everything can be recycled at home and for those products we ask consumers to take their packaging to supermarkets or in some cases selected garden centres. We have trialled a recycling scheme to encourage consumers to return their compost bags so they can be recycled. For more information, visit the link below.

Cardboard made from sustainable forests

For many years we have been purchasing cardboard made from sustainable forests and from now on you will start to see the FSC or PEFC logos on packaging and on our website.

Increasing our use of recycled material into our packaging

If we encourage our consumers to recycle, it’s essential that Evergreen Garden Care creates packaging that contains recycled material. 90% of our products now contain at least 30% recycled material collected from consumers’ homes. Watch this space for more exciting packaging initiatives – the future is certainly bright!
