Registration Policies
All registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may request to be placed on a wait list if a program is full. A City of Garland Waiver and Release of Claim must be on file for each registrant prior to participating in any program.

We strive to promote activities that provide a positive, independent leisure experience through standard, specialized, adapted, and inclusive programs. Please call your local recreation center if you have a special need or require any special accommodations.
Program Satisfaction Policy
We stand behind the quality of our programs. If you are not satisfied with a program for any reason after attending the first program meeting, you may request a full refund, transfer, or credit. After the second program meeting you may request a pro-rated refund or credit. All refund requests must be made prior to the end date of the program. Refund requests for one-day programs must be made 24 hours in advance. Read program descriptions carefully as some program fees are non refundable. Supply fees are non refundable. Please allow 2 weeks for refund to process.
Instructors Wanted
Share your talent with the community. We are looking for innovative, talented, and proficient instructors. Contact your local recreation center or senior center for more information, and fill out an Instructor Class Proposal Form online.

The City of Garland Recreation Financial Assistance Program helps families and/or individuals with limited financial resources participate in City of Garland recreation programs and activities. Scholarships available to qualifying patrons. Funds are limited. To apply or for more information, please visit your nearest Garland recreation center.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
STARFISH (PARENT-TOT) Age: 9Mos - 3Yrs
SHARKS Age: 9 - 15Yrs
A familiar face, touch, and praise play a vital role in introducing babies to water adjustment, breath control, and enhancement of early developmental skills. Safety skills are an important part of this class. One parent per child required to participate in the water. Each class consists of 20 minutes in the water and 5 minutes dressing time before and after water time.
Jaws will drop! Instruction includes beginning through advanced skills. Beginners develop rhythmic breathing, learn safety skills, and receive instruction on basic strokes. Students advance at their own pace through strokes such as front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke while increasing endurance. Completion of all of the stations prepares you to swim for your lifetime!
CLOWNFISH (PRESCHOOL) Age: 3 - 4Yrs Play is the way little ones learn! This instruction lays the groundwork for introductory swim skills through songs, games, and toys that teach water adjustment, and beginning stroke movement. Learning basic water safety is an important part of this class.
STINGRAYS Age: 5 - 8Yrs Cool rays of summer! Attentive instruction guides students through fundamental swim elements, including controlled rhythmic breathing, floating, basic strokes such as front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke and essential safety skills, while progressing at each student’s own pace. Instruction encourages confidence in the water and a solid foundation for further stroke development.
ADAPTIVE Age: 6 - 15Yrs Splash into success! This class is designed for children with disabilities. Learn water safety and swimming techniques in a safe, self-paced environment. Instruction is given in a one-on-one class enabling the student to learn more efficiently. Please call 972-205-2708 to register.
ADULT SWIM LESSONS Age: 16Yrs and up It’s never too late to learn! Instruction focuses on your personal swimming goals. Choose fundamental techniques such as breath control, floating, and treading, or improve your favorite stroke. Work at your own pace, improve swim skills, and gain water confidence. Enjoy swimming at any age!
Wally the Whale and Sophie the Seal want you to stay safe in the water. Wally and Sophie will be at swim lessons with even more words of wisdom and safety tips throughout the summer.

SWIM STATIONS
• A signed waiver is required before participants are allowed in the water. • All participants are required to wear proper swim attire. Athletic wear is strictly prohibited. • Only participants and staff are allowed inside pool gates. • A parent is required to attend the first day of class for important class details. • Register by age. Swimmers progress through a 10 station instruction program at their own pace. • An additional $4 fee will be assessed for registration completed after Midnight on the Thursday before the session begins. Availability is not guaranteed. • Registration may be completed over the phone, in person at any Garland recreation center, or online at garlandparks.com. Pools are unable to accept any registrations. • When registering online, print a receipt and bring it to the first class. • Classes meet Monday through Thursday for two weeks. If there is a class cancellation by the Aquatics staff, a make-up time will be designated by the pool supervisor. • Class size is limited. Register early for a better chance at your preferred time. • A Parent Information packet is available upon registration. The packet contains class guidelines and procedures and can be found at garlandparks.com.

All drop in participants are required to purchase and scan a Participant ID Card when entering a City of Garland recreation center.
