MUSEUM REDESIGN

We have been thinking about how best to display our growing archives, with the many wonderful artifacts and photos gleamed from our past exhibits. We will discuss how to use our collection in the most attractive and efficient way to tell the story of the history of our township at the annual museum meeting on February 16th. Come and take part as we look forward to a new era of the Museum.

EXHIBIT

Our annual exhibit in December celebrated a special point in time for Ocean Township. “Ocean Township, the First 150 Years” featured the history of Ocean’s incorporation, in 1849, as it separated from Shrewsbury Township. This year a team of volunteers, headed by Exhibit Co-Chairs Peggy and Dallas Dellinger, researched local archives to write the history, and gather and prepare photos and artifacts, to reveal the events that surrounded our community’s establishment and development. As always, visitors were delighted to learn about the history of their neighborhoods. We thank Peggy, Dallas, and their team of volunteers: Eileen McCormack, Ginny Richmond, Rich Kurkjian, and Kay Zimmerer for a wonderful exhibit. We’ve met our two primary goals this year, the first being to promote an appreciation for local history – this year’s exhibit had the largest number of visitors; and the second, to raise money to continue our education and preservation – we made $300 over last year. Here are the results: Income $3,134.90 (Quilt $1448.00) Expenses $ 934.80 Profit $2,200.10 Thanks, also to Ann Hedinger and the Ocean Township Elementary Chorus, and The Central Jersey “N” Trak Model Train Club for adding to the enjoyment of our visitors, young and old. _________________________________________________________________________

QUILT NEWS

MEMBERSHIP

Thanks again to Marge Edelson and the Museum Quilters, who volunteer their time each week over the year, to create the beautiful 1998 quilt “ Stars and Stripes”. The sale of raffle tickets for this project provide the largest part of our exhibit income; and this year topped all previous sales. Betty Wilderotter aptly handles the raffle activities and her ideas have certainly contributed to the increased sales. Thanks Betty! The quilters are already looking forward to the new project and welcome new hands. If you are interested, call 531-2136 for details. _________________________________________________________________________ Our membership roll continues to grow, and we are encouraged by the interest in the Museum that comes with it. From the membership come the volunteers who serve as docents, researchers, quilters, and all that support our quilt raffle, thank you for all your support. Please, take this opportunity to send in your 1999 dues. Not sure if you have paid yet? Call Ginny Richmond at 531-4295.
