Marge Edelson has already been planning the Year 2000 quilt with her team of dedicated volunteers. The handmade quilt, as always, will be raffled off in December at the annual exhibit, and is the largest fundraiser for the museum. Thanks to all members and friends for their continuing support. Dallas Grove, Wanamassa, won the 1999 quilt.
EXHIBIT Our 1999 exhibit, “Happy Birthday Oakhurst School” proved to be another successful event, In terms of appreciation by those who viewed it, and in raising funds for our projects. Thanks to all who helped bring this exhibit to life. Several former students and teachers gathered at the Museum last fall and lent their mementos and documents and shared remembrances of their school days here. Many come on the exhibit days to greet visitors and meet with old friends. Peggy Dellinger, exhibit designer, did a wonderful job of recreating this era of education and village life. Many thanks to the Ocean Township Garden Club for their beautiful decorations for the playhouse and museum. Here are the financial results of the exhibit:
MUSEUM REDESIGN
Income Expenses Profit
$2,767.70 (Quilt $1394) $1,013.43 $1,754.27
We have almost completed the redesign, begun in 1999. Along with the fresh paint, the walls were organized into themes, photos resized and framed, and captions created to tell the story of Ocean Township’s history. Soon we will be acquiring cabinets, sorely needed to store documents and artifacts in the limited space we have.
Thank you, also to the Ocean Township Intermediate School Forensic Team under Mrs. Trudi Larkin for their wonderful performance at the Museum Exhibit opening on Friday night and The Central Jersey “N” Trak Model Train Club for adding to the enjoyment of our visitors, young and old.
