Dr. Maryam Alavi is announced as the new dean of Scheller College of Business, with her tenure starting July 1, 2014.

Georgia Tech Launches Joint M.S. in Analytics

Georgia Tech launched a one-year Master of Science in Analytics program, in partnership with Scheller College, the College of Engineering’s Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering, and the College of Computing’s School of Computational Science and Engineering.

Dean Alavi announced the new five-year Strategic Plan, which covers 2015 to 2020. It is her first Strategic Plan since becoming Dean of Scheller College.

The MBA dual degree option allows students to combine an M.S. or Ph.D. degree from the Georgia Tech Colleges of Engineering, Computing, Design, Liberal Arts, and Sciences.

Scheller Launches M.D./MBA Degree

Scheller College and Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) partnered to offer a five-year joint MD/MBA degree. It allows students to complete their first three years as medical students and then enter Scheller for a one year, three-semester MBA program prior to returning to MSM to complete their fourth year of medical studies.

Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, is the first guest of the Dean’s CEO Speaker Series, a series of panel discussions led by Dean Alavi with business leaders discussing relevant topics in business today.

Subsequent guests include Carol Tomé from UPS, Ted Decker from The Home Depot, Jimmy Etheredge from Accenture North America, Paul Brown from Inspire Brands, and more.

Scheller College was ranked in the top five business schools for placement rate within three months of graduation, according to Poets&Quants. With a rate of 97.2%, the Jones MBA Career Center placed third in the country.

The program was also ranked No. 8 among public institutions for the Compensation Index, which measures pay right after graduation, the percentage of students employed three months after graduation, percentage of class receiving a signing bonus, and more.

Maryam Alavi, dean of the Scheller College of Business, steps down on June 30, 2023 after nine years of dedicated service. She will continue at Scheller as a member of the faculty and will be appointed to the Elizabeth D. and Thomas M. Holder Chair in the College.

We are incredibly grateful to Dean Alavi for her service as dean to the Scheller College community and to the Institute as a whole,” said Provost Steve McLaughlin. “Her service has ensured Scheller College is a true force of excellence, scholarship, and leadership, and an engaged and diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. We are fortunate to have her continue as a member of the faculty.”
