The MBA International Practicum This practicum provides an exceptional experiential learning opportunity for Scheller’s top MBA students to build expand their business acumen, build practical hands-on experience, and interact with corporations in an international setting.

The program is an often referred to by Scheller graduates as “one of the most impactful experiences of my education” for the insight it provides through travel abroad, interaction with international companies on a global scale, and culture immersion and interaction with other countries.

Tech Square Innovation Ecosystem Internationally recognized, Technology “Tech” Square is a nexus of innovation and entrepreneurship for business and technology in the heart of Atlanta’s Midtown. As an anchor in Tech Square, Scheller College offers its MBA students an unparalleled opportunity to live, learn, and work in this high-tech business neighborhood. As a mixed-use innovation ecosystem comprising more than 1.4 million square feet with more than 100 startups and 22 corporate innovation centers, Tech Square is also home to over a dozen Fortune 500 corporations who chose to locate their innovation centers within Tech Square to access Georgia Tech talent and create value-added partnerships with the Institute. Tech Square is also home to Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute, Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), VentureLab, and CODA, a 21-story 645,000 square foot center for business innovation and institutional research. CODA houses Hive, a $5.3M supercomputer that enables data-driven discoveries in data science, computational astrophysics, biology, chemistry, and materials science.

Our MBA students come from engineering (chemical, mechanical, software), business (finance, accounting), and IT careers, bringing with them a wealth of real-world experience to this MBA practicum. All International Practicum projects are actual, real-life business issues each participating corporation is striving to better understand or resolve. Scheller students are carefully matched with each practicum project and engage their stellar academic knowledge, career experience, intelligence, and problem-solving capabilities to offer recommendations for resolving each corporation’s problem. Students are in regular contact with their corporate client to review goals, progress, and ensure corporate satisfaction with their work throughout the practicum project.

Corporate Involvement We value our MBA students’ talent and time and are dedicated to providing them and our corporate partners the absolute best practicum experience possible. We have found that companies who are enthusiastic, excited, and understand the value of working with our MBA students reap the most benefit from participating in our International Practicum. The corporation should be structured to provide a point person (contact) for the practicum project who can work with the students (especially in the initial phase) to determine project scope, define the corporation’s challenge/issue, and discuss expectations and deliverables. This person should also be available to answer questions and give guidance to the students as they develop the project. Estimated Corporate Value • 15 weeks of project work • Dedicated 4-person MBA team • 9 hours of work per week • $45/hour consulting rate • $6,075 per student, or $24,300 per team/project
