Welcome to Page Lake Powell Dear Members, The Chamber Page Lake Powell welcomes you to Page, AZ where we offer our visitors and residents a wide range of opportunities. Our Chamber has been serving our community since 1960. Whatever your interests are, The Chamber has a wide variety of choices for you. We are comprised of an 11 member Volunteer Board working year-round with monthly meetings serving our members. We are the hosts of most events in town including Santa’s Layover, Balloon Regatta Vendor Fair, 4th of July Parade and Vendor Fair, Annual Christmas Parade of lights just to name a few. We do sponsor a scholarship for Coconino Community College every year through our Santa’s Layover fundraiser held at Page Municipal Airport. Our goal is to serve our members by distributing their information to our residents and our visitors. We mail out relocation packets for newcomers to Page and to our large tourist population which visits us every year. On our website you will find everything you need to know about the chamber, our membership directory and the many tours we have available for booking. n behalf of the City Council, local businesses and residents, welcome to Page!
Located on the southern shores of magnificent Lake Powell, our community offers visitors both outstanding recreation and unparalleled beauty. Located at the center of Canyon Country, our area is home to Horseshoe Bend, Glen Canyon Dam, Tower Butte, the slot canyons, Lake Powell National Golf Course, and the Rim Trail. Although Page is known for our comfortable small town atmosphere, nearly three million people from around the world visit Page each year. Within these pages, you will discover a wealth of information that will help make your involvement in our business community a satisfying and lasting experience. As the Mayor, I strongly support our outstanding Chamber of Commerce. Through events, programs and services the Chamber of Commerce Board and staff are helping their members build beneficial and lasting business relationships. The City Council supports the Chamber and its continuing commitment to Page’s economic development. The City Council has set the course for a prosperous future through our investment in public safety and renewed commitment to maintaining and improving public infrastructure. City employees are dedicated to meeting the needs of its residents and business owners. Our community is blessed with the abundant natural beauty of our majestic red terrain, towering buttes, Lake Powell, and the Colorado River. In this setting, the arts and humanities are flourishing. We are proud of the Powell Museum, Lake Powell Concert Association, the Page Community Center and our award winning public library. Recreational opportunities abound as well. City parks offer a variety of activities, including picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, ball fields and playground equipment. Annual events include golf tournaments, mountain bike racing, rodeos, bass fishing tournaments, Native American dance performances, art shows, an amazing 4th of July fireworks display, and an annual Hot Air Balloon Regatta. I invite you to see firsthand all the amenities Page has to offer. Stroll around the City and enjoy delightful retail establishments, high-quality restaurants and free parking. PAGE POLICE: HIGHEST STANDARD OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
T
he goal of the Page Police Department is to provide the highest standard of service to the community. The Page Police Department is a progressive and professional agency. Our agency is comprised of 21 sworn law enforcement officers and 12 civilian employees who strive to fight crime in a proficient, proactive manner. Our officers are highly trained and are held to the highest degree of integrity and honesty. Their compassion shines brightly in their daily patrol work and community involvement. Along with our incredible staff, we collaborate with surrounding law enforcement agencies as partners to ensure the maximum level of service to the community. We have developed educational crime prevention programs with members of the community, for the members of our community.
The PPD Citizens Police Academy, a program designed to teach the functions of police operations, is one example of our department’s community dedication. Graduates of that academy have the opportunity to become members of the PPD Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) in which citizens provide direct assistance to the department with duties such as, traffic control during parades or special events. Volunteers are always welcome. Through innovative policing partnerships with our community, we are committed to keeping the City of Page a safe and wonderful place to live, work and visit. Community events throughout the year Fourth of July Celebration
The Chamber Page Lake Powell will once again host the annual Fourth of July activities. Fourth of July activities in Page kick-off with an annual parade in the morning. The parade route is down Lake Powell Boulevard. The City Park festivities, also sponsored by The Chamber, will commence after the parade and include carnival game booths, free games for children, fireworks for sale, air brush tattoos, cheesecake in a cone, Sonoran hot dogs, and, of course, the opportunity to cool off with a fire hydrant and the Page Fire Department. The City’s annual fireworks kickoff after sundown near the south side of the golf course.
Page Balloon Regatta
and artisans offering their wares to people in Page during the regatta. The Vendor Fair has a little something for everyone. You’ll find your favorite concessions from years past; as well as added new ones from Arizona and surrounding states. The Regatta Vendor Fair is on Friday and Saturday. It starts each day at 11 a.m. and goes until 10 p.m. There are about 100 booths with Concessionaires and Artisans providing that something special to remember from this exciting and colorful event. Festivities include a Beer Garden and an all-day daily Entertainment Schedule. The Vendor Fair features family activities with Inflatables and Kids Rides.
Lighted Christmas Parade
Hundreds of spectators lined Lake Powell Boulevard in December 2017, braving the chilly weather to view the Christmas Parade. It was the first Christmas parade that Page has had in several years and it was a great success on many levels, said Judy Franz, director for Chamber Page/Lake Powell, the organization that organized and promoted the parade. The parade featured 31 entries, one of which was a helicopter from Classic Aviation which came down the street last, hovering 50 feet off the ground the length of the parade route. An estimated 300 to 400 people lined the parade route.
Since 2003, the Page Lake Powell Balloon Regatta has become a world-class and citywide jewel of an event right in the heart of the fall season. The entire town comes alive when about 60 hot air balloon pilots pour into the area, ready to take to the heavens. Mid to late fall is also a meteorological high point for flying balloons in northern Arizona. Lulls in weather tend to accompany the highpressuresystemsthatmovethroughtheareaandcreateidealconditions for balloon flying. Mild breezes, high visibility and no precipitation make for smooth air sailing. And, of course, the spectacular views from thousands of feet up in the Santa’s Layover air are perhaps the biggest motivator. tudent success is the heart and purpose of Coconino Community College as shown by the fact that CCC is ranked among the top 50 community colleges in the U.S., according to education website, thebestschools.org, which cites factors such as learning outcomes and student support. CNN Money has ranked CCC as No. 25 in its listing of the best community college values. The College has served residents across 18,000 square miles of Coconino County since 1991 and helped create the region’s skilled workforce, which is improving overall health, safety and the economy in the region. The award-winning CCC2NAU program has become a state and national model for transitioning community college students to a four-year university. The program has served more than 1,700 students, compared to a starting cohort of 15 in 2008. The CCC2NAU program provides an innovative way to smooth a student’s path toward a bachelor’s degree with tailored advisement, institutional collaboration, including access to amenities at NAU like the Cline Library, recreation centers and housing. The college provides affordable tuition and a wide variety of certificates and degrees including career/technical programs with more than 60 certificate programs and two-year associate degrees in various fields including nursing, fire science, law enforcement and business. CCC reaches out to the more rural portions of the County
including Williams, the Grand Canyon, Page/Lake Powell, Fredonia, Tuba City and other remote areas on the Navajo, Hopi and Supai Tribal Lands with instructional sites that offer classes through online, in person and Interactive Television classes to meet the needs of students in these rural and remote areas. Nearly 25 percent of CCC’s student population comprises Native American learners and Community College Week says CCC is among the top colleges in the nation among Native American students earning associate degrees. When CCC first opened its doors, nearly 1,000 students enrolled at the Flagstaff campus in the first semester. Since then, the college has experienced an astounding growth rate and today serves more than 7,500 students per year with two campuses in Flagstaff.
