SEA SAN STRUCTURES + INTERFACE
* random stacking * wave breakers * Site - The marine drive promenade is located in one of the busiest areas of the city where citizens take in a breath of fresh air and view the daily sunsets. The site is sided by a busy road on one side and the large unending sea on the other. This acts as a fringe condition between land and sea. The sudden transition from sea to land is buffered by these existing tide breakers, designed to resist to high tide conditions also. Due to random placement and involuntary interlocking of these blocks, spaces form where very little water is accumulated and the space entirely becomes unusable.
PROCESS VISUAL REPRESENTATION STRUCTURE ON SIGHT OF THE PROPOSED
FINAL MODEL Concept - The basic function of a wave - breaker is to literally break the force of the wave and dissipate the water in different directions. They are also kept hollow near the sea face so that the water flows into them and accumulates within, breaking the force safeguarding the land from high tide.Our design involves a proposed module for a wave - breaker repeats itself in a particular manner forming an organized structure offering habitable spaces at different levels. Its experiential qualities includes light, sound and undulating surfaces. Programmatically it acts as a reading space and gallery for smaller and larger groups. This structure forms the physical link, blurring boundaries and bringing the mass from land to sea.

GROWTH AND FORM : EXHIBITION
* layering * overlap * deflection * framework * cladding *
This project deals with layering, which is derived from the study of growth of Stalactites. The growth is observed in different climatic conditions resulting in different types of forms. Even the factors like wind and pressure are taken into consideration. After the study, the concept of layering is taken forward. There is an attempt to create a space and explore the concept of layering in the third dimension. This is a space where in a person can walk through and experience layering in different ways. The heights also vary at different places within the space created allowing a person to feel the layers.
The framework was clad at places with plywood. A few parts were left unclad to create voids
A few parts of the model were suspended from the ceiling for feeling the continuity during the walkthrough.

Overlaps of surfaces to enhance the layering experience

STUDY TRIP : AHEMDABAD
* fortification * pols * new v/s old* character *
Ahemdabad, originally known as ‘Karnavati’ is built besides the river Sabarmati. Formally the old city was just a small halting station for trains passing by but started gaining more attention as the trade increased due to textile industry. the old city of Ahemdabad once had huge fortification walls with magnificent gateways. Within the walls. the city was divided into residential areas, markets and suares. The characteristic of Ahemdabad are the blocks or pols that divide the city.
PLAN OD OLD CITY OF AHMEDABAD
The overall character of the old city is dense with compactly packed houses. It gains porosity by virtue of courtyards within the houses and due to streets which also act as open spaces.
Three categories of streets exist which have a changing pattern of activities as the order of street changes.
Primary streets are the major links generated at city gates and leading to the central part of the city. Most of the commercial activities are concentrated on these streets.
A street, irrespective of size and type,is the key element.More than a mere route, it is a space and a focus of community activity.
Secondary streets also serve as links and commercial streets. But, here the commercial activity tends to become more specialized.
Short distances and irregular paths generate narrow, compact and highly textured streets. The circulation is also reduced to only pedestrians, thus the scale more relative to human scale.
