event insite Although Ar. Ninad Tipnis named this show as “Mother of all Showcases”, it was relatively a small show. But in terms of what it offered, it was truly a trend-setting and path-breaking show! It had a large design pavilion, Design Dialogue, where 15 of the country’s brilliant product designers displayed some exciting products. This was the first time that so many designers came together for display of their products under one roof! A large IIID Avenue depicting activities of all 26 Chapters/Centres of IIID could be seen. The School of Interior Design (SID) of CEPT University had also put up a huge pavilion to display work being carried out at their Design Innovation and Craft Resource Centre. Select stalls of exclusive products made out of copper, glass, stone, wood, steel and polymers were also put up. In a nutshell, the exhibition was truly a Celebration of Design!

IIID Avenue For the first time, all 26 Chapters/Centres of IIID participated in the specially conceived IIID Avenue. The Avenue, conceptualised and curated by Ar. Nitin Killawala, displayed photographs of works, events and Chapter activities. It grabbed the spotlight for designers, professionals, IIID members and visitors, who were all keen to know more about the Institute and its CSR activities.

First prize winning entry “Childhood in Mumbai”

Inaugurating ‘Mumbai Moments’: Pratap Jadhav, Bankim Dave, Nitin Killawala, Kamlesh Sheth, Kamal Khokhani

Maximum city has multiple facets and moods. Of these, three aspects – Mansions, Movements and Mumbaikars – were chosen as the theme for a photography competition launched in January by Akar Unlimited as a concurrent activity to IIID SHOWCASE 2012.

Second prize winning entry “Urban Clothing”

The contestants had to capture the architecture, urban pace and inhabitants of this multi-faceted city. Ms. Anuja Khokhani said: “The idea of organising this competition was to invite students of architecture and interior design college to express their ideas and perceptions about architecture and urban space and also people around.” Close to 110 entries were received for this competition. The Jury, comprising renowned architects and eminent photographers such as Nitin Killawala, Sudarshan Dheer, Dinesh Mehta and Israr Qureshi, evaluated the entries and selected the three prize winners. Mitul Kajaria (First Prize), Rajeev Malagi (Second Prize) and Gaurav Sardana (Third Prize) were named winners.
