The final heraldic device represents various trades, and their importance in developing community and a living for the people of Dundee. The brick wall, weave icon, ship mast and waves represent this.
I have paid homage to the City of Dundee’s current coat of arms by using a modern fleur-de-lis icon. The motto that sits on the shield: ‘in multitudine virtutis’, is latin for ‘strength in community’. Gavin Reid / Design Portfolio / 2015–16

Create and brand a craft gin distilled in Scotland. Give thought to the story behind the distillery and how that will influence the branding of the product and its advertising. — The Isle of Arran has three endemic Scottish trees, which are all part of a fascinating and uniquely Scottish tale of evolution and survival. Arran Whitebeam, Cutleaf Whitebeam & Catacol Whitebeam, all discovered in Glen Catacol.

The distillation process and packaging design utilise various elements of the Whitebeam trees: the berries, bark and leaves can be used in distillation while the bottle is wrapped with the fractal leaf pattern.
The unique ‘Isle of Arran + fractal’ marque. Gavin Reid / Design Portfolio / 2015–16
The bottle is held within a wooden case, handmade on the Isle of Arran. The packaging is handmade and laser etched, using wood from each of the Whitebeam trees, meaning each one is unique.
The initial advertisements focus on the packaging to create recognisability. There is great potential for design elements such as the fractal pattern and island outline to play a bigger part. Gavin Reid / Design Portfolio / 2015–16
Digital presence – online, tablet, mobile
The audience can engage with the brand through it’s interactive and informative website that works on web, mobile and tablet.

3. oxyMORA: screen print folio I enjoy the clever use of wordplay in design and everyday life. We encounter oxymorons every single day whether we realise them or not. The word itself is an oxymoron. Oxy means ‘sharp’ and moron means ‘dull’. I illustrated some of my favourites, using style, colour and negative space to highlight the stark contrasts.

4. Political Dynamite (ISTD) As well as founding The Nobel Prize, Alfred Nobel controversially invented dynamite. Political Dynamite shows the contrast between the literal and figurative definitions of dynamite by documenting a range of laureates whose award is steeped in political intrigue, both directly and indirectly. 5. Seven Days (D&AD) ‘Seven Days’ is a newsbrands campaign, across print & digital news channels. It is inspired by ‘Seven Days Without You/Love Makes One Weak’. The campaigns primary target is media agencies, who may not fully realise the role newsbrands play in advertising. ‘Without News’, ads can’t reach their full potential.

The multi-platform nature of newsbrands is a strong feature of the campaign, with each of the platforms complementing one another.
Consumers are directed to mobile via print and vice versa. Sponsored content is a prominent feature, with consideration made to the varying audience.
