LGBTQ+ LAS VEGAS NEWS LGBTQ+ Blood Donation Reform
In an exciting development for the LGBTQ+ community in Las Vegas, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has implemented groundbreaking changes to blood donation policies. The newly finalized guidelines eliminate discriminatory time-based deferrals and screening questions, ensuring a fair and inclusive approach.
The FDA emphasizes, “This policy eliminates time-based deferrals and screening questions specific to men who have sex with men (MSM) and women who have sex with MSM. Under the final guidance issued today, all prospective blood donors will answer a series of individual, risk-based questions to determine eligibility. All prospective donors who report having a new sexual partner, or more than one sexual partner in the past three months, and anal sex in the past three months, would be deferred to reduce the likelihood of donations by individuals with new or recent HIV infection who may be in the window period for detection of HIV by nucleic acid testing.”

As we celebrate this milestone, let us continue to advocate for comprehensive equality in all aspects of life. Together, we can foster an environment where every person, regardless of sexual orientation, is embraced and afforded the opportunity to make a positive impact.
With unity and hope, Las Vegas is leading the way towards a more equitable future, where the contributions of all community members are valued and celebrated.
