TO THE ANNUAL CHESTNUT ANGUS PRODUCTION SALE

I would like to welcome you all to the 2025 Chestnut Angus Annual Production Sale. What an amazing time to be in the cattle business, as the cattle market has been out of this world! Thank you friends, current, past, and new customers for taking the time to look through this year’s offering. We had an awesome 2024 growing season, as we were able to harvest an ample supply of hay, which was enjoyable knowing we could go into the winter months confident of our hay supply! We also celebrated the wedding of our son Wesly, and his wife Kayla this past summer! We are very Thankful and blessed to have Kayla become a part of this family, as she has been an incredible asset and addition to our operation!

I understand it gets said every year, but I am very proud of these bulls, and truly believe this is one of the most consistent set of bulls we are offering for your consideration. We were overwhelmed with the response to the cattle at this year’s National Western Stock Show, and we sincerely appreciate all of the positive feedback. We continue to strive to always be progressive, and produce the best product for our customers, and feel as though we have accomplished that again this year. I feel as though there are bulls and females in this offering for everybody. We focus on producing bulls that will add vigor and pounds to your calf crop, without sacrificing maternal traits including structural integrity and disposition. We also strive for added phenotype, so that you receive top dollar when selling your cattle, along with carcass merit to earn those premiums when sent to the rail. An important point, and something that people maybe don’t realize is that nearly the entire offering are natural calves raised by their dam. We are very proud that our cow herd has been able to generate the set of cattle we are offering this year. The set of females we are offering come from the heart of our program. I am confident they will go home and be nothing but profitable. We focus on several important genetic and physical characteristics in our cattle highlighted by foot and udder quality, along with docility, which has brought us to where we are today. If they don’t meet those requirements, they do not last long here. I mention it often, because I believe it is important that in order to make our cattle better, and the industry better, these traits need to be very important regardless if you are a purebred, or commercial cattleman. I am confident this set of bulls will inject many of these important traits into your calf crop to take your operation to the next level.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support and interest in our program. We are proud of this set of cattle, excited for their future, and excited as the next generation is hitting the ground now. I would like to thank my family for everything they do, to keep this operation running like a well oiled machine. We all have different roles within this operation, and it takes all of us to make sure everything gets accomplished. Thank you to my friends, customers, and all of the supporters of Chestnut Angus. We all know it takes a lot of people at different times of the year to make everything happen, and your help and continued support is greatly appreciated. Similar to last year, the cattle market has been good for everyone! It is time to trade in those older herd bulls for a new and fresh set of genetics to add value to your operation. When you consider the value of feeder cattle in the marketplace being sold by the pound, the added value of a performance driven bull justifies the initial expense of that bull, and as a result add more pounds to your calf crop, which results in more dollars in your pocket. These young herd sires provide a tremendous return on investment in today’s cattle market which ultimately is the bottom line in the cattle business. We encourage anyone and everyone to stop by the farm anytime to check out this year’s offering. Please reach out with any questions you may have. Thank you again for your consideration, and we hope to see you on Sunday, February 23rd at the farm.

ALL REGISTERED ANGUS BULLS HAVE BEEN GENOMIC TESTED THROUGH ANGUS GS, AS WELL AS PARENT VERIFIED AND TESTED FOR ALL NECESSARY GENETIC DEFECTS!

VIEW & BID ON DV AUCTION

DEAR CATTLEMEN & WOMEN,

It will be our pleasure to welcome you to Pipestone on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd for an afternoon of fellowship and elite Angus seedstock. The Chestnut Angus family is built upon some of the most driven people in the business, and is a world class program that has been developed from generations of focusing on maximizing the success and profits of anyone that invests in a breeding piece. The men of the Johnson family are cattleman that don’t source the funds elsewhere to back a hobby in the cattle business, or just enjoy ranching on the weekends when it’s convenient, but are a family operation that realizes the importance of caring for the land, developing their breeding program and battles with the day to day hardships of raising crops and livestock in an ever changing environment and market. What you see today as the CN brand has been built solely through a dedication to performance Angus seedstock and fulfilling the needs of a growing customer base.

It goes without saying, the beef business is witnessing and is forecasted to see record times. Never before has the producer been on the receiving end of such a significant payday, and the return on investment in growth genetics been so valuable. Each and every added pound that can be gained as a result of genetic heterosis will be passive profit passed along into the hands of the ranchman. With that in mind, we are proud to welcome you to the most impressive set of high performance, big growth orientated herd bull prospects that Chestnut Angus has ever marketed. As you read through the offering, take note of the impressive growth projections that the class of 2025 carries with them. You will find that well over 50% of the bulls cataloged rank among the top third or better of the registry for both weaning weight and yearling weight figures, so regardless of how you may like them on the videos, or in the sale pens, there is a high probability that you are setting your program up for added pay weight and profitability with the selection of any bull in the offering.

You too will notice the addition of several new sire groups being added to the roster, they can be held accountable for this program’s push towards the leading edge of the Angus breeds growth parameters. They have lived up to expectations, and have potently injected massive amounts of performance in the first generation, all while having proven to uphold the generations of longevity, hardiness and structural design that has been bred into the bottom side of the equation. We are excited to showcase this offering, they truly are right for the times, and the kind that is going to add value to multiple facets of a cowman’s operation, first off with added pay weight and then in the long term with a sensational set of replacement females turned long term matrons.

The 2025 crop of bulls outshine previous groups from the perspective of combination cattle that excel not just on foot but through every method of evolution. Chestnut is truly molding the program, and the stock towards the ‘Angus cattle that combine banner-winning phenotype with breed-leading genomics’ motto that is in place. The bulls that are cataloged in the latter pages of this sale book represent not just this past year’s accomplishments, but generations of meticulous selection, miles of genetic research, dollars of investment, hours of management and lives of dedication. There are potentially industry leading herd sires that will sell in this 2025 edition of the Chestnut Angus Bull Sale, but this is a program that you can tie to with confidence in knowing that the best is yet to come. Even with the successes and accolades this program has already gathered, it may still be in its infancy as the drivers of the future are as eager, talented and motivated about the Angus business as you will find.

Please feel free to reach out to any member of the Innovation AgMarketing team, or the Chestnut crew with any questions or queries any time leading up to SUNDAY FEBRUARY 23rd.

• We believe this is the KR Storm 900 son that we have always been waiting for! Truly one of the heaviest muscled, long spined, thick topped bulls we have raised to this point. Chestnut Storm 554 is packed full of roar power and red meat. He too has excelled from a growth perspective, packing on pounds and showing impressive growth from the onset.

• Chestnut Storm 554 comes with an impressive pedigree to match his phenotype. He is both a full brother to the $11,000, Chestnut Storm 913 that sold last year to Cody Montgomery and is a maternal brother to the high selling feature from our 2021 sale, and member of the Champion Pen of 3 at the 2021 Cattleman’s Congress, Chestnut United. These two studs have both matured into some of the most impressive mature bulls you could lay your eyes on. In the breeding pasture Chestnut United has obviously proven himself with sons, and sons of daughters highlighting the past several editions of this sale.

• With predictions for growth and the backing of generations of cow power, this is an opportunity add profit straight back into your pocket.

• Chestnut Connect 1124 is the impressively powerful, February born son of the $18,500, Chestnut Connect 32 that sold in the 2023 Bull Sale to Gana Farms. Connect 32 is a calving ease son of Chestnut United that charted some impressive growth pre and post weaning time. A trait it seems he has passed along to this son!

• We love the design of this powerful beast, being extra square and wide at the ground, big footed, wide backed, bold middled and still eye appealing, the kind we set our phenotypic goals around. He recorded a 106 WWR coming off his second calving dam.

• His dam Chestnut Heather 15 is quickly building an impressive resume, with her only two sons born to date, both making the trip to the NWSS! Another generation back reveals the Chestnut Heather 759 female that was a performance standout of her class, recording a 120 WWR!

• A three-quarter brother to Connect 1124, was the $21,000 selection of Kent & Sonia Aasby and Steve Thomas in the 2024 Bull Sale.

• We begin the sons of Musgrave Jumbo with one of the most impressive individuals we have bred in program history, and out of a young female that has stood up to the massive expectations set by her family name.

• The combination of EPD traits that this stud carries are ultraimpressive, and seldomly would you find a bull that is so impressive about their calving ease and birthweight figures that can remain so dominant about their huge growth predictions! This is a herdsire that is genetically designed to further the business towards profitability!

• This claim is also proven by the impressive set of profitability indexes that he sports, ranking top 20% for $AxH, $ AxJ, and $M, top 15% $B, top 10% $C, top 4% $F and top 3% $W.

• These curve bending trends are reflected in his real-world figures, going from his 73lbs. birthweight to an impressive, 113 WWR that was the result of bringing almost 900lbs. to the weaning pen.

• More impressive is the fact that this genomic standout is also built with shape and power, so not only does he read impressive, but he has a phenotype to suffice the strictest checklists when on the search to find a herd builder!

CHESTNUT JUMBO

• We couldn’t be more impressed with the real-world performance bulls that Musgrave Jumbo has sired in this 2024 born crop of herd bulls. Not only have they grown impressively post weaning, but they came easily and have impressed with every stage of maturity.

• We admire the functional build, powerful muscle type and fleshing ability of these Jumbo sons. We think that they will sire the easy keeping type that suits a wide range of environments and management situations.

• Chestnut Prolific 844 is the perfect combination of style and stoutness. He is long sided, cool necked and has the big flexible running gear that will allow him to have a long and comfortable breeding tenure. The added eye appeal and soundness of build allowed for 844 to make plenty of friends in the yards of Denver this year. But don’t take his good looks as the only point of conversation on this leadoff Prolific son.

• His genomic tabulations suit the trends that the “Business Breed” is set for! Not only is his combination of growth impressive, but he sports an elitist top 1% $M, an index that predicts profitability of a sire in a program where replacement females that are retained in herd and the remainder of the cull females and all male progeny are sold as feeder cattle. Additionally he ranks top 1% for Claw and top 2% for Angle, a pair of traits that are becoming necessary to pay serious attention to.

• His dam, CN DJ Annie Oakley 565 has been a strong force in the breeding pasture for approaching a decade now. • The Kramers Enforce 5006 daughter that raised both Perfect Timing 43 and Craftsman 54 is a testament to the maternal prowess her sire group is renowned for.

While he doesn’t hit the extremes on either end of the growth or calving ease spectrum, he excels positively for growth and performance. And trends ideally with his low ratioing 76lbs. birthweight and high ratioing, 835lbs. when coming to the weaning pen.

• Sometimes for long-term sustainability, sticking to a more wholistic approach to EPD selection results in the most efficient way to reach goals. • Chasing back through the maternal linage will reveal the CN Queen Herself 042 matron that would be one of the most potent maternal sources in Chestnut Angus history.

• A similar story can be written about this next son of Connealy Craftsman, as he too sits in the top 10% of the breed for WW and top 15% for YW, along with a wide swath of traits that sit in the top 20% of the registry.

• Who says that performance cattle can’t be good looking and athletic! This is an ultra-good looking Connealy Craftsman son that has caught our attention at every stage of development.

• He trends ideally in the raw data, recording a below average BW of 74lbs. and then came heavy and well above average with his 861lbs. weaning weight that scored him a 109 WWR.

• Check out his very impressive, top 1% ranking $M index and top 2% Milk trait.

CHESTNUT CRAFTSMAN 324

• Chestnut Craftsman 324 would certainly be one of the most appropriate calving ease options when sorting through the Connealy Craftsman sons. He ranks in the top 10% for both CE and BW traits and top 5% for CEM. His top 4% $EN and top 2% $M are just caveats to the impressive phenotype he supplies.

• Even though he came extra light an unassisted, he still recorded a 101 WWR coming off his Freys Cowboy Logic sired dam.

• More pounds, and more power will come from the implementation of Chestnut Craftsman 334 into the bull battery.

• This husky fella came with over 800lbs. to the weaning pen, and is maturing with added length, muscle shape and power than his classmates.

• The Connealy Craftsman sired cattle are consistently heavy! Lot 38 weaned off his dam to record an impressive 827lbs that translates to a 105 WWR. In fact this brings his second calving dams WWR average to a 111. He continues on an upward trajectory of growth and will be one that’s easy to find and be impressed with on sale day. The maternal brother to Chestnut Craftsman 394 that sold last year went to Cal Swedzinski for $9,000.

• He stems back to the Conley Queedy 535 donor dam that has a long list of productive daughters in the cowherd, they are plain and simple high-quality stock!

• A very balanced trait ledger accompanies Chestnut Craftsman 504. He offers a top 10% BW figure, along with very acceptable growth predictions, and a top 10% Milk figure.

• His raw performance data is impressive, going from a 71lbs. BW that ratioed an 87 and then flipping to well above average at weaning time with his 832lbs. to ratio a 106. • This is

Sitz

• The Connealy Craftsman influence is strong this offering, with 16 sons that will go under the hammer on February 23rd. You can make some decisions about the amount of roar performance or the amount of calving ease that you would like, but what is most impressive about the sire group is their consistent quality of structure, maturity pattern and look of longevity.

• We don’t think you can go wrong with the Craftsman sons, as they look to consistently offer the ability to increase profitability to a ranchman’s cowherd.

CHESTNUT HAUS 574

• Chestnut Haus 574 is an ideal blend of performance, carcass, and power with that is going to add growth in an automatic fashion! This bull is a true standout from a phenotype standpoint, and offers a look of quality that no scientific calculation could translate.

• The sons of the $50,000 Chestnut Haus 231 are bound to impress, as he passed along his large frame, long spine and impressive growth potential to each of these sons.

• Lot 45 stems from a line of maternal excellence, his first calving dam, Chestnut Daisey Beauty 114 is a standout of her class and looks to be set for an exceptional production career after starting out with this heavy weaning stud. He came to the pen with 843lbs of weaning weight, and hasn’t taken his foot off the gas, even making the cut to take a trip to the NWSS.

CHESTNUT HAUS 564

• The Chestnut Haus 231 progeny are here, and they match up with the same explosive shape and power that made their sire such an in demand piece of property in the 2022 Bull Sale.

• This dense bodied creature comes loaded for bear with all the substance and beef business one can ask for and recorded a massive, 923lbs weaning weight to score a 117 WWR coming off his second calving dam. Potent growth genetics at their finest here!

CHESTNUT HAUS 644

• Chestnut Haus 644 is massive in dimension, packed with a rounder muscle type and explosive stifle shape. If you’re needing to power up the cowherd then pay attention when lot 47 goes under the hammer. Yet something else to keep in mind is that he comes with the most ideal birthweight figures of the sire group.

• He goes back to the Chestnut Monica 641 female that highlighted the 2022 Mature Cow Sale, selling to 5N Farms of Nebraska and still has several daughters working in Pipestone at the cutting edge of the cowherd.

CHESTNUT HAUS 824

• Here is a product of the

we offer from year to year.

• Chestnut Haus 824 has

CHESTNUT SAFE & SOUND 174

• Just a single representative of the HF Safe & Sound 019 sire group for this 2025 Bull Sale, but we wish that wasn’t the case, as Chestnut Safe & Sound 174 is sure to get sale day visitors stirring, just like he did as a member of the Champion Carload at the NWSS.

• Chestnut Safe & Sound 174 is a surefire calving ease option! His incredible +11 CED number ranks him among the most elite 15% of the breed.

• Yet there is no need to sacrifice growth and payweight in your search for a sleep all night heifer bull candidate when the opportunity to purchase lot 50 is up for grabs! As he flips the scale positively towards a 90 WW figure and 127 YW figure that rank top 5% and 10% respectively. While you are looking into his genomics, pay attention to the 8 profitability indexes that rank him in the top 25% of the breed.

• He came small and unassisted at a mere 69lbs. And then exploded to wean off his first calving mother with a 113 WWR with an 889lbs. weaning weight. He made the trip to Denver and impressed onlookers with the unexpected shape and width you wouldn’t typically find in a bull with such calving ease predictions.

• We believe the added look, feature and later maturing growth trend of this Safe & Sound son make him a sire prospect that is worth promotion, and with the maternal power of the Fannie family in support, the female retention of this stunner we think will be high!

• A trio of flush brothers from the influential, Chestnut Queen Eva 8104 donor that has been a center point of genetic advancement for us over the past couple of years. She is best known as the dam of the $88,000 Chestnut Queen Eva 133 that was purchased by Moore Land & Cattle in the 2023 Female Sale, and the Chestnut Point Taken 180 herd bull that works for Nordlund Stock Farm.

• These brothers excel both in the flesh and on the paper for growth and performance. You will notice the impressive set of weaning weights they all turned in, and both lot 51 & 52 have grown with over 4lbs. of growth per day through weaning. There has been no slowing down on this trend either and that will be evident when you see them in the flesh on sale day.

• They are elite about their genomic predictions for growth promotion, all sitting top 10% or better for WW & YW. The profitability indexes of the trio also read very positively for $M and $W, meaning that they offer impressive opportunities to ranchers that sell off the cow, or may even retain some replacement females.

• The Long Teton 107 sired cattle born in Pipestone have proved that there is no need to doubt the growth and performance that comes with his influence! Chestnut Teton 224 leads of a strong set of paternal brothers that are built with performance in mind. Interestingly every single one of the twelve Teton 107 sons in the sale records a WWR of over 100 and actually average a 105 WWR, and this is without including the three ET brothers, that would only bolster this number. There is not more damning proof than that of reliable data.

• Chestnut Teton 224 floats to the top of his sire group because of his combination of impressive phenotype, and fool proof genomic dataset. He is rugged in his structural build, burly in his body composition and impressive from a performance standpoint.

• He recorded a 116 WWR at over 900lbs. and sits top 20% or better for all 8 $ values.

• A maternal brother to the lead off Chestnut United son to sell in the 2023 Bull Sale, Chestnut United 52 that sold to Swedzinski Angus of Taunton, MN. Their young dam is building a reputation for returning to the weaning pen with the goods, as Chestnut Teton 284 came in with a hefty 844lbs.
