Have you visited a business or any other place in Alaska that intrigues you, either because it is inspiring or because it falls short of what it could be? Help it become a better version of itself by adding Information, Ratings, Concerns, or Actions.

Information We can’t make informed decisions without knowing the facts. Information is a place for hard-to-find facts about matters of importance. Sharing Information does not have to be adversarial. Information is a step in helpful collaboration towards building a better place. Ratings Ratings is a place to think about the way this place succeeds in the full range of Implications of what it does. It is not meant for judging according to conventional standards, such as how it satisfies the desires of the customer. For that, go to Yelp or Tripadvisor! Concerns Concerns is a way to arrive at a Vision for a deeper place, one that addresses real, underlying needs and contributes to a better world. High rated Concerns can be turned into Requests by Coordinators. Action Approach any stakeholder in the place (owner, manager, staff, customer) with a gentle and thoughtful yet direct approach. Collaborative, Provocative Actions can be scheduled to achieve a critical mass, and are publicized in VisionaryNews.


How to find the meaning Every business has an immediate and a deeper meaning. The standard measures (such as price, cleanliness and amenities) are of secondary importance. Use conventional review sites to report on those. We need another measure for what is essential. The deeper level includes original causes, indirect effects, and personal motivations. Purpose What is the overall goal and underlying purpose? Is it just to make money? Does the place consider the needs of all stakeholders—employees, community, suppliers, consumers, and the environment, as well as stockholders? Value What is the value of the product or service? Does it appeal to desire, lust, fear, envy, or violence? Does it create artificial needs? Or does it serve the common good, and improve quality of life? Practices Is it human-scale? Are interactions personal and human? Does it depend on irrational or manipulative advertising? Are fulfilling, meaningful jobs available? Justice Are prices affordable or reasonable? Are workers paid fairly? Are producers paid fairly? Are profits distributed fairly? Are they used (at least partly)for the common good? Impact What is the effect on the well-being of customers? Does it foster meaningful relationships? Does it support local artists, businesses, or organizations? Does it promote local purchasing? Does it protect the environment and natural resources, at any stage including origin, transport, and locally?
