INTRODUCTION Welcome to YourServiceSpot.com and thanks for requesting this guide. I hope that you find it useful and more importantly take action with what you read in this report. I have been involved in the web marketing business since 1996. I used to build websites for business clients and then would help them to get on the first page of Yahoo (the biggest search engine at the time) and then of course the beast that is known as Google came along and everything changed. More on that in a moment. Until recently, I was the joint owner of an SEO consulting company in the UK and we were doing very, very well. Unfortunately I have had to reduce my commitment to the company as my wife (who is from Mongolia) got very sick and we had to return to her homeland so that she could get all the necessary care that she needed. As a result of this I decided that I had a lot of very valuable SEO knowledge to share with people and could offer top quality SEO and Web Marketing services for very competitive prices via the Internet. So YourServiceSpot.com was born and my team of service specialists and I are here to deliver the best results to you. All of the services that we offer have SEO in mind as well as driving more traffic to your site. In this guide I will show you the very best ways to get your site a high ranking in Google. Recent changes have made it even more difficult now to rank a website in Google. Every so often Google changes the way it ranks sites (using something called an algorithm) and the last change, which was called the Panda update, penalized sites that had thin or copied content. This hit a lot of sites very hard including some long established ones. This SEO guide takes the Panda effect into account. I will be frequently updating the guide and will let you know via email when it has changed and provide a download link for you. OK let's get on with it shall we? Sincerely

Graham Bowall Owner of YourServiceSpot.com

PART ONE HOW SEARCH ENGINES WORK The first thing to remember is that all search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask and all the others are just machines. They are pretty advanced but they certainly have nowhere near the mental capacity of you and I. This means that they have to follow sets of rules to keep track of every page on the Internet. The next thing to realize is that there are literally billions of pages on the Internet and millions more are joining them each passing day. Now the search engine's job in life is to catalog all of these pages (known as indexing) and then rank them so that when somebody searches for something using their chosen keyword(s) such as “dog training” then the best dog training pages will appear. Search engines use robots which are sometimes known as spiders or crawlers to index pages. When the spider comes to visit your page it will crawl all over it and notice your text, page title, the age of your site, the amount of content that is on your page, whether that content is duplicated elsewhere, whether you have any links on the page and where they point to, whether you have pictures (or images) or video on the page and lots more. When you first create a website you have to get it indexed in the search engines. The same applies to a new page that you have written as well. When you consider that Google has had to index billions of sites and individual pages in its relatively short life and is faced with the prospect of millions of new pages appearing every day of the week it can be a pretty slow process getting your site and pages indexed. We can help Google and the others find our sites and pages very quickly and I will go over that in more detail in part three. But for now just be aware that if your pages are not indexed then there is no way in the world that they can rank. The way search engines rank pages is by examining each page to see whether it meets the criteria that the searcher has entered. It doesn't have much to go on – only those two words “dog training”. So it will scan every page in its dog section for those words and then once it has found all those relevant pages it will rank them according to their authority. It works a bit like your local library where you would ask the librarian for books on dog training and they would give you directions to the place where these books reside. You would then rank them on their authority (usefulness to you). How does a search engine determine web page authority? Well it is not human so it cannot read the words on a site but it can identify some factors that it will consider very relevant. For example, if you have a website on dog training then it is vitally important that you include the words “dog training” a few times in your text. Also it needs to appear in your page title and description – more of this in part two. Modern search engines also take other factors into account such as any related keywords that may appear on your page and also the popularity of your site on the Internet. How do they measure popularity? Well they do this by counting the number of links to your site that they find 7

on external web sites. Each one of these links from an external site is considered as a vote for your site and in general the more votes that you have the higher your site will rise in the rankings. These external links are also known as Backlinks. Now there are many other authority factors that Google and the others take into account. One of the most important is the age of your site. Unfortunately, Google (more than the others) treat new web sites with the ultimate suspicion. This is because in the past many people have tried to “game the search engines by spamming them and in virtually all of these cases the sites were new (less than 3 months old). So if you have a new site you have to take an entirely different approach to SEO than if you have an older site. For example, it is easy to get lots of votes (backlinks) for your site very quickly and this will get flagged by Google as being totally unnatural. If this is discovered you could find that your site disappears from the rankings without trace and you will have to do a lot of repair work over the coming months to get it back again! I have the scars from doing this! Another authority factor is Google's own measure of a web page's relevance and usefulness which it calls Page Rank. This was named after one of the founders, Larry Page, and is Google's measure of your page from 0 – 10. There is also a NA ranking which normally means that Google cannot make its mind up about your page. Every new web page that you will create will have a Page Rank of 0 and really credible and authoritative sites will have higher ranks. Google.com is a Page Rank 10 (now there is a surprise) and Adobe.com (creators of the PDF format and Adobe Reader that you are using to read this) is a Page Rank 9. This weighting is given to ALL pages so as you can imagine there are only a handful of 10's a few 9's hundreds of 8's all the way down to billions of 0's. Now some SEO experts will tell you that Page Rank is the be all and end all when it comes to ranking in the search engines but I can tell you that it isn't. I have ranked many Page Rank 0 pages on the first page of Google above sites that have higher Page Rank so it is a factor but not the only one to consider. The other important ranking factor is site authority. This is not the same as Page Rank but it is normally related. If your web site has authority in Google's eyes then any new content (pages) that are created on this site will get indexed very quickly. If the site is brand new it has no authority. Authority is measured by the number of backlinks to the site, good quality content and the numbers of visitors and your social network reach. I will cover social networks later but if your site is being mentioned on sites like Facebook and Twitter then you are on the path to good rankings. Sites that have government or educational status are also deemed as high authority by Google. This is because the domain names for these sites are not available commercially and the mere fact that they are government department or educational sites gives them instant authority. So sites that have the .gov or .edu extensions are what we are talking about.

8

There are said to be over 200 ranking factors in Google's algorithm but we are just going to concentrate on what are considered to be the most important. In order of importance they are:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Backlinks Site Age Site Page Rank Site Authority Keyword optimization (also known as on page optimization)

OK now that you have a good overview of how search engines work and rank sites it's time to look at Keyword Research.....

9

PART TWO KEYWORD RESEARCH When you first decide to create a web site for your business then you will obviously have a theme in mind. What I mean by this is if you have a dental surgery in New York there would be little point putting up a site selling car spares. Now you might think that this is obvious and I guess that was a stupid example but the whole point of having a web site is to get it in front of the people that want what you have to offer. But here is a sad fact:

THE MAJORITY OF BUSINESS WEBSITES ARE NEVER SEEN BY THEIR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS

This is normally due to these factors:

The site is not keyword optimized There is little or no SEO going on Google only gives you 10 chances to impress (being on any other page than the first is pretty useless)

So let's look at the first one – keyword optimization. When people search for stuff online they use what is known as keywords. These are the words they type into Google to try and find what they want. Now if you have a dental surgery called “Bracklingtons Dentists” and you are based in New York, how many people do you think will search for you using Bracklingtons Dentists? Well you won't need two hands to count them that’s for sure! You see unless they know about your dental surgery then they are far more likely to search for something like “dentist New York” or “dentist NYC”. This applies to all types of businesses in all areas of the world so why is it then that business owners use their name all over their websites but rarely use the keywords that people will actually be looking for? The answer is simple:

THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF KEYWORD RESEARCH AND OPTIMIZATION

10

Now this is very good news for you as you will fully understand this by the time you have finished reading this guide. And by applying the techniques that we recommend here you will be able to leave the majority of these people in the dust! So how do we know which keywords people are using to find what we are offering? Simple we just...

ASK GOOGLE!

The very nice people at Google have provided a free online keyword tool that will tell us what keywords people are using and approximately how many people are using those terms each month. This is an incredibly valuable asset to have and you must use it. But before you do you must use your most valuable asset of all first...

YOUR BRAIN!

The tool will only help you if you first think about what kind of words people will use to find what you are offering so for our dentist example this could be:

dentist New York dentist NYC dentist Manhattan dentist in New York

Now here is something important. Singles and plurals are treated differently by Google so “dentist New York” is definitely not the same as “dentist in New York”. Here is the screenshot for Dentist New York…

11

And here is the screenshot for Dentist In New York‌

12

Now I could have actually picked a better example with this because normally the results are very different. However you can see although the top two listings are the same the third site is different in each case. OK now you know that singles and plurals are different lets head over to the Google Keyword Tool. The address is:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Now by default the tool is set up to give results for the United States and in English. If you want to research another country's data then you can just change it:

13

Just click on “Advanced Options and Filters and choose the country and the language that you want...

When you are set with your country options you need to enter in the first keyword (don't forget to enter the CAPTCH code properly as well)...

14

Now you can see I entered “dentist New York. Just hit the Search button and the tool will start working... this is what we get returned...

15

Now if you are looking for local results like this example (New York) then you are interested in the Local Monthly Searches primarily. So dentist New York has over 18,000 searches a month eh? Wow! Well not quite. We need to refine our search because we are using broad match which will give us all kinds of spurious results. Let me explain the difference between Broad, Phrase and Exact Match:

Broad – New Dentist in York or Dentist in York tries New approach Phrase – New York Dentist Broke My Teeth! Exact – New York Dentist So broad match is not that great then is it? There will be a lot of nonsense in there that we don't want. Phrase is better but still could contain a lot of crap. OK let’s go for exact and see where we really stand... 16

What happened? It went from over 18,000 to just 1,000!!! Well basically the tool cleared out all the crap. This is the approximate number of searchers per month. Now if you are a dentist in New York and you could capture some of those searchers and turn them into customers then I think you would be pretty happy right? What you may also have noticed is that there are lots of other keywords that appear below our initial choice. Dentist New York City, dentist in New York, best dentists New York and so on. Now you can target these keywords as well. I hope that I have got you excited here. What we need to do now is save this research data so that we can refer to it afterwards. To do that you just click the Download button, select ALL and then this screen will appear:

17

Then just click OK...

18

And the spreadsheet file will be downloaded to your computer with all the keyword research in it. Now if you don't have Microsoft Excel then don't worry as you can download Open Office which is absolutely free and will do most of what Excel can do. Get Open Office here: http://www.openoffice.org/ OK that's it. You just rinse and repeat using different keyword ideas and then save them. Now we are going to look at just how difficult it would be to rank on the first page of Google for our chosen keyword terms. Because it's all about GETTING IN FRONT OF THE TRAFFIC!

We offer a professional keyword research service where we use the most accurate search data and competition analysis to supply you with a totally professional report for first page domination. Check it out here:

2.1 Keyword Competition

If only it was as simple as choosing a few good keywords, slinging up a site and ranking on the first page of Google!! Well I have news for you – a few other people have thought of that and have a head start on you. Does that mean you can never get there? Certainly not! You need to make some smart moves to climb above those in front of you that's all. Now I will be sharing these moves with you later on but the purpose of this part of the guide is for you to make an informed decision about whether a keyword is worth pursuing with regards to the competition. Do you remember all the stuff we covered in the first section about ranking factors such as Page Rank and backlinks? Of course you do. Well this is where we will examine those factors more carefully. Now I put backlinks at the top of the list of ranking factors and there is a good reason for that – it's true! You can climb above sites with Page Rank, domain age (old domains), government and educational sites and so on if you have good backlinks. Analyzing keyword competition is a complex issue but I want to make things as easy as possible for you so I am going to introduce you to a secret tool that I use when I am analyzing competition. It's called Traffic Travis and you can download it for free here:

http://www.traffictravis.com/

Just download the free version.

Now once you have downloaded Traffic Travis and installed it and opened it you will see a screen like this:

20

Now if yours looks slightly different to this don't worry. I have the professional version. All that is important here is how to use it for your keyword. OK let's get started. Click on Analyze keyword directly below SEO Analysis:

21

OK you will now get a screen that looks like this...

22

Now just enter your keyword in the “Phrase to Analyze” box like this...

23

Now just like the Google Keyword Tool you can select different countries for your results and you can also choose from the top 10 results or top 20 results. I am going to keep it to United States and change to 10 results as that is all I am interested in and it takes less time to process too!!

Once you have chosen the right options click the Analyze button. Once it has finished it will give you a screen like this....

24

You can see that it has listed the top ten sites as they appear in Google. The important information is to the right so I will explain each column: PR – Stands for the Page Rank of the page listed. So in this example the first page has a Page Rank of 4, the second 3 and so on. Age – This is pretty self explanatory. It is the age of the web site. The top site is 5 years old and sites 8 and 9 are 14 years old! The good news is that there are two sites that are less than a year old at positions 5 and 6. BL – This means the number of backlinks to the particular page listed and not to the entire site. This is the most important indicator of them all. You can see that the first page has 459 backlinks but the page in 6th position only has one!

25

BLS – This stands for Backlinks To Site. Now I need to explain this more fully as you may be confused. A site is the Top Level Domain (TLD) which as an example could be www.yoursite.com. A page can also be the TLD or a separate page such as www.yoursite.com/dentist-new-york. Do you see the difference here? Well BLS is the total number of backlinks to ALL the pages in your site. It's not all that important in my opinion. The BL count is far more critical. You can see that result number 6 has 1 backlink to the page listed and 59 backlinks to all of its pages. TBL – Is a count of the number of backlinks the page has from government or educational sites (.gov and .edu). These are very powerful links. DMOZ – This refers to the Internet's largest human edited directory – Dmoz.org. Because sites that appear in Dmoz are human edited, Google sees this as a major vote for the site. Now it can take years to get a site into Dmoz and they are very short of editors so good luck if you want to submit your site! YAHD – This checks to see if the site is in the Yahoo Directory. Yahoo is a very high authority site in Google's opinion and the Yahoo Directory is the oldest directory on the Internet. Again it is human edited and it costs $299 to submit your site and if they don't like it they will keep your money and reject you! Title – This means that the keyword you are trying to rank for e.g. dentist New York, is in the title of your page. This is known as an on page factor and I will cover this in detail in part four. Desc – This is another very important on page factor and it is checking whether your keyword is in your page description. More in part four. H1 Tag – Again an on page factor. This is basically a header on the page and this is checking if you have one and whether your keyword is in it. None of the top 10 sites have the keyword in either the description or in an H1 tag which is good news for you. Again we will cover this in part four. GCA – Is the time in days in Google's cache. I ignore this for the most part and advise you to as well. CEXT – This is about the number of backlinks that the site has from the same country. So in this example it is measuring links from sites in the United States. This can be important.

26

Now on the top line we have a Difficulty Rating. This is the rating that Traffic Travis computes from all the factors discussed above to indicate to you how difficult or not it will be to get in the top 10. There ratings are as follows: Extremely Difficult – This almost always means forget it and choose another keyword. Now I have actually ranked keywords with this kind of difficulty before but they take consistent linking and up to 12 months (sometimes longer) to get there. The traffic rewards can certainly be worth it though. Very Difficult – In my experience these take between 9 months and a year to get on the first page for with very consistent linking. Again they are normally high traffic keywords so they can be worth the effort. Difficult – Getting a bit more sensible now but it will probably take 6 to 9 months to get there. Med Difficulty – Now we are getting to it. These typically take around 4 to 6 months with the tactics recommended in this guide. Relatively Easy – These are good. About 3 months tops for these. Easy – Fill your boots. Only a few backlinks needed and 1 or 2 months to page one. Now I must emphasize that this is just a guide based on my experience. Please do not whine and complain to me if it takes longer to get your site on page one. Some of the sites I have performed SEO on have taken longer and some have been very quick. Things like domain age and Page Rank are very important. Now I could write a whole book about competition but I would probably bore you to death and I want you to take action and get your site ranked so the Traffic Travis competition analysis should meet your needs here. So what I want you to do now is go through each one of the keywords you downloaded from the Google Keyword Tool, and plug each one of them into Traffic Travis to see which ones are going to be reasonably easy to rank for and which are more difficult. I would advise going after the easiest ones first. The dentist New York keyword used as an example is good because it gets 1,000 exact searches a month and Traffic Travis rates it as Relatively Easy. Once you get the confidence of ranking your pages well you can move on to the more difficult assignments. One thing to note is that sometimes you will find keywords that have low search volume (less than 500) but are seen as difficult to rank for by Traffic Travis. Unless you are selling very high ticket items I suggest you just forget these keywords altogether. On the other hand you may find a highly searched term that is seen as relatively easy to rank for in Traffic Travis. I am sure I don't need to tell you to go for those big time! OK that's keywords and competition. Let's move on to Indexing and RSS....

27

PART THREE INDEXING AND THE POWER OF RSS 3.1 Indexing New Sites In part one you learned that you must get your new sites and pages indexed in order for them to rank. Well this short session will show you the best ways to do that. It is not just important for your own pages to be indexed but also any backlinks that you create. It is a well known fact that Google and the other search engines are very slow at picking up backlinks so you really need to help them out. Before we get on to the methods, I want to explain a little bit more about how indexing works. Google has a series of robots or spiders that periodically visit sites looking for new content and links. The Google spider is called the “Googlebot and it visits some sites very frequently and some not so often. How does it determine which sites to crawl frequently? By their page rank! A lot of sites with high Page Rank (PR), PR 6 and above get crawled several times a day as they are viewed as high authority where new content is always being added. Sites with lower or no PR can wait days or weeks for a visit from the Googlebot. You will learn in the Backlinks section that we encourage you to get links from sites with high PR (don't worry I will show you how to get these easily) because their pages are crawled often but sometimes even these can do with a bit of help. So if you have a brand new site with a couple of pages of content then it could take weeks to get your site indexed. But never fear because I am here! I will now show you a secret online service that will get your new web site indexed in as little as 24-48 hours! The address of this site is:

http://www.imtalk.org/cmps_index.php?pageid=IMT-Website-Submitter

This is a great tool as it submits your site to a load of high authority web sites that Google crawls all the time. It is very easy to use. This should only be used for Top Level Domains (TLD's) e.g. www.yoursite.com and not pages www.yoursite.com/page.html. Let's have a look at it....

28

All you have to do is enter your new site address in the first box and the keyword for your site in the second box and then choose the number of sites to create a page on. I normally find 500 is enough to get indexed in Google the next day. So your submission should look something like this....

29

Then just hit the submit button and let it do its stuff! It will try and create pages on all the number of sites you have chosen. Usually there are a few failures but don't worry about it. Just leave it running until it gets to the number of sites you have chosen (e.g. 500) and then it will stop. Check the next day in Google by entering your full address into the search box – http://www.yoursite.com and see if your site appears. It should be the first site returned. If it's there congratulations... you just got indexed!

3.2 Indexing New Pages For Existing Sites

If you have a site that is already indexed in the search engines then you will be wanting to add fresh content to it as often as you can. I will cover the subject of content in part four. Content can be different forms of media such as the written word (most popular), images, audio or video. If your site is already ranking and has a number of backlinks to it then the likelihood is that any

30

new pages you will create will be indexed pretty quickly anyway (24-48 hours) but it is always good to give the search engines a little help. If you have never heard of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) then where have you been? It is a simple broadcasting network on the Internet that receives updates about new sites and content and broadcasts this information to those that are interested. There are a number of sites known as RSS directories that take RSS feeds from web sites and aggregate them. Google is very attentive to some of these sites. So what is an RSS Feed? Well it looks like this........

Now this is the feed from my Success blog http://www.asksledge.com. It's a great site you should pop over sometime!

31

The feed contains a list of pages or posts that have been recently made on the site and as you can see there is a snippet of information provided so that if the reader is interested they can click the link to the post and read it in full. How does this help? Well I have set this up so that every time a new post is made it tells all the RSS directories that I have registered my site with. This means that the posts get indexed very quickly (sometimes minutes) and it all runs on autopilot. How do I do this? Simple I use the best blogging platform in the world called Wordpress which is great for SEO and for indexing too. And best of all its absolutely FREE! You see Wordpress has a built in automatic ping system which means that if anything changes on the site hundreds of RSS directories are notified immediately. How cool is that!!! It's brilliant. RSS directories get crawled by the Googlebot each and every day. It probably lives on some of the sites! These days all my web sites are based on Wordpress. It is so easy to use as well as having the built in RSS capabilities. If you have a Wordpress site then you don't really need to do anything to get your posts and pages indexed but you could help it along a bit by adding my list of ping sites in my special ping list which you can download here......

http://www.yourservicespot.com/ping-list

On the page it will show you how to add the additional ping services to your Wordpress blogs – so go get the list for free now! So what if you don't have a Wordpress site? Well you can make an RSS feed from any page by using this simple method I am about to show you. Before we get into that I want to recommend to you a service we provide which is converting static (html) sites to dynamic Wordpress sites. The benefits of Wordpress far outweigh those of an HTML site and if you want to know more then click on the link below. All we need is a few details from you and we will get back to you with a plan and a price. OK so let's create a static page RSS feed... Here is a page from one of my static HTML sites that provides a critical review of the Windows registry fixer programs on the market today:

http://www.fixingmyregistry.com/Registry_Cleaner_Review.html

What we will do now is make an RSS feed from this page and then submit that feed to the absolutely best RSS directory on the Internet. Are you ready? Let's do it....

Go to this site...

http://www.feedage.com/html2rss/

Sign up for a free account... they only require your name and email address and it's totally FREE!

OK after you have signed up then you need to log in and go to your account and you will see a page like this....

33

Now you want to enter in the URL of the HTML page that you want to create an RSS feed from, enter the CAPTCH details correctly and hit the Create My RSS button.

Now you will see a screen like this....

34

This is the newly created RSS feed from your page! How great is that? OK click on this link‌

Then you will see this page....

35

This is your RSS feed. Now you want to send this to some RSS directories (see list in Resources section). There is one directory that you absolutely MUST use and that is feedagg.com. Google loves this directory for some reason and I have had feeds listed there indexed in Google within hours. So let’s go over to feedagg.com‌.

36

Now you will need an account here which is totally free so go and sign up for one and then login and go to the home page like I did in the screen above. Then click on the “Add Feed” link and add in the feed that you just created at feedage.com and a couple of extra details which will look something like this….

37

Hit “Save Feed” and your done.

3.3 Convert To Wordpress Now remember if you have a Wordpress blog as your site’s platform then you don’t have to worry about any of this stuff as it has an automatic RSS ping service built into it. You only have to register your site’s main feed at the directories one time. Converting your site to Wordpress really does make a lot of sense and you can find out more about it here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/wordpress-installation-service

38

PART FOUR CONTENT You may have heard the term “Content Is King” before and I am here to tell you that this is true. Google loves web sites that have new and unique content appearing on them on a regular basis. After the Panda update the focus is now even more on content and the more that you can supply the higher your rankings will be in Google. 4.1 Articles and Blog Posts These are just additional pages of text on your site. If you have a static HTML site then this will need to be newly created and uploaded to your site by you or your web developer. If you have a Wordpress blog then just log in and type away and when you have finished just hit Publish and your new post or page will be live! I told you Wordpress was great! But what do you write about? You are probably wondering what the devil you will write about. Well the best thing to do is to give Google what it wants and write about a subject that is related to your main keyword. Confused? Well I will explain fully now. Google uses a system called Latent Symantec Indexing or LSI (WTF?). This is a very clever computer program that understands the relationship between keywords and phrases. So if you have a dentist surgery in New York and your main keyword is “Dentist New York” then you need to find out what other keywords Google considers are related and write about them. Well how do you do that? Simple...

JUST ASK GOOGLE!

Go to Google and enter in your keyword. Then when the results come back you are going to use a tool that they provide called “Related Searches”. Let's have a look at this....

39

Now as usual the big red arrow provides the clue! Click on the Related Searches link and you will then see a similar page to this....

40

Voilla! Google has supplied you with five different keywords that it considers relate to your main keyword. In this example we have: Best dentist New York Dentist New York City Find dentist New York Cosmetic dentist New York Dentist New York downtown

41

So all you have to do is write an individual page for each one of these topics and Google will love you! But what if you don't like writing or haven't got a clue what to write about? Well that's where we come in. We have a team of native English speaking writers who write superb articles that you can just copy and paste into your web site for any keyword that you want. We give discounts for bulk orders too so solve all your content headaches and head over too....

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-writing-services

How long should your article or blog post be? Well the longer the better!! Size matters with articles! OK calm down. Articles should be at least 400 – 500 words and if you want to write more then all the better. We have a special service that provides high quality articles of up to 800 words and you won't believe the prices. Go here to find out more...

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-writing-services

OK I have my articles so now what? Right so you have either wasted hours of your precious time and written the articles yourself or you have done the smart thing and ordered you articles from us ;) Now you need to add them to your site. If you own a static HTML site you will need to use a web page editor like Dreamweaver or the free offerings from NVU and Komposer (links to these can be found in the Resources and Other Good Stuff section). Then you just copy and paste your article into them. Now before you save these pages and publish them you need to follow my excellent on page optimization advice that will be presented to you in the next part of this awesome book! There are basically nine, easy to implement, important rules that you need to follow to improve your chances of ranking well for every page of your website. So just hang on in there buddy! If you have Wordpress you just log in, add a new post or page, copy and paste and then apply the nine on page optimization rules and hit publish. Do you get the impression that I like Wordpress?

42

4.2 Duplicate Content You may be thinking that it would be a lot easier to just find an article that somebody else has written and just copy and paste that to your site. Easy job eh? Google will love me now! Well hold on just a minute my friend. You see that kind of stuff was OK a few years ago but these days Google has this thing called a duplicate content penalty and if you go copying and pasting other peoples stuff it is very likely that you will damage your sites ranking rather than improve it. Now listen to me very carefully. No matter how tempting it is never go for....

DUPLICATE CONTENT!!

Google will kick your ass! It has happened to me a few times now :( Just don't do it do you hear me!! If you entrust your article writing with us we guarantee that all of our articles are totally unique. You just cannot go wrong. Why take the chance of your web site dropping like a stone. Look the purpose of this guide is to help you get as many pages and sites as you want on the first page of Google. Now if your sites convert well (more on this later) then this could be worth a fortune to you if you are selling products or services from your site. It is a well known fact that organic search engine traffic converts better than any other because it is ultra targeted (people want what you are offering). I have made a small fortune from having my sites and pages on the first page. And it's so easy! So don't even think about complaining about laying out a few measly dollars for some top class UNIQUE articles because you will be laughing all the way to the bank in the long run. Just go here...

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-writing-services

Order the package that you want and we will get right to it for you. And that's a promise. What Else Can You Do With Your New Articles?

43

4.3 Article Spinning Spin them! WTF? You spin them in order to make many different versions of them that you can use to get backlinks from. What spinning means is that you provide alternative words, phrases or even whole sentences to your article using special coding tags known as article spintax. Still none the wiser? Ok here is an example. Consider the following sentence: Graham Bowall is the greatest SEO guru in the world! Now what you want to do here is use words with the same meaning and put them beside your chosen words using the spintax tags {|}. OK let me show you an example: {Graham|Mr} Bowall is the {greatest|best} {SEO|search engine optimization} {guru|king} in the {world|universe}! Now when you feed that through a content spinner it will produce several different versions of that sentence as it picks the words in brackets at random. So you could get: Mr Bowall is the best search engine optimization king in the universe! Or Graham Bowall is the best SEO king in the world! Now do you get it? Great OK now you can take this further and spin entire sentences. So you could do this: {Graham Bowall is the greatest SEO guru in the world|The most amazing SEO king today is Graham Bowall|There is nobody better at search engine optimization in this world than Graham Bowall}! OK now this is only one sentence. But consider a 500 word article that has lots of sentences. Are you beginning to see the power here? The combinations are almost endless once you put this through an article spinner! Let me tell you that spinning articles is about as dull as it gets. You know what's coming don't you? We can spin any article for you for an incredibly low price. Look I used to spin all my own articles and I actually got pretty good at it but each 500 word article still took me over an hour and a half to spin properly. Now if you are new to this then an article could take you ALL DAY to spin properly!!! So don't even think about it just go over here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-spinning-service

44

The prices are incredibly low and the quality excellent. Look you will need some spun articles if you want to get good results with SEO. It is a widely used tactic and it works. For example, one of our most popular services takes a spun article and submits it to three commercial private blog networks (Article Ranks, My Article Network and SEO Link Vine) for only $25! This is so popular and it is totally safe for new and older sites and pages. It works very well too and you will see your site climb up the rankings from this one technique alone. I will explain more in the backlinks section but if you want to have a look now then go to:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/our-services/blog-networks/

45

4.4 Use Images OK here's another good tip when creating new pages for your site. Use pictures (or images). This will break up the page and will be appreciated by your visitors. You can get royalty free images from a number of web sites and I have included a couple of good ones in the Resources section. Better still if you have a digital camera or a cell phone with a high quality camera you can take your own pictures and then upload them to your site via your computer. Before you do this read the next section about on page optimization because there is an important section about images there and how they affect SEO. Now here is a big warning. Images are great but if your camera is crap then don't use images from it. If you post crappy low quality images on your site then visitors will think that you and your products and services are crappy too! Look your web site is the shop window of your business so go for quality and....

BE PREPARED TO SPEND A BIT OF MONEY ON MAKING IT LOOK GREAT!!

This is a subject that is very dear to my heart. Nice looking professional web sites convert better than crappy looking ones in most cases. The Internet is a great place to promote your business. Fortunes have been made by people doing this right and one thing they all have in common is they didn't do it on the cheap. My website marketing company charges people thousands of dollars a month for marketing advice and SEO work (which they are happy to pay) and you are getting this information free! You can get a good ranking for your site by following my advice and spending a few dollars on our services. Not thousands – but a few dollars. Don't try and do it all yourself. This is the quickest way to the poor house! I know I have the T Shirt! Outsourcing is the best way to go. And don't forget that this is all tax deductible. So treat your business as a real business and your web site like a shop window because that is what it is. With the ever growing number of people searching for companies on the Internet these days instead of using the Yellow Pages it never ceases to amaze me why people will put up web sites that look like their dog made them. Rant over!!!

46

4.5 Include Videos OK time to look at the one of the greatest ways to get exposure for your business and help your SEO rankings at the same time – Video. Video is amazing. Youtube.com is the third most visited web site on the planet. Only Google and Facebook get more visitors. Now why do you think that is? People love video! I am going to make some videos to accompany this book and when they are available I will let you know. They will include lots more tips on SEO and other stuff that will benefit your business. People will watch videos about anything. It is much more interesting than reading a load of text so what I am going to recommend that you do now is make a video for your business and put it on your website and the various video sharing sites like Youtube.com and dailymotion.com (full list of sites in the Resources section). Have you lost your marbles Graham that will cost me thousands! No it won't. I am not talking about a Hollywood blockbuster here. I am talking about a professionally made video that contains high quality photographs or even live footage of you talking about the benefits of your business. Now a lot of people are camera shy and won't want to do this but I tell you it works wonders. What about a video testimonial from a happy customer? What kind of impact do you think that would have? Or a tutorial that explains how to do something (like this book). Or a slide show of pictures showing your previous work with a professional narrator saying exactly what you want them to say! Video sells – it's a fact. There are also major SEO benefits to be gained from placing your video on sites like YouTube which I will explain further in chapter five. To see what kind of thing is possible and the amazing prices that you simply won't believe click on the link below:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/video-services

More about video in the Backlinks section. But I will finish this section on content by repeating what I said earlier....

VIDEO SELLS!!!

PART FIVE ON PAGE OPTIMIZATION On page optimization is the process of making sure that all your web pages are very search engine friendly. You will see as we go through some examples that what we are trying to achieve here is giving Google and the others as much help as possible to understand what our pages are about. As I said in the opening chapter, search engines are just machines and they need a lot of help. Fortunately it is very easy to help them. I have created a set of nine rules for on page optimization which I will share with you as we go along and summarize at the end. Before we get into the details of on page optimization, I want to discuss the subject of domain names and page names. Your domain name will conform to the Internet standards and will look something like this:

http://www.yoursite.com

Now your domain may have a different extension. The extension is the .com piece so you could have a .net, .org, .info, .co.uk, .com.au.... it doesn't matter. The important thing is what's actually in the name. If I was setting up a new site today I would buy a domain name with my main keyword in it. Now I have used the New York dentist example throughout this guide so I would look to see if the following domain was available - newyorkdentist.com. Now I happen to know that it is already taken so I would try hyphens i.e. new-york-dentist.com and if that was taken I would add a word or letter on the end for example newyorkdentistbest.com. I am sure you get the idea. Why is this important? Well this will help Google identify the purpose of your site. Now it is only one factor but it is an important one. Google reads your domain name and looks to see if there are any words in there that will give it a clue as to what your site is about. If it finds the keyword (or part of it or associated words) in your domain name then it will make it bold to stand out so that searchers can see your site is related to what they are looking for. Let's have a look at an example. You will see in the screenshot below that Google has highlighted the words dentistnewyork in the domain address dentistnewyorktips.blogspot.com. In the search result above this it has highlighted the word dental because it is an associated keyword. Does this mean that only sites with the keyword in their domain names will rank highly in Google? Not at all! But it does help. If your current domain name doesn't have your keyword in it then don't worry I have a couple of suggestions for you to overcome that which I will tell you about later.

48

So what about individual pages? Well this is a lot easier as you can and must name these directly after your keyword. Carrying on with our dentist them, let's assume that we have decided to create a new page using the keyword “top dentist New York. It is very important that you save the page with the keyword in it so it would look like this: http://www.yoursite.com/top-dentist-new-york.html for an HTML site

or

http://www.yoursite.com/top-dentist-new-york for a Wordpress site 49

This is very powerful as the keyword you are trying to rank for is in your page address or URL (a fancy term for the address!). Now this will be highlighted in Google in the search results too. Let's see an example of this:

You will see underlined in red that yelp.com has an entry and in part of its URL after the domain name are the words “best dentist New York Now I mentioned earlier that I would give you a couple of suggestions if your domain name didn't contain your main keyword. So here they are:

1. Do nothing and just use the SEO tactics in this guide to rank for your main keyword 2. Create a page with your main keyword in it and use the SEO tactics in this guide on that

50

You may be shocked at the first suggestion but don't be as there are millions of domain names that rank number one in Google for a keyword that isn't in their domain name. This is down to good SEO. The only thing with this strategy is that it may take a bit longer to rank without the keyword in the domain. So what you could do is just make a page with the keyword in it and then focus all your SEO efforts on that instead. To put your mind at rest let's have a look at the top two sites returned for the keyword “dentist New York in the screen shot below:

You will see that the top two sites do not have the keyword in their domain name. So don't worry too much about it. This is rule one of the nine on page optimization rules:

PUT YOUR KEYWORD IN THE PAGE URL (PREFERABLY AT THE BEGINNING)

51

OK let's focus now on the actual page itself. In order for you to grasp this on page stuff fully you need to understand some HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) basics. Now don't panic or switch off as this is very easy to understand and remember. HTML is the code used for all web pages. Each web page will be divided into two parts and these are:

The Header (the head of the page) The Body (the main body of the page)

As far as the header part of the page is concerned we are interested in two things:

1. Title 2. Description

HTML isn't a complicated computer language like Java or C++ it is a simple formatting language. It uses tags to tell your browser what to do with the information on the page. An HTML document will start with the following tag <html> and finish with the closing tag at the end of the document which is </html>. Then there will be the header open and close tags which are <head> and </head> and in between these are the title tags <title> and </title>. “So what? I hear you say. Well your page title is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Where does the title appear on your page?

52

It appears at the very top of your page but even more important than this is that it is the first thing that search engine users see when they are searching. Now you will notice that in the example above the keyword “dentist New York is in the page title right at the beginning which is excellent. Let's see how this looks in Google...

53

This looks good doesn't it? You will also notice that the keyword “dentist New York is highlighted in the title for extra eyeball attention. Internet searchers are scanners and they will skim a page of search results and click on what catches their eye. So the fact that what they just searched for is highlighted in the page title makes it more attractive. It is no secret that all of the pages that rank highly for a specific keyword will have that keyword in their page title. YOU MUST DO THIS TOO!!! So the second of our nine rules of on page optimization is...

PUT YOUR KEYWORD IN YOUR PAGE TITLE AT THE BEGINNING

54

The next important aspect is the page description. This is often referred to as the meta description. The html tags are <meta type “description” .....> Your page description is only important for the search engines. It appears under the page title in the search engine results and is absolutely VITAL. Your page description is your chance to get the click no matter where you appear on the search page. Most descriptions that I see are boring as can be. Let's have a look at a reasonable description....

I searched for “dentist New York” but you will see that the words “New York dentist” are highlighted twice in this description. Basically Google doesn't care in which order the words appear and will give you credit either way. If I was targeting the keyword “dentist New York” then I would use those exact words in the beginning of the description and find some way of getting them in at the end too. Never use more than two instances of your keyword in your description as you may get penalized by Google and even if you don't it just looks like spam. So rule number three is...

55

PUT YOUR KEYWORD IN THE DESCRIPTION AT THE BEGINNING AND AT THE END

As I said before do not go crazy with this and have a description that only contains your keyword over and over again. This is known as “keyword stuffing” and is not cool. With a little effort and brain power you can write a compelling description that attracts visitors and still get your keyword in there at least once and preferably twice. OK we have finished with the head of your page, now we will look at the body <body></body> section where your content (text, images and videos) is displayed. Although the body of your page is not displayed in the search engine results, it is no less important. The Googlebot doesn't just read your title and description it will read everything that is on your page as well. A good rule of copywriting is to break up sections of your text with sub headings. In HTML speak these are called Header Tags and come in various sizes - <h1></h1>, <h2></h2>, <h3></h3> and so on. We are only concerned with H1 – H3. Any piece of content on a web page should have a title. Now please don't confuse this with the page title which is completely different. Look at the example below: Dentist New York – What To Look For? Blah blah blah Characteristics Of A Good Dentist New York More blah blah blah The Best Dentist New York Final blah blah blah. In this example, the red sentence is the title of the content or the main heading so this should be where we put our H1 tags. The blue sentences are secondary headings so I would put the second one in an H2 tag and the last one in an H3 tag. Why is this important? Well it provides emphasis. The other thing that you probably noticed is that I used my keyword in all three headings. This helps Google understand that the page is optimized for this keyword which will help it rank. Using header tags is very easy if you have a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editor like NVU and also very easy in Wordpress. Rather than show you lots of screen shots on how to do this I have created a small video for you which shows you exactly how to do it. WATCH THE H TAG VIDEO HERE 56

So the fourth rule of on page optimization is.......

PUT YOUR KEYWORD IN THE THREE TITLE TAGS H1, H2 AND H3

We are now going to have a look at images. I said before that it is always a good idea to add a relevant image or two in with your text so that it breaks it up nicely and keeps your reader from falling asleep. Images have SEO value too and the vast majority of websites out there do not take advantage of this. In the good old days when everyone was using dial up services to connect to the Internet, loading images on a page used to take a long time because the connection speeds were so slow. It is even possible now to turn off images in your web browser but most people don't do this anymore as their connection speeds are pretty fast. In HTML you can provide an explanation of what the image is about and this is known as Alt Text (Alternative Text) or sometimes it is called associated text. For all of your images you should use your alternative text feature and insert your keyword. Also you should use file names for your images that are keyword optimized too. An example of this for our dentist site would be to use a file name for your image like dentistnewyork.jpg or dentist-new-york.jpg or even dentist_new_york.jpg. I am sure you get the idea. You can use your browser to see if an image has alternative text or not by placing your mouse pointer over the image, right clicking and selecting view image info. Here is an example....

57

They have done a good job here by using their keyword in the alternative or associated text. But they have missed a trick with not naming the image with the keyword. In this example they used home_image2.jpg. Google and the other search engines cannot read images so by providing alternative text for your images you are again helping them understand what your site is about. So the fifth rule of on page optimization is......

PUT YOUR KEYWORD IN THE ALT TAG FOR YOUR IMAGES

The next rule of on page optimization is concerned with the number of times that your keyword appears in your content. If you have a 500 word article that you are going to enter into a page, then your keyword should occur 4 or 5 times on this page (this is an approximation). This is 58

referred to as “Keyword Density”. Keyword density used to be very important for rankings but this has changed and now I would say it is still worth paying attention to but won't get you to the top of Google on its own. There are plenty of free keyword density checkers online so you can see what your keyword density is. As a rule of thumb I always aim for around 2-5% keyword density. You must not overdo this. Don't keyword stuff and add too many instances of your keyword in your text or the big G will slap your ass!! So the sixth rule of on page optimization is.....

AIM FOR A KEYWORD DENSITY OF AROUND 2-3%

Staying with the theme of your content, the next important area of on page optimization is “Keyword Placement”. You need to strategically place your keyword in the first paragraph of your text (as close to the beginning as you can), in the middle paragraph of your text and in the final paragraph (as close to the end as possible). I think this is fairly self explanatory and a good example of keyword placement can be seen at this site: http://www.fatlossprogrampro.com They are optimizing for the keyword “fat loss program”. So the seventh rule of on page optimization is...

USE KEYWORD PLACEMENT AT THE BEGINNING, IN THE MIDDLE AND AT THE END OF YOUR PAGE

The next on page optimization rule also relates to your text and it is known as “Keyword Enhancement” which is the process of using the bold, italic or underline functions on at least two of your keywords and a maximum of four of them. Again if you look at the fatlossprogrampro.com site they have used the bold function on the first and the last instances of their keyword.

So the eighth rule of on page optimization is...

59

USE BOLD, ITALIC OR UNDERLINE TO ENHANCE A FEW OF YOUR KEYWORD INSTANCES (DON'T OVERDO IT)

The final on page optimization technique may be considered strange by some of you but I want you to place an outbound link on your page to an authority site for your keyword or a related keyword. Go back to the fatlossprogrampro.com site and you will see an excellent example of this. They have linked to a high authority site (wikipedia.org) using the anchor text “weight loss”. By doing this it shows Google that you are serious about your subject matter and are providing choices to people to further research the subject. You only need one link on each page. So the ninth and final on page optimization rule is...

CREATE AN OUTBOUND LINK TO AN AUTHORITY SITE USING YOUR KEYWORD OR ASSOCIATE KEYWORD

5.1 Nine Rules Of On Page Optimization

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

Put your Keyword in the page URL (preferably at the beginning) Put your Keyword in your Page Title at the beginning – critical Put your Keyword in the description at the beginning and at the end - critical Put your Keyword in the three title tags H1, H2 and H3 Put your Keyword in the Alt Tag for your Images Aim for a Keyword Density of around 2-3% Use Keyword Placement at the beginning, middle and at the end of your page Use bold, italic or underline to enhance a few of your keyword instances – don't overdo it Create an outbound link to an authority site using your Keyword or related Keyword

60

PART SIX BACKLINKS AND STRATEGIES OK here we are at the real meat of this guide – backlinks. There is a theory that is commonly believed that the on page optimization that you do for your pages only contributes around 10% to your overall SEO efforts and that your off page optimization (backlinks) will provide the other 90%. There is a very good example of this. If you go to Google and do a search for the keyword “click here” then you will find adobe.com is in the top spot. It has been there for years and the reason is that it is the page to download the Adobe reader for PDF documents (like this one). So many web sites have provided a link to this web site using the anchor text “click here” that it occupies the number one spot. If you look at the Adobe page you will see that it is in no way optimized for the keyword, in fact the term “click here” never appears once. That is the POWER of backlinks. Having said that, I do not want you to think that on page optimization is not worth doing because it most certainly is. It is unlikely that your web site has the sort of authority that adobe.com has – it is a Page Rank 9 site that has been around for years. So before you start with your backlink campaign please be sure to..... COMPLETE YOUR ON PAGE OPTIMIZATION FIRST! Before we move on to the actual strategies I want to explain what a backlink is, and talk about anchor text, bare links, do follow and no follow. If you know all this already then you can skip this section. 6.1 What Is A Backlink?

61

A backlink is a direct link to your site from another external site. So the first site in the picture above could be www.theirsite.com where your site would be www.yoursite.com. Like most things in life, not all backlinks are the same and there are high quality and low quality links, links that do not pass on any Page Rank and links that contain the keyword that you are targeting and links that don't. This is all OK as it will all be seen as natural by Google. 6.2 Reciprocal Backlinks This is where I link to you and you link back to me. This was very popular a few years ago but Google has discounted these links in the main now as they know they are contrived.

6.3 Anchor Text What this means is that you code your backlink with the keyword that you want to target. Let's say that your site address was www.yoursite.com and you are targeting the keyword “teeth whitening” then you would use the following code to create an anchor text with HTML: <a href=”http://www.yoursite.com”>teeth whitening</a> This would show your link like this: teeth whitening By doing this you are telling the search engines that your site is about teeth whitening and this will help you rank for this term. Anchor text is EXTREMELY important and you MUST use it as often as possible. It is a good idea to mix it up a bit using bare links and alternative anchor text to make it look more natural. I will cover this later.

62

6.4 Bare Links Bare links are just your web address without the anchor text. Some web sites will only allow you to enter a bare link – this is OK as any link is good and it looks natural anyway. So a bare link looks like this: http://www.yoursite.com

6.5 No Follow Attribute This is a link (anchor text or bare) that does not pass on any Page Rank juice from the web page that the link is held on. If you were able to get a link from a Page Rank 6 page (that would be really good by the way) then some of the Page Rank juice from the page will be passed on to your page which will improve your Page Rank. It can also improve your ranking in the search engines too. If that page has implemented the “no follow” attribute, you will receive no Page Rank juice from the page. This does not mean that you will not be credited for the link by the search engines. It just means that your Page Rank will not increase by virtue of this link. The HTML code for a no follow link looks like this: <a href=”http://www.yoursite.com” rel=”no follow”>teeth whitening</a> Do follow links are normal backlinks which do not have the no follow attribute attached to them.

6.6 SEO Fundamentals This is very important so please read ALL of this section. 6.6.1 Time It Will Take To Rank The time that it takes to rank your site or page on the first page of Google is directly related to the competitiveness of the keyword you are trying to rank for and the number of backlinks that you get for your pages. I have already shown you that you can use the great Traffic Travis program to provide an assessment of the difficulty level when it comes to ranking for a specific keyword. I use Traffic Travis all the time and I find its assessments pretty accurate most of the time. 6.6.2 What Type Of Backlink Strategy To Adopt 6.6.2.1 Aggressive If you want to rank quickly then you will need to adopt an aggressive backlinking strategy. I have provided a backlinking strategy diagram that has been proven to work in the next couple of pages. If you want to be aggressive you need to be creating backlinks every other day for as long as it takes to rank. I especially recommend the use of more than one rank buster package. I use three every month for each keyword. 6.6.2.2 Medium This is where you would use a backlink package every 4 or 5 days to build up to the full backlinking strategy and would be expected to rank in the usual estimated time related to your keyword competitiveness. To remind you what these times are let me refresh your memory:

6.6.2.3 Slow This is not recommended but can be done if you so choose. This is where you would buy one package every couple of weeks and you would see some movement but it would take quite a time. I would go as far as to say that you could probably double the time scales shown in the table above with this kind of strategy. 6.7 Link Velocity Google now measures the consistency of your link building. What a lot of people do is build tons of links in the beginning and then maybe add a few more links now and again and wonder why their site either won't rank or gets fairly high and then drops like a stone. DO NOT DO THIS! Google will be on to you quicker than you know it. Decide what strategy you are going to adopt and stick with it. If you are going to be aggressive and do something every other day then keep doing that until you get there. Aggressive backlinking is a great strategy and will get you there faster. We have aggressive linking packages available which will get you to the top quickly. Have a look at them here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/aggressive-seo

THE HIGHER YOU CLIMB THE MORE YOU WILL NEED TO DO

The nearer that you get to the coveted first page then the more you will need to do to actually get on it. Think about it for a moment. All of the most SEO optimized pages are ranking on the first three pages so as you get nearer you have to do more to beat them. You have to out SEO them! A number of people get stuck on page two and can't seem to move. The answer to this normally is a couple of rank buster packages and a .edu authority package to finally get you there. High Page Rank home page links are also a good solution here.

65

6.8 New Sites I have already mentioned new sites before but I will say this again...

BE GENTLE WITH NEW SITES!

I have lost count of the times that I have heard people bleating about how they blasted their new site with tons of Xrumer profile links or Scrapebox blog comments directly to the pages that they want to rank and then it disappears out of Google altogether. If this does ever happen to you and it shouldn't if you follow my guidance, then just keep building sensible links like the rank buster or blog network options and in time it will come back. Sometimes you can follow a plan meticulously and this can happen to you (with Google shit happens all the time). It has happened to me occasionally so you must...

NEVER GIVE UP AND KEEP BUILDING LINKS!

I have always been able to resurrect sites this way. It can take a few weeks though and above all it takes a lot of patience. It's like a test from Google. They are testing you out to see if you are serious or not. Hey I have sites sitting in the number one position that this happened to so just keep doing it.

6.9 The Google Dance You have probably heard of this. It has happened to everybody that has tried to rank their pages in Google. What happens is that your site jumps up a few positions or even pages after your last SEO efforts and then the next day or sometimes the same day it drops down a few places. It is normally still a net gain in rankings. This is Google juggling around with all the rankings and it will stabilize. The thing to do here again is to continue with your linking efforts. Don't get despondent. It happens to us all and is quite normal. SEO Takes Time And Patience And money unless you have the time to do it all yourself manually. There is an old saying....

66

THE BEST THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT

If you don't want to spend a few bucks a month on the SEO of your site consider your alternatives: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Do nothing – hmm! Build it and they will come rarely applies to the Internet Buy top positions with Pay Per Click – I hope you have a very big wallet! Buy advertising on related web sites – can work but you are not really building any value Use other free traffic methods – there are some but sometimes they can take longer than SEO!

Now think about this for a minute. Getting traffic is one thing – converting the traffic to buyers or subscribers is another. I have got service providers to the first page knowing that their pages wouldn't convert. I told them that they would need to change their sites so that people would be more likely to call them or whatever it was that they wanted their visitors to do but they didn't listen. Then what happens? They get there and come crying to me that Internet marketing doesn't work and nobody is calling them. Well what a surprise. Look, Internet marketing does work but there is a lot more to it than people think. If you get to page one and your conversions are low then you can make a few tweaks to your pages to test for higher conversions can't you? If you are on page 8 then only your grandma will visit you!

SEO IS THE FIRST INTERNET MARKETING STRATEGY YOU SHOULD ADOPT

It makes sense for you to outsource your SEO work to us so that you can concentrate on other areas of your business. SEO really is grunt work and can be boring as hell. This is the reason that most people do not do it or do enough of it.

67

6.10 Different Types Of Links 6.10.1 Relevant Links Google and the other search engines are looking for relevancy and will reward you with a higher ranking if your site is relevant to what the searcher is looking for and if you have links from relevant sites. Now many people dispute the claim that relevant links are worth more than other links but it my testing I have seen that this is a factor. It is not a HUGE factor though. The problem is that getting relevant links for your site is not easy. Think about it. If you are a dentist in New York do you think that one of your competitors is going to give you a link from their web site? Not likely is it? But you could get a link from a dentistry forum. My advice here is to get them if you can but not to worry too much about it. 6.10.2 Contextual Links These are the best kind of links to get. This is where your site is linked in part of a paragraph of text and is best demonstrated by an example:

There are many types of teeth whitening products and methods on the market and it is often difficult to chose which one will work best. It is best to try one and stick with it for a while to see what results you can achieve.

You can see that the words “teeth whitening are an anchor text link and this is known as a contextual link. Contextual links are very powerful and can be found in blog posts, articles, press releases or just a page on a normal HTML site.

6.10.3 Straight Links

This is a link which is not embedded in a block of text and just stands alone on a page. Here is an example of a straight link:

68

Straight links can appear anywhere on a page. Some blogs have a “blog roll where they provide links to friends and related sites. With your link building efforts it is best to get as many contextual links as you can as this will certainly help with your rankings. A few straight links will not harm as well and provides a good natural mix. Your Service Spot has a wide range of contextual and straight linking packages available at great prices and you can check them out here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/backlink-service

These will give you great results with your ranking and all you have to do is sit back and watch it all happen! 69

6.11 High Page Rank Links As I said before, every page on the Internet has a Page Rank from 0 to 10. There is also an NA rank which means that Google hasn't made its mind up but these are considered very weak. Now there are 2 things to consider when getting links from a site:

1. The domain Page Rank 2. The Page Rank of the actual page your link will appear on

OK let me give you an example of domain Page Rank. Ezinearticles.com is a well known article directory where people post articles to get backlinks to their web sites. The main domain – ezinearticles.com has a Page Rank of 6 which is very good. If you post a new article at ezinearticles.com then the Page Rank of the page where your article will be published will be zero. This does not mean that it is not a good link. It is a good link because it is coming from an authority site (ezinearticles.com) and Google will give you credit for this. It will not pass much Page Rank link juice to you though. Now if your article was to appear with your link on ezinearticles.com home page which has a Page Rank of 6 you would get a lot of link juice and lots more Google love (this isn't going to happen by the way so don't even bother trying). Do you see the difference here? It has become virtually impossible now to get a link on a high Page Rank page without paying for it. Web site owners are normally aware of the value of high Page Rank and will be looking to monetize this if they can. The alternative is to find a blog post on a high authority site that has Page Rank on the page and leave a comment there. You will get Google love for this but the link juice passed on to your site will be shared with all the other people that have left a comment with their link there too. In my experience, blog commenting on high Page Rank (PR) pages is worth it and it will improve your rankings and authority. You need to make sure that there are not thousands of others commenting on the same page though as this will make your link next to worthless. Any page with less than 200 outbound links (OBL) is OK. The other way to get high Page Rank links is to buy home page links on blog networks or individual sites. Again the number of OBL is important here but sellers of these links rarely go over 80 links per page which will give you good link juice and a ranking boost. Often these type of links are paid for on a monthly basis and if you stop paying the link will be sold to somebody else. If it is a good deal then there are always plenty of people that will take your spot.

70

We have some excellent deals on high PR page links which you can find at:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/high-page-rank-links

We also offer a range of blog commenting services which are effective and very popular at:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/blog-commenting-service

Here is an example of a blog comment with a link...

71

This blog page is a PR4 and the do follow links are highlighted in blue. This is a Firefox plugin that I use to see whether links are do follow or no follow as you want to get as many do follow blog comments as you can. The reason is the link juice that is passed to your site. Just remember this...

A PR5 LINK IS EQUAL TO 7816 PR0 LINKS OR 711 PR 1 LINKS

And it will still be valuable even if you are sharing the page juice with others which is normal with blog commenting. Now although blog commenting is good and certainly worth doing, I would never rely on it as my sole source of links. Why? Well comments get deleted sometimes or your comment gets pushed onto page 2 (which has no PR) or the owner may delete the entire post so your linking effort is gone. Blog commenting needs to be a part of your linking strategy. Don't just buy a lot of blog comments and think that the job is done. You need some more permanent links that will stay around for a long while and these are the contextual links that I referred to earlier.

72

6.12 Backlinking Strategy The diagram below shows you the optimal backlinking strategy for great SEO results:

Don't worry if it looks overwhelming I will go over each section in detail. This is the whole package which I recommend for the most competitive of keywords and for any other keyword that you just want to dominate and stay in the number one position of Google for a long time (and who isn't going to want to do that?). Basically it boils down to this – if you want to rank your site and it's inner pages high in the search engines then you need to get acquainted with what all this means and start doing it now! Some of these tactics will give noticeable jumps in the rankings while others provide a stabilizing effect (keeping your position).

73

6.13 Getting Contextual Links So you have your site with a few pages of useful content – now what? Well the best thing is to get some contextual links from article directories, Web 2.0 sites that let you post your content and links back to your site, posts on blog networks (private) and press releases. Firstly I want to talk about changes that Google and the others make on a regular basis that can severely change your rankings overnight (up or down). These are called algorithm changes and what they try to do with these changes is give the searchers a better service by providing the most relevant results. The latest change (called the Panda update) has caused a lot of havoc. Sites that have enjoyed high positions for search terms suddenly disappeared. This happened to some of my sites and was incredibly frustrating. What I discovered was that my sites that were not affected all had quality content on them and the backlinks were largely made up from contextual links. I hope that Google never changes its stance on contextual links but who knows. As the large majority of the content on the Internet is still text based it is likely that Google will still give credit to these links for the foreseeable future. But you never know! The first place that you need to get contextual links from are blog networks. These are privately owned and I have tried a large number of them (all but one have a monthly charge) and they are very good. If you only have one or two sites then it is not worth paying the monthly charge. We have memberships in all of them and can submit your content for them for a small fee. 6.13.1 Rank Buster Network This is a privately owned network of over three thousand blogs that are all aged and have PR from 0 – 4 that are incredible for getting rank boosts in the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages). The owners of this network have agreed a deal with Your Service Spot to allow our clients to create a post on over 700 blogs each time. This is an incredible service which will give you an almost instant boost in the rankings. You can find out more about the rank buster network here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/rank-buster

There is a video on the page that shows a test I did with this package and the incredible results that I achieved from using one blast of this. Now there are 3000+ blogs so you can do a blast for all your pages more than once! Own Google now with the Rank Buster Network!

74

6.13.2 Article Ranks This is a great site that lets you submit spun articles to there ever growing network of blogs. There is an account charge of $89 a month for their top plan (the other two are not worth having in my opinion) and this allows you to submit unlimited numbers of articles to their big network of blogs. They claim that you will see ranking improvements in less than 30 days which I have experienced myself so it does work. Now rather than forking out $89 a month, we have some super packages where we will submit your articles for you for a ridiculously low price. Check the packages out here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/blog-networks

My Article Network This is owned by Matt Callen who is very well respected in the Internet Marketing arena. My Article Network (MAN) has achieved incredible results for people and they have a network of over 10,000 blogs. As always the barrier is the monthly membership price. At $67 a month it's cheaper then Article Ranks but still too much for most people. Well the good news is that there is no need to pay this money out. We can do it for you with our incredible outsourcing packages. Just go to:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/blog-networks

6.13.3 SEO Linkvine This is owned by Matt Callen's brother Brad, who is the more well known of the two. Brad Callen is famous for his software products such as SEO Elite, Keyword Elite and many others. His products are top quality and so is SEO Link Vine. Brad doesn't disclose how many blogs he has in the network but it will be a lot and it's continuously expanding. But at $67 a month it's a bit of a turn off. Now what if you could submit your article to all three services for a crazy low price? Well you can:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/blog-networks

75

Blog networks are the ideal place to get your rankings moving. Start off with a blast from the Rank Buster Network and then get some link juice from the other three networks by ordering a combo package. For each of these services you will need a unique article that is spun using the conventional spintax {word or phrase 1|word or phrase 2}. This is explained further in the next section on article directories. Now the good thing with these blog posting networks is that you can put your anchor text links (maximum of 2 recommended) anywhere in the content. My advice is to get it in the first paragraph. All have my tests have shown that links in the first paragraph are the best place. This is the total opposite of articles that are submitted to article directories where you have to include your links in a resource box or bio box at the end of the content! The reason that blog networks work so well in improving rankings is that Google believes that these blogs are all owned by different people and that they have posted a link to your site(s) because they think that your site is good. This differs from article directories where Google knows that anyone can create an account and post articles that link back to their sites. That doesn't mean that you should discount article directories by any means. It just means that blog networks are far more likely to increase your rankings whereas articles have a more stabilizing effect. You should do both as you can use the same content that you wrote for the blog networks in the article directories.

76

6.14 Articles And Article Directories Article directories differ from blog networks in that they do not allow links directly in the body of the content. Instead they allow you to create a resource box or bio box paragraph where you can insert your links. If you are unfamiliar with this let's have a look at an example:

It's a simple system really. It is your opportunity to guide the reader to your site. These are do follow links that will help with your rankings if you get enough of them. There are thousands of article directories on the Internet and as you can imagine Google rates a few of them highly and the others not so. This does not mean that you shouldn't use them. The top rated article directories have good PR and more importantly attract a high number of visitors that actually want to read what you have published. The top three in my opinion are:

77

1. ezinearticles.com 2. goarticles.com 3. articlesbase.com

Now you can set up an account at these sites for free and post your articles there. Since the Panda update, the top directories have become very choosy about the quality of submissions that they accept. They will no longer accept duplicate articles or crappy 300 word pieces. So you need to make sure that your articles are between 400 – 500 words (longer if you want) and are not duplicates. Here is one piece of advice that you must take on board....

ALWAYS CREATE ANOTHER ARTICLE FOR YOUR PROMOTIONS – DON'T USE CONTENT FROM YOUR SITE!

This is very important. Don't go and spin your site content and then submit this to blog networks or article directories. It will bite you in the ass and your rankings can suffer! Now I know that a lot of you will not relish the task of writing a quality article and then spinning it in a quality way so that it remains unique and readable whatever version that you read but it really isn't that difficult. The smart way to go is to have somebody write it for you and we can provide you with a high quality, well researched article for a few bucks that will get your article marketing and blog network campaign up and running. Just go here and get it all done:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-writing-services

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-spinning-service

OK so you got your article and it is spun correctly. Now what you need to do is submit the original pre-spun version to the best article directory which is ezinearticles.com. Then use spun versions to submit to goarticles.com and the others. Now if you don't have accounts at these directories then this will be a very time consuming job for you but worth doing. We can submit your article to 500 directories for a really low price for you. Go here to find out more:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-submission-service 78

Time to discuss the lower quality article directories and mass submissions using a great tool called Article Marketing Robot (AMR). This tool will take your spun article and submit it to hundreds of lower authority directories. I have used AMR many times in my SEO campaign and always had good results from it. The good thing about using AMR is that you are getting around 100 - 200 automatically approved articles which means up to 400 live links! Then over time the other directories will approve your article and this is great for Google ranking. The AMR software is pretty expensive and can be a challenge to operate so let us do your AMR blasts for you.

http://www.yourservicespot.com/article-submission-service

One thing I want to make clear about using AMR. Do not expect to get lots of traffic from this because you won’t – this is purely and simply to give Google the contextual backlinks that it loves so much.

79

6.15 Document Sharing Sites Another great source of links is to submit your articles to document sharing sites. These sites are well respected by Google and get a lot of traffic! They also have high PR. Some of the sites are no follow but don’t let that put you off as Google will take note that you have a link back from these sites. Here is an example of an article placed on a document sharing site:

Now these sites require you to submit your article in the Adobe PDF format or in the form of a presentation (PowerPoint or Open Office Impress). You can leave live links in your PDF’s and presentations to get your backlinks as well as traffic from visitors wanting to know more by visiting your site. The top sites are Docstoc.com Scribd.com

80

Calameo.com Yudu.com Issuu.com Slideshare.com Myebook.com I have found document sharing site links to be very powerful in the past and still use them today. The only drawback is the work required to create a PDF document and split your article up into a readable PowerPoint presentation. But don’t worry because we can do this for you for a very low price. Check out the service here: http://www.yourservicespot.com/document-sharing-service

OK that's it on articles – let's have a look now at Press Releases.

81

6.16 Press Releases – Awesome Power If Done Correctly A press release is a write up about your web site or business that is written for news worthiness rather than to promote your business like an advertisement or soft sell your business like an article. It is always written in the third person and unless it is correctly done it will be rejected from most of the high quality press release directories. For an example of a high quality press release go here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/press-release-services

You can see from this that it varies greatly from a normal article. Press release writing is a real art and although I have written many of them I now use the guys in my team to write the press release and submit it to the BEST distribution sites so that it ends up in Google News and gives me some excellent backlinks. I have seen some major SERP jumps from using these guys and they are now available to you. They are not the cheapest service that we offer but certainly one of the best. If you order nothing else from us then you really need to check this service out....

http://www.yourservicespot.com/press-release-services

If you already have a press release and want it distributed we can help you there too. Just go to

http://www.yourservicespot.com/press-release-services

I cannot stress to you how important press releases are to your SEO efforts. Press release sites are held in high authority by Google and the other search engines and will have a positive impact on your rankings. But not all press release services are the same. You need to go for quality. Sure you can use Prweb.com if you have the money but I have to tell you that I have achieved BETTER results from using my guys. One of the sites that they syndicate to is a PR9 site!

82

It will also give you great exposure too. You will get traffic and great backlinks. It is a total no brainer!

83

6.17 Web 2.0 Sites Web 2.0 sites such as Wordpress.com (not to be confused with Wordpress.org which is a blogging platform to use on your own domain name), vox.com and blogger.com provide platforms so that you can create your own blogs and web sites and populate them with your own content and links back to your site. Using these sites used to be a very powerful way to rank your sites but as usual Google has caught on to the fact that web site owners can use them to post content with links back to their site so they have lost a little of their value over the years. Having said that, most of these sites have good domain PR ranging from PR4 – PR8. The best way to use these sites is to create a ring network and then fire profile links and low PR blog comments at them. Have a look at the diagram below:

The idea here is to create a ring of web 2.0 and web site creation sites that link directly to the page that you are trying to rank. Use your main keyword in eight of the sites and two alternative keywords in the other two. The second thing that we will do is blast these sites with profile links created with Xrumer and low PR blog comments created via Scrapebox. You can find more details about our Web 2.0 services here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/web-2.0-services

84

6.18 Social Bookmarking

A few years ago when social bookmarking really took off (around 2006) it had real credibility with Google. Now it is still considered important but not quite as much. In 2006 I was able to rank one of my web sites on page one of Google by using social bookmarks alone. This is not possible any more but that doesn't mean that you should discount them.

What happened was that the social bookmarking sites got spammed to death and some of them just stopped operating while others made their links no follow and kicked out a lot of the spammers. Tools became available like Bookmarking Demon for mass submissions and the search engines just got wise to the whole thing.

The best way to approach social bookmarking is to do it manually. This is a very time consuming process but as usual we have a few low priced services that will take care of it all for you.

Social bookmarks are a good way to get your site indexed, stabilize your rankings and get actual targeted visitors who have an interest in what your site has to offer. So do I recommend social bookmarking to you? Absolutely! Have a look at our page of social bookmarking services and go for it now!

http://www.yourservicespot.com/social-bookmarking-services

6.19 High Page Rank Home Page Links

These are link opportunities on the home pages of blogs and other sites that have a medium to high PR where the owner of the network will provide a link to your site from each of their sites for a monthly fee. These links are very POWERFUL.

To give you an example we have access to networks that are on a budget at $47 a month where you get 5 X PR4 links, 7 X PR3 links and 7 X PR2 links which will give your site a great boost and provide excellent stabilization.

If you want a mega boost we have a mega pack which contains 1 X PR6 link, 6 X PR5, 22 X PR4, 6 X PR3 and 1 X PR2 for only $69 a month. This is MEGA POWER and will help you get to that number one spot better than anything else!

Find out more here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/high-page-rank-links

86

6.20 High Authority Links

Google treats any links from educational establishments and government sites as high authority links. There is talk at the moment that Google has downgraded these links but my continuous testing has proved that this FAR FROM THE TRUTH,

A lot of people will jump on any talk that is going around in forums and on SEO sites but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that these links are absolutely GOLDEN. The reason is simple – they are very hard to get! Normal individuals cannot just register a .edu or .gov domain at godaddy.com. It just doesn't work like that. These domain extensions are only provided to bona fide establishments.

So don't believe all the BS that you might come across. They are fantastic links and the more you can get the better. It is advisable to start with our normal link packages first and build up some ranking and backlinks before getting .edu and .gov links. The reason for this is that it will look a lot more credible to Google as it is unlikely that these kinds of organizations would be voting for a brand new site with no other backlinks!

SEO is all about common sense and too many people try to buck the system to rank at lightning speed and then end up disappointed because their site disappears out of the rankings for no apparent reason. Well let me tell you that there is ALWAYS A REASON and that reason most of the time is unnatural link building. This can be building links too fast or getting the wrong kinds of links too quickly,

If you have already obtained a fair number of links (over 1000) from us then it is OK to use these packages. They will give you a great SERP boost and you will want to use them more and more. I recommend getting a package a month. Check out our high authority link packages here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/buy-edu-links

87

6.21 Profile Links These are links gained from high domain PR sites such as forums and social networking sites. Over the last 2-3 years, profile links have grown in popularity immensely and I have ranked on the first page of Google for low to medium competition keywords using profile links alone in the past. After the Panda update, profile links seem to have lost their power and now I use them to boost the link juice of my Web 2.0 rings which works very effectively. Some people still swear by the power of profile links pointing to their money pages but I have noticed that they are not so effective any more. Here is an example of a profile link:

The site has a PR of 7 which is excellent but this newly created page does not carry any page rank. The problem with these links is that they tend to get deleted often by forum and site moderators which sends all the wrong messages to Google. The other problem is that they rarely

88

get indexed but you can help this process along by following my link indexing procedure at the end of this chapter.

6.22 Video Links

We have covered video in some detail already in the content section but I will go over the basics again here. You need to have video on your site and you need links from the quality video sharing sites such as youtube.com, dailymotion.com and metacafe.com. I have provided a full list of quality video sharing sites in the resources section. So for all your video creation and syndication needs just head over to our video pages and you will be amazed.

We can create stunning videos for you for incredible prices. We also provide other video services that you can check out here:

http://www.yourservicespot.com/video-services

89

6.23 Submissions To Software Sharing Sites

This is a great way to get links that Google loves and so few people are using this great technique. What happens here is that a small software application is created for you (like a game puzzle) and then we will set up all the necessary files and send them to you to upload to your hosting. Don't worry, we have a video that explains exactly what you need to do and if you still don't get it then we can upload the files on your behalf for a small charge.

Once this is completed and we have tested that everything is correct, we will submit your software to either 1000 or 2000 software directories. The reason for doing this is that all directories that accept your software will create a special page for it and a link back to your site! Now a lot of these directories have PR and they are absolutely loved by Google!

Here is an example of a software listing‌

This is a PR 4 site and the red arrow shows the link back to your site with anchor text! Some of them will give a do follow link and some no follow so it makes for a good mix.

You will get a rise in the rankings from doing this and the even better news is that only a few sites will automatically approve your listing and others will do it over time so you will be picking up very valuable links in the future which all looks totally natural.

These links can be used at any time and it is possible to use this service more than once but we will only do it for you once a month as any more will look suspicious to the directories and they may ban your domain name which you certainly don't want. 6.24 High PR Directory Submissions

These used to be very popular but have been somewhat forgotten by SEO professionals over time. Here is an example of a directory submission:

The idea is that you submit your site to these directories (most only accept top level domains e.g. www.yoursite.com and not pages) with a title (your keyword) and a description and then after a while they will approve your listing and you will get a one way backlink to your site. Now if you use our packages we will manually submit to many of these sites and gradually you will get links back to your site. This is again a natural approach to keep the search engines happy. Check out our directory submission services here:

6.25 Social Networks The rise in popularity of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter is nothing short of mind blowing! If you don’t have accounts with these sites it is strongly recommended that you get one as you are living in the dark ages without them. More importantly, Google is now giving SEO benefit to users of these services. Even though the links from both sites are no follow, the fact that your site is being mentioned in tweets and on people’s Facebook walls means that it must be popular (makes sense right?). Another good thing to do is have a Facebook fan page for your account. Not only is this good promotion for your business but it is recognized by Google as a good move. Google has tried to enter the social networking arena on a few occasions and not had much success. Orkut.com is one of their sites and then there was Google Buzz which didn’t do much for them. They are bringing out a new service soon called Google Plus and it will be very interesting to see how that turns out. It is rumored that people will be able to vote for web sites using their Plus accounts and that this will give a boost to the site’s rank. I will be all over this when it is finally launched and I will let you all know my findings in a special report that will be freely available to you as a member of Your Service Spot. 6.26 Link Indexing This is a process that I have used in the past that has worked well. These days I don’t bother using the method as it is very time consuming (but it works well). I use linkliscious.me now. You can get a free account there and add 2500 links per day which is great. I have the paid version as I do a lot of linking work most days. The other way to do it is to create feeds at Icerocket.com. You will need to sign up for a new account (free) and then create a new feed. You can add titles to each link (which I recommend) and I only add a maximum of 20 links in each feed. It will look something like this:

When you have completed your feed, submit it to feedagg.com and other RSS directories or use software to do this like RSS Bot.
