Lake Barton Trail (Barton ak ke e Ba B rt ton no Tra ail (Ba arton County Lake) is located C L k ) i l d about four miles north of Great Bend on U.S. 281. Th e “lake” is actually dry and there is a two-mile trail that circles the former lake bed. It’s mostly fl at singletrack, but there are several short, steep climbs near the dam, and several side trails that off er more technical sections.

It off ers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. Th e trail off ers a number of activity options such as mountain biking, hiking and running.

Barton Lake was drained in the 70’s or 80’s and the singletrack takes advantage of the side slopes along the edges. Most of the trail is winding singletrack (some places have extremely sharp turns) and there are some challenging climbs.

Th e area is well maintained. Th ere are lots of old growth cottonwoods and cedar trees all around.

Th e trail is bi-directional, but the locals recommend clockwise, however some like to ride it counter-clockwise.

It is tucked down in the trees and is well protected from the wind, it’s a favorite place to ride in the winter when it’s too cold to ride Wilson Lake or road ride.
