Direct Entry

Undergraduate students can choose from more than 200 academic programs to study. OSU offers three different paths for international students to earn their bachelor’s degree: direct entry, Pathway programs and English language programs.

OSU provides direct admission to the university for international first-year and transfer students. Applying for admission is easy — you can even apply online.

Direct Entry If you meet the specified language and academic criteria you may apply directly to Oregon State University. If you do not meet these requirements we encourage you to apply to our Pathway or English language programs. Full entry requirements are on page 19.

English Language Program Our Academic English program is designed to help you improve your English and prepare you to begin your university studies. Once you have completed the required language level you will be able to start your Pathway program or direct degree. Learn more about English language programs on page 44.

Pathway Programs We have designed our International Year One Undergraduate Pathway programs to help you move successfully through the first year of your undergraduate degree at OSU. We provide you with extra support in and out of the classroom. Learn more about Pathway programs on pages 20-29.

Sample Program Length The chart below shows the approximate length of time our programs take to complete. In most cases, international students earn their degree in the same amount of time as domestic students.

Understand the Pathway Program Our International Year One Undergraduate Pathway programs combine intensive English language study, academic skills development and academic course work. They are carefully designed programs to help you through the first year of your undergraduate degree program. Joining our Pathway program will not extend the overall length of an undergraduate degree program. In fact, it will guarantee places in required courses, which may shorten the length of your program. 4-Term Pathway Our new 4-term Pathway program is designed specially for international students who want to start earning credits toward their bachelor's degree at a US university while improving their English skills.

1-Term or 2-Term Pathway This accelerated option is designed for students who have good academic grades and need little or no English preparation. Students can begin this program during the fall, winter and spring terms.

Pathway Programs Pathway Program for Undergraduate Majors (All Programs)

Available in fall, winter and summer terms (depending on your major), this program offers more focus on English language preparation than our other Pathway programs. Students are able to begin their academic studies with domestic and other international students sooner than our traditional Academic English plus Pathway programs had allowed. 3-Term Pathway Our 3-Term Pathway program provides an excellent balance of academic and English language preparation. This is ideal for most students and has start dates available in fall, winter and spring terms (depending on your major).

Direct Entry If you meet the specified language and academic criteria you may apply directly to Oregon State University. Pathway Programs We have designed our Pathway programs to provide you with a direct path to various graduate degrees at the university. These programs give you the academic foundation, essential language skills and GMAT/GRE test preparation to successfully move on to a master's degree program. Pathway Programs Understand the Pathway Program Our Graduate Pathway programs are the most supported and non-competitive route to a graduate program in an American Tier 1 research university. Joining this program will assure you admission to your graduate program upon successful completion of the progression requirements. These programs will give you the academic foundation, essential language skills and GMAT/GRE test preparation to successfully move on to your master's or doctoral degree. For sample curricula, please refer to pages 35-43. The courses listed in these grids are examples and subject to change. Decide if the Program is Right for You The Graduate Pathway program is ideal for international students who: • Desire to earn a US graduate degree • May need to improve English language skills and still earn credits toward their degree program • Desire additional academic, language and cultural support in order to succeed during the first year at a US university • May not be eligible for direct entry

Program Benefits • Up to 40 hours of TOEFL test preparation and GMAT/GRE preparation • Dedicated academic advisor and progression advisor to help facilitate transition to the university • Pathway peer tutors available to provide additional academic support • Assured and non-competitive progression to your masters program when you successfully complete the Graduate Pathway TOEFL, GMAT and GRE PREP TOEFL, GMAT and GRE test preparation are built into the Graduate Pathway program curriculum. Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The Graduate Pathway for MBA is designed to provide the academic foundation for students wanting to pursue an MBA degree. The MBA Pathway and the MBA program combined will take two to three years to complete depending on course load and specialization options. About the Program The OSU MBA program challenges students with a rigorous and hands-on experience. You'll be expected to collaborate with your peers and work in teams on real-world projects. You will experience working in small classes and groups with students from the US and around the world. The MBA program will develop your understanding of how sustainable business meets economic, social and environmental needs. When you graduate from OSU, you will be ready to make a positive impact on the world. Students who wish to earn an MBA at OSU must complete 60 graduate credit hours, which includes 15 credits of MBA Core I

classes. Students in the INTO OSU Pathway program will enroll in the Core I classes and have the opportunity to earn those 15 credits toward their MBA degree while in the Pathway program.

Integrated Business Project The OSU MBA supplements rigorous classroom instruction with practical, hands-on opportunities to learn by doing. Program Description The Visiting International Student Program is designed for students who want one or more terms of study abroad experience at a top US university. You will experience life on a classic American campus while taking a variety of credit-bearing classes. You will have access to all the support services available at the university, including exceptional one-on-one tutoring and social and cultural trips. Intensive English language courses are available but are not a mandatory part of the program. Course Selection INTO OSU has partnered with academic colleges to make a wide range of courses available to VISP students, including liberal arts, business, engineering, public policy and the sciences. Other courses may be available on a case-by-case basis.

Transferring Courses Courses taken are transferable in accordance with articulation policies of your home university. All courses taken as part of the Visiting International Student Program are credit-bearing (except intensive English language courses, if selected). You should coordinate with your home university to ensure courses taken through VISP are transferable to your degree. In-state Summer Tuition If you arrive during the summer to study in our VISP program, you will pay in-state tuition which means that it will only cost you about one third of normal tuition cost.

Working on Campus As an F-1 international student in language training programs (including Pathway programs) you are eligible for employment or practical training. Degree-seeking international students on F-1 visas also are eligible to work on campus for up to 20 hours per week while the term is in session and up to 40 hours per week between terms and summer vacations.

Resident Assistant Resident assistants are live-in staff in the oncampus residence halls. As an RA you will be a leader in your hall and will get to organize many events with your residents. You also are responsible for helping create a safe and inclusive community. In exchange, RAs receive a free room on campus, a meal plan and a paid stipend each term.

Curricular Practical Training If you would like to participate in a paid off-campus academic internship during your degree program, you may be authorized for Curricular Practical Training. Graduate Assistantships As a graduate student you may be offered a teaching or research assistantship on campus. Optional Practical Training F-1 students who would like to gain practical work experience in their field of study may be authorized for Optional Practical Training. This authorization usually allows graduates to stay and work in the US for one year after graduation.
