2nd Annual phati’tude African American Literary Festival 2013

The 2ND ANNUAL PHATI’TUDE AFRICAN AMERICAN LITERARY FESTIVAL is a day-long celebration of African American culture for an audience of all ages and cultural backgrounds, held during Black History Month on Saturday, February 23, 2013. This event is produced by the Intercultural Alliance of Artists & Scholars, Inc. (IAAS) and hosted by the Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center. Through workshops, panel discussions, poetry, musical performances, film, book sales and author signings, emerging and established writers will help the public understand how African American literature is an important part of American letters and world literature. This year’s theme is Celebrating Afro-Caribbean Poets & Writers, which will prominently feature 24 authors of Afro-Caribbean descent from the Anglophone, Francophone and Hispanophone territories. The event will also consist of 6 exhibitors, and approximately 1,500 attendees throughout the day.

The IAAS welcomes both financial and in-kind (books, hotel, travel, food) support. Below are the following benefits: n Reach a diverse group of people who respond to culturally sensitive events. As the most diverse borough, Queens is home to a myriad of potential customers/clients hungry for events and programs that celebrate their ethnicity, including college students forming their brand loyalty, and seniors with above-average disposable incomes. n Generate good will and positive public relations in the community. Your association with the Langston Hughes Community Library and phati’tude programming will generate good will with Queens residents and help contribute to the quality of life in the neighborhood through an event that provides a positive image of African-Americans. n Expand awareness of your brand/business through marketing and promotion. Your company logo will be prominently displayed on our websites (www.phatitude.org; www.theiaas.org and www.2leafpress.org) for six months; and on our social marketing websites FaceBook, Tumblr, LinkedIn and MySpace. We will also send email blasts to our 20,000 plus email list as well as deliver press releases to newspapers and online media outlets. Flyers and posters will be distributed to the Queens Library’s 62 branches and will be viewed by approximately 793,000 patrons. n Event Day Promotions.Your company logo will appear on the Festival’s official festival brochure, banners across the stage, and announcement emcee mentions. Your support of the 2ND ANNUAL PHATI’TUDE AFRICAN AMERICAN LITERARY FESTIVAL, Celebrating Afro-Caribbean Poets & Writers associates your brand/business with a community program that helps to illuminate the experiences, beliefs and values that unite us as human beings, through literature. The 2ND ANNUAL PHATI’TUDE AFRICAN AMERICAN LITERARY FESTIVAL seeks above all to foster a love of reading and writing, and to celebrate the world of literature among all people in our community. We hope that you will join with us and embrace the power and magic of words.

about the IAAS & Langston Hughes Library

The Intercultural Alliance of Artists & Scholars, Inc. (IAAS) is a NY-based nonprofit organization founded in 2000 to promote multicultural literature and literacy. The IAAS publishes phati’tude Literary Magazine, a quarterly, themed-based publication that contains the very best poetry, prose, short stories, essays, articles, literary criticism, book reviews and interviews of emerging and established artists with a focus on writers of African, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Arab and Asian descent. phati’tude Literary Magazine is available on Amazon.com and other online outlets. The IAAS’s other program initiatives include its publishing imprint, 2Leaf Press; the poetry reading series, “Real Poetry, Real Talk” and, panel discussions and workshops at cultural institutions throughout New York City and the Tri-State area. The Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center was founded in 1969 by a group of activists in the Corona-East Elmhurst community, the Langston Hughes Community Library became part of the Queens Library system in 1987. Today, it houses the largest circulating African American collection in New York City and is home to Queens County’s Black Heritage Reference Center, servicing readers and scholars alike. Moreover, in keeping with the community’s changing demographics, the Langston Hughes Community Library has expanded its resources for a multicultural constituency. The Festival will be held in the Library’s state-of-the-art building on Northern Boulevard in Corona, New York in the heart of Northern Queens.
