LOCATION: Toronto, ON

TOTAL SIZE: 1,504 ft²

TAILOR LOFT

LEVEL(S): Main Level and Mezzanine

The Tip-Top Tailor condo is located in downtown Toronto and it was once a textile factory for Tip-Top Tailor. This adaptive reuse project allows the homeowner to convert these lofts into their sanctuary.

CONCEPT

This unit is designed for a musician and an art curator couple. Based on the client's artistic lifestyle, the inspiration for the loft is derived from the simplicity of art galleries and Scandinavian interior. The repetition of raw material such as wood and concrete reflects Scandinavian culture and forms of nature. Also, within the unit, the simple spatial arrangement emulates the circulation of an art gallery.

PROJECT 02: MAZAGAN RESTAURANT

LOCATION: Marrakech, Morocco

TOTAL SIZE: 5,171 ft²

LEVEL(S): Main Level and Mezzanine

BRANDING: The restaurant material selection and branding.

The brand new location of Mazagan restaurant and bar will be situated in the city of Marrakech, where people can enjoy a casual dining experience of modern Moroccan cuisine.

CONCEPT

At the restaurant, Mazagan takes traditional Moroccan dishes and combine them with modern flavours. The goal of the restaurant design is to reflect the restaurant's menu contemporary twist on food. Elements from Morocco's architecture such as arches and patterns will be incorporated into the design. However, these elements will be simplified into modern forms to represent the restaurant’s modern influences. Within the concept, principles of continuity such as repetition and reflection are used in the design of the restaurant to create a continuous rhythmic progression within the space.

PROJECT 03: COMMUNITECH

LOCATION: Etobicoke, ON

TOTAL SIZE: 10,000 ft² Forth floor of Gulph-Humber Building

The design draws inspiration from Communitech original headquarter architecture and the process of working with others. The idea of progression comes from Communitech ability to provide service so that an entrepreneur is able to emerge in their industry. The design illustrates the development of linear forms and layers within the space. Elements such as the mullion and raw materials that are found within the new space mimic Communitech’s original industrial office. This represents an essence of growth by combining the old and new within the Communitech new office.

PROJECT 05: CHILDREN STEM EDUCATION

CENTRE

LOCATION: Toronto, ON

TOTAL SIZE: 20,000 ft²

LEVEL(S): Main Level and Second Level

In response to the rise of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs in children’s education, the design of the project is to reimagine educational centres that enriched student's creative process through innovative space, flexible classrooms, and collaborative work areas. This centre is where students learn new skills, share ideas and experiment with different projects.

CONCEPT

The concept of the space is inspired by the STEM process also known as the ‘Design Thinking Cycle’ where creation is central in the process and also at the centre. The idea of creation is an important aspect of the learning process because creativity brings student’s imagination into reality. In the project, the design centralizes around the Prototype Studio a space of creation where students are able to shape their ideas and collaborate on projects together.

The prototyping studio is where students can experiment with concepts they learn at the centre.
