“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “saw the cars going down the track I was hooked”
How did you get hooked into this hot rod, car , gearhead thing we all love so much?
got if you were a boy born in the “Baby Boomer” generation. Boy how I wish I still had some of those cars & trucks today!
I ask you this because I recently had some discussions with some friends, about how we used to run around together in our “cool cars” when we were much younger and with far less gray hairs.
The fire really got lit for me when my dad took me to a couple of different events. Living in the Midwest and in the Northern Illinois area, drag racing was big with US 30, Oswego IL and Union Grove WI. drag strips just to name a few, close by. The first time I saw the cars going down the track I was hooked and then to see and hear a NITRO DRAGSTER...WOW!
That running around with our “cool cars” you know Crager S/S wheels, air shocks (Yea you used them too) Cherry Bomb glass-paks and you know the picture. Got you thinking now don’t I.
Going to my first Rod & Custom show in Chicago further fanned the flames too. Seeing all that cool paint, chrome and more just made me want one of those cool cars even more.
But before that, something had to light the fire inside you to get you going about cars. What was it for you? If you feel like it, send us an email and tell us and we’ll share them because we think they’re cool.
Now it’s our turn to lite a flame and fan it for a kid, like was done for us. Indoor show season is starting, which show are you taking a kid too?
For me, when I was a little guy and far younger, I got cars and trucks to play with. That’s what you

The FRANTIC FORD Mustang Nitro Funny Car team had a great spring, summer and early fall race season. We had the privilege of bringing NITRO FUELED Funny Car fun to thousands of drag racing fans in many different cities, and at many different drag strips. Pretty hard to beat doing something you love! While we’re having nostalgia drag racing fun, another important part of our team’s mission, is supporting our chosen charities. We help them with our race team, as they help those who need a hand up.
As our Frantic Ford Mustang racing season drew to an end for 2017, it was time to load up and head to Keller Texas, for the 3rd Annual SSG Alex Viola Memorial Car Show. Not a short drive from New Jersey, but one definitely worth making. The car show benefits the SSG Alex Viola Foundation, established by long time friend and co-worker Frank Viola, to honor his son, Staff Sergeant Alex Viola from the 12
U.S. Army Special Forces, who was killed in 2013 while on active duty in Afghanistan. The show was held this year on Veterans Day 2017, very appropriate we’d say. By 6:30 AM, the show participants started to arrive in cars, trucks and bikes too. A little later in the morning, the crowds started to fill the square too to check out close to 300 cool cars trucks and bikes from the Dallas Ft. Worth area and beyond. The car community really supports this show.
This year's event featured the FRANTIC FORD FUNNY CAR making NITRO NOISE & Thunder for the crowd. We even had Frank's wife Peggy in the seat of the FF Mustang! Add in some of the cool local nostalgia Top Fuel cars, and ProMods, and there was some great drag racing fun going on all day long. An important part of event is the Live & Silent Auctions. Hosted by Pinstriper . 13
Extraordinaire Art Schiling and friends. Doing their brush magic in the pinstripes gallery, this years event raised over $30,000 dollars for the Alex Viola Foundation The Alex Viola Foundation (www.ssgalexviola.org) provides support for fallen and wounded special operations service members and their families. This past March, the Foundation presented checks in the amount of $10,000 each to the Green Beret Foundation and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation

Story / Photo’s by Butch Pate
With the shear number of car shows held across this great country of ours during the year it’s become increasing difficult to stand out amongst the crowd. Then along comes a show called, Hole in your Seat, like a breathe of fresh air and you know you have to check it out. After two failed attempts. the planets aligned, my plans fell into place and in it's third year I finally got to make the trek.
After an unexpected tour of the greater Crossville TN area, thanks to Google Maps, which was quickly corrected, after a quick phone call to some friends that got me turned around and headed in the right direction and to the show. Once I got parked in the spectator lot across from the show I had to sit for a few moments and take in the breath taking view laid out before me. I failed to mention to this point, that Hole in your Seat Car Show is held next to the Marina at Lake Tansai. A photographers dream, that had me asking myself more than once that day “Why aren’t all car show next to a lake?” 18
Mother Nature had threatened all week to make a shambles of the event but she turned out to be a big tease. On the morning of the show the clouds finally broke, the sun came out and the cars and trucks came rolling in. Mason Dixon and his crew were well prepared and handled the crowd of vehicles with ease. Local merchants made a strong showing of support at the show. A good variety of food to choose from (always important!) along with many different items for sale in the vendor area. The car show is an open show and all makes and models were well represented. The rat rod area had a strong turn out as well with a guest appearance by the one and only Rooster Mcgee. A pin up contest kept the crowd entertained while the car show was being judged and some of the nicest hand made awards I’ve ever seen were ready to hand out as soon as judging was over. A short cruise is held on Sunday but scheduling conflicts kept me from attending that part of this cool event. Watch the Gearhead Gazzette for dates for the 4th Annual Hole in your Seat in 2018 and make plans to attend. This is definitely a must see event! 19
