“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”
How Far We Have Come! Has, since that first event. From a basic drag racing inspired event to an all automotive genre event that fills the Las Vegas Convention Center and the ands Convention Center to hold the whole show.. The continued growth of the SEMA show reflects directly on the
From humble beginnings,
how far we have come….
As I write this, SEMA 2018 is taking place in Las Vegas. Yep I should be there but it did not work out for me this year to make the trip. I don’t have a worry about next years SEMA show...it will happen. Reason I say this, is our sport / hobby / business is in great shape. Our hoppy/industry started small with some very smart, talented and creative men. I say that with no disrespect to any of the women in our hobby today. Fact is back in the day, hot rod businesses were owned by men. Guys like Edelbrock, Iskenderian, Petersen and Parks, just to name a few, had the foresight to see the need for an event like SEMA. A handful of “hot rod” parts companies took part in the first SEMA. Held under the grandstands at Anaheim Stadium, it brought manufacturers and hotrod shops together. Fast forward to 2018 and SEMA has grown exponentially as the industry and hobby
strength of our hobby. It is a hobby, passion to each of us, but that love of “hot rods” drives the growth and strength of the industry that supports our need for parts. SEMA is “Industry Only” so everyone cant attend. We’re going to help with that as we will bring you some of the cool rides that were part of this years show in an upcoming issue.. Stay tuned...it only gets better..

They will be signing autographs from 11am to 3pm each day. Visitors will have chance to bid on a one-of-a-kind chronograph Ball watch made specifically for Save the Salt and author John Baechtel donated 5 copies of his new book "Goldenrod The Resurrection of America's Speed King" the help fundraising efforts.

‘NITRO REVIVAL’ RETURNS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN 2019 Irwindale Drag Strip Will Host Celebration of ‘Golden Era’ Dragsters and Drivers IRWINDALE, California (October 29, 2018) – Nitro Revival, an event created by Steve Gibbs, the former VP of Competition for the NHRA who was instrumental in the development of the Wally Parks Motorsports Museum and the California Hot Rod Reunion, will return next year to its southern California roots. Nitro Revival 3, featuring historic race cars, unique hot rods and the men and women who gave them personalities, will unfold on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the eighth-mile Irwindale Drag Strip, part of the Irwindale Event Center complex located in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley, northeast of Los Angeles. Working with his daughter Cindy and a core group of like-minded enthusiasts, Gibbs envisioned Nitro Revival as a “destination” for those who lived through the sport’s “golden era” as well as those simply intrigued by the era’s history and its impact. The basic formula adopted for the inaugural Nitro Revival at Barona Drag Strip near San Diego and extended for last year’s event at Weather Tech Raceway at Laguna Seca, two hours south of San Francisco, again will serve as the model. That means plenty of static displays featuring authentic and recreated period race cars including front-motored Top Fuel dragsters, fuel altereds and Funny Cars. Highlights will include a trip to Hook’s Hot Rod Hangout featuring period hot rods and street rods, continuous rolling push starts emblematic of the era and, finally, the Line of Fire, the simultaneous “fire-up” of vintage dragsters, altereds and Funny Cars that serves as the finale. A full schedule of exhibition runs by early style drag racing cars and motorcycles will be featured on the Irwindale eighth mile strip. In addition, there will be a special focus on the racetracks, race cars and racers that were active in the area during the 1960s and 1970s with particular emphasis on San Gabriel Drag Strip and the old Irwindale Raceway, both of which operated in close proximity to the current Irwindale Drag Strip. “We really want this to be a gathering of the drag racing clans,” said Gibbs, including followers of all of the bygone Southern California tracks, such as Lions, Pomona, Santa Ana, Fontana, San Fernando, Colton, Carlsbad. “We have such a rich history and legacy to draw from.” Numerous International Drag Racing Hall of Fame members are expected to attend. Gibbs spent 48 years at the NHRA where he served first as Advertising Director of National Dragster before later acquiring the nickname “Mr. Traction” for his work as Competition Director and later, VP of Competition. Earlier this year, he was honored by the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame which presented him with its Global Achievement Award for his efforts in advancing the sport worldwide. “Nitro Revival brings back the sights and sounds of the early days of hot rodding,” Gibbs said, “but it also serves as a reunion for racers from that era and it lets fans from every era experience a drag racing museum come to life. We loved the experiences at Barona and Laguna Seca, but we’re excited about coming to Irwindale.” www.nitrorevival.com-

If it’s Fathers day weekend, then you know it’s time for the HOLLEY National Hot Rod Reunion. The Hot Rod Reunion was held again this year at the BEECH BEND raceway. This track just oozes nostalgia and coolness, and just lends itself to the whole event. From the covered grandstands, spectator side with stadium seating, to plenty of shade, central location for the vendors, it’s an easy layout to get around to see everything.
The Reunion is about the racers . The racers who made the sport what it has become. These men and women who thru sheer will and determination, found a way to race and go faster, long before a computer was event thought of being a part of racing. These are the folks who are honored each year, as they should be.
The Reunion is about Drag Racing. REAL DRAG RACING. Dragsters and Fuel Altereds with motors in the front spewing NITRO out of the pipes. Funny Cars that LOOK like a car someone would have driven or is driving. Gassers with the nose up and the front wheels too when the tree goes green.
The Reunion is about cool pre-72 cars and trucks...lots of them! The grounds and some of the blacktop were covered 22
in a sea of color, chrome and horsepower. No matter where you walked or turned, there were cool cars of all kinds all around you. The Reunion is also hot!! It’s the beginning of summer and this year, mother nature turned up the heat and humidity all

weekend long. Participants and spectators took it all in stride, getting another cold drink or some ice cream to lower the temperature a little bit. New for the 2018 Reunion, was the Hot Rod Reunion Road Tour on Wednesday before the event. Starting at the race shop of the RAT TRAP Fuel Altered Racing Team in Spring Hill TN, and then winding thru the Tennessee countryside to a great lunch stop at TENNESSEE SPEED SPORT in Nashville TN. Donnie Eatherly and his team put out a great spread of good old Tennessee barbeque with all the fixin’s. After a great lunch and checking out all the cool stuff at TENNESSEE Speed Sport, the Road Tour participants hit the road north to Bowling green KY. An Ice cream stop in White House TN provided a nice place to take a break before heading into Kentucky and the last of the drive to Bowling Green. The Road Tour ended at the Bowling Green Hot Rods Baseball Team Stadium. The plaza area was turned into a cruise scene as the Road Tour participants and gearheads from the Bowling Green area came out for a BIG TIME!! The National Hot Rod Reunion will be back in Bowing Green KY in 2019 on Fathers Day Weekend again. The Road Tour will be back too so make your plans now to be part of the whole weekend of Hot Rod Reunion Fun!
