“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “ so much “hot rod” stuff on Facebook” Recently, due to an unfortunate situation, a LOT of gearheads and hot rodders witnessed the power of social media in action. The story we have on Ron Hickman in this issue is what I am taking about.

using your head and smarts, you can have a lot of fun and gain a lot of knowledge and new friends on Facebook.

INSTAGRAM is another social media app that’s out there and we use it. I describe it as Facebook without a lot of other stuff some people like to post on FB. Cool pic’s with short descriptions. Some really cool stuff on IG. Again making fiends thru IG is really cool too.

Ron’s accident and the story about it took off on social media. The story wasn't to talk about the accident, but rather how could people help Ron and his family in their time of need. Doing what we do here at the Gearhead Gazzette, we have our fingers on more than one form of “social media” applications. We do not use every form of it, but we do use the bigger ones.

The fun deal is getting to meet your FACEBOOK or IG friends in person. Every experience I have had so far is like a long lost friend coming back into my life. Very rewarding.

Email is the most popular form of social media and has been around the longest. People are comfortable is using it and have a high trust level of it. Heck if it weren't for email, a lot of you would not be readers of the Gearhead Gazzette!

I would encourage you to give social media apps like FACEBOOK and IG a try. You cant break anything by using it. You can always cancel it, if you want. Make new friends, enjoy more cool hot rod stuff than you can imagine and get it all for free...why not do it?

FACEBOOK is HUGE as they say. It grows everyday. There is so much “hot rod” stuff on FB, it’s hard to imagine not having an account. Contrary to what the “urban legends” say

Try it...you’ll like it...

OCT 2016: OCT 1-2: FIREBAUGH CA: 8TH ANNUAL HOT ROD GATHERING: 1/8th mile Runway Drag Racing. Honoring two very special guests who played a big part in the history of Fremont Dragstrip. Eves Tall Chief and Rich Welch were on hand during the Glory Days of Drag Racing at Fremont, with Chief handling the starting line and Flag Starting many greats (until the flag was ultimately replaced with the "Christmas Tree"), and Rich capturing these moments on film. See these two back in action on Saturday Oct

1st as they both enjoy "Living Drag Race History", and go back in time to perform their respective roles. Saturday race is a "TruStalgia" event with entries limited to 1973 & earlier, featuring Jet Dragsters, Dragsters, Altereds, Gassers, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Mini Bikes and MORE! All being Flag Started by Chief and Earl Boyajian. Saturday races are not timed, just good old fashioned "Run Whatcha Brung" Drag Racing. This event has brought out many vehicles that have been parked for years, vehicles you won't see race anywhere else in California, and celebrities who have come to enjoy the "time warp" atmosphere of the Eagle Field Drags. For fans and racers who don't want the good times to end, we open up the hangar after the races for refreshments and dancing while a local band plays on the Eagle Field Stage. Sunday morning we open the gates for the KBK Fall Finish Drags that welcomes all years of American vehicles. The KBK Fall Finish features Christmas Tree Starts with ET slips supplied to racers, "Open Grudge Lanes" for participants to "Run-for-Fun", and two "Heads Up Quick 8" categories featuring the quickest DoorSlammers in the Valley. The "Quick 8 DoorSlammer" category features entries that have a few rules to limit modifications, while the StreetSlammer category is more street-oriented, restricted to a 10.5 wide tire and no power adders. Please check www.eaglefielddrags.com for category rules. Check www.eaglefielddrags.com for the event schedule, entry prices, camping info, updates and special announcements. OCT 1-2: STOCKTON CA: STOCKTON BIG RIG TRUCK SHOW TRUCK R TREAT: Located at the Stockton San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. 1658 S. Airport way. Open 9am6pm. WANTED: David Tinsley of Rag Top Picture Cars has another special project and your car could... "Be A Star". Read here what is being requested and just think of the bragging rights..! Send all correspondence directly to David Tinsley. Read on..... I have a special request for a another fun project. I am looking for a 1967 Camaro (1967 Model Year Only) for a Chevrolet project that will be taking place in downtown Nashville on either October 31st or Nov 1st. This is part of a 50 Years of Camaro Celebration. They would like the artist to be able to drive the 67 Camaro about 100 yards and pull up to the red carpet and get out. Really an easy deal. They prefer something relatively stock or slightly modified, nothing to radical or heavily modified. The owner will be more than welcome to hang out, watch, and be part of the team. Their car will be fully insured and there will be some compensation. Again this is part of a celebration for Chevrolet's 50 years of the Camaro so it should be fun and will give someone with the right car special bragging rights and a chance to showcase their car. Thanks again everyone for all your help. Please e-mail me a couple of pictures of your 67 Camaro for the video producers. Thanks, David Tinsley E-mail: ragtopman@comcast.net Phone: 615-579-3799 66
