We’d like to congratulate George Poteet for winning the 2019 America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award for his 1936 Ford roadster, built by Pinkee's Rod Shop. The competition was as stiff as ever, 14 entries in all going for the BIG Trophy, and we were impressed with all top level hot rods in the running. We would also like to congratulate all of the other entrants in the AMBR competition, simply stunning vehicles and the judges had a very tough job!. The ROD SHOWS team put on another awesome event. The 70th “Grand Daddy of Them All” is in the history books, so make your plans now to be at #71 in 2020. If you couldn’t make it to the show, check out our Facebook and INSTAGRAM coverage from throughout the event. We will be running a number of feature stories about the show in upcoming issues also.

So just what is a Hot Rod Hulabaloo?

If you look up Hulabaloo in Miriam Webster Dictionary, you will see “Uproar”. Other dictionaries define it as a “Fuss”, “Fuss” and a few other things too. We’d have to agree, that the Hot Rod Hulabaloo is all that and more. The HRH makes a big “FUSS” over all the cool cars and trucks that come out to the event. The HRH has a big “UPROAR” when the downhill races are going on because they are so much fun to watch and cheer the racers on! The Hulabaloo is this and more.

Photography by John Greenfield Story by Jimmy B

The Hulabaloo is a cool event but more importantly it is a fund raiser for Shelby’s Way Suicide Prevention Foundation, run by Mark Cain. Hulabaloo weekend starts with a cruise in the night before at the world famous Parkette Drive In in Lexington KY. Early attendees for the event make there way to the Parkette for some great food served by car hops(yes still today!) and t turns into a car show with all those early birds cruising in. 22

23

Show day sees all kinds of fun going on. All those kool hot rods and customs turning out for the show. The always popular Miss Hulabaloo contest, BBQ/ Mexican cuisine, the Hot Wheels drag races for kids that are 12 and under, show souvenirs, Danny Dean and the home Wreckers were playing live music keeping everyone's toes tapping and the world famous Hoodlum Downhill Race. This one is one great Hot Rod Gathering during Labor Day weekend. Being that this is a fund raiser for Shelby’s Way, you would think that there would be an entry of some kind….WRONG! The show is free to attend for participants. The donation bucket is out and monies are also raised by selling show shirts and other collectables from the event. Too. As some were heard to say as the day wound down…”A LARGE Time was had by all!” Make your plans to attend the 2019 edition of the Hot Rod Hulabaloo over the Labor Day Weekend, and you too will be able to say that you had a large time too! 24
