The other competition going on this weekend is the competition for The Legend Cup. This award and the BIG Check that goes with it, is for the BEST entry shown for the first time ever at the Chicago Show. Friday sees the TOP 20 named and Saturday morning sees the awarding of the SELECT SIX entries. Then on Sunday night, the Legend Cup winner is announced. Past Winners include Bobby Alloway, Troy Trepanier, Steve Tracy and Troy Ladd. Who will win this year? We will have all the coverage for you on our FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM pages so check them out starting Thursday March 5th as we show you set up day and show coverage all weekend long.

As I write this, I am prepping to hit the road again for the upcoming weekend. Next Stop is the Chicago World of Wheels show in Rosemont IL. This event and trip marks the last stop on our un-official winter road tour. It all started back on January at the Chattanooga World of Wheels show. We traveled to Chattanooga TN, Nashville TN, Pomona CA, Birmingham AL, Detroit MI and now we will wrap it all up in the Windy City. We have logged a ton of miles and even more gearhead smiles so far this winter. We anticipate more gearhead fun at the Chicago show too!

If you have never been to the Chicago World of Wheels show, you owe it to yourself to go. This is a fantastic car show in a great location. The vehicles on display each year are world class as show producer Harry and Cheryl Willett work hard all year long to make sure the show is better than the year before.

The 58th Annual Chicago World of Wheels show looks to be a great event. Looking at 700 plus cool cars truck and motorcycles on display. Add in the ISCA Grand Finale event going on at the same time, bringing the best of the ISCA competitors to Chicago to see who gets crowned GRAND CHAMPION.

NMCA Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout Continues The National Muscle Car Association will continue its popular Dodge // MOPAR HEMI Shootout program in 2020 with the support of sponsors Vortech Superchargers and Arrington Performance. Boasting more than 100 Gen III HEMI-powered vehicles at many of its races — most of them in the Dodge // MOPAR HEMI Shootout — the program is the quickest-growing segment in the NMCA. Open to 2005-and later Gen III HEMI-powered Challenger, Demon, Hellcat, Charger, 300, and Jeep vehicles, the program provides complimentary car and driver entry to the first 75 registrants at each of the NMCA’s six events. The RIDLER Award...only presented once a year since 1964, to honor Don Ridler, who was instrumental in starting the Detroit Autorama with the MHRA. It’s easy (yea right!), you start with 800 or so entrants at this year’s Detroit Autorama, look at them and then narrow it down to the top 8 vehicles (The Great 8)in the show and then judge, look judge again, look again...and then select the single best-in-show winner of the RIDLER Award. The winner of the 2020 RIDLER Award and the $10,000 top prize, sponsored by Meguiar’s car-care products is a radically customized 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air station wagon ...appropriately named IMPRESSIVE. The 1963 Chevy wagon built by the fatherand-sons team of Brad, Brady, and Cory Ranweiler was VERY IMPRESSIVE. What’s so impressive about this two-box family hauler? Its tasteful elegance; its long, sleek lines; its conservative use of bright accents; its magnificent leather interior; and, most of all, that brilliant black paint job. That black paint wasn't just brilliant, it was LASER STRAIGHT! The Ranweilers’ livelihood is their Show Cars Automotive business, in New Ulm, Minnesota, which sells restoration parts for 1958– 64 Chevy Impalas. In 2010, Brad Ranweiler declared the moment was right to customize the 1963 Bel Air four-door wagon rattling around their business. The father’s creativity and inspiration, blended with his sons’ hard work and dedication, turned into a decade of effort. Add up their hours of sweat and contributions from sympathetic suppliers and you’ve got a trophy winner they estimate is worth $2.5 million. Not much of the original car survived the journey to what you see on these pages. The chassis is a custom design by Art Morrison 24

Enterprises on a 121.0-inch wheelbase with Uni-Steer Performance and Chassisworks electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering. The front suspension is a control arm design, while the live Ford rear axle is located by four trailing links. Evod Custom Industries manufactured the gorgeous 8x18-inch front and 12x20-inch rear aluminum wheels shod with Pirelli radial tires. Wilwood supplied the 14inch disc brake rotors and calipers. A 409-cubic-inch Chevrolet V-8 was bored and stroked to 509 cubic inches, in-house. Edelbrock aluminum heads with Hilborn electronic fuel injection, David Walser nose cone air cleaners, and a Joe Hunt Magnetos billet distributor yield 615 horsepower and 685 lb-ft of torque. The multi-layer valve covers provide the clearance needed for the roller rocker arm valve train and a means of hiding the ignition wires. GP Headers built the 2-inch headers and 3-inch exhaust pipes out of stainless steel. The transmission is a GM 4L80E automatic supplied by TCI Automotive. Griffin Thermal Products supplied the custom radiator and cooling fan components. The stainless steel fuel cell is by Rickâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Tanks. By the time the body shell was switched to a more svelte two-door configuration and channeled over the new frame, only snippets of the OEM factory sheet metal remained. The hood is new, the Dynacorn International front fenders are welded in units with the main shell, bumpers are modified for a tighter fit with their surrounding sheet metal, and the roof is altered. Dropping the roof height three inches and relocating the B-pillars rearward necessitated totally different pillars, glass contours, and bright trim components.

The grille began as a 1000-pound chunk of aluminum but ended up as 69 separate barand-surround pieces. When a dozen or so parts farmed out to fabricators returned with expensive invoices attached, Cory Ranweiler signed up for a two-week training course to polish his CNC machining skills. This allowed him to craft the next 320 metal parts totally in -house. The greatest challenge, according to Brady Renweiler, was perfecting the black paint job, which is precisely why that color was selected from the beginning. Brad Renweiler brought to the party 40 years of painting experience and challenged his sons to aim for perfect surfaces before the first drop of PPG paint was sprayed. The sanding and polishing process lasted years. A chunk of aluminum measuring 6-feet long by a half-inch thick, wrapped with sandpaper, eliminated any hint of waviness in the long side-body panels. M&M Hotrod Interiors created the black, burgundy, and chrome inside trim. Evod Industries machined the steering wheel parts as well as the custom tail lamp rings. The billet switchgear came from Watsons Streetworks, and the custom instruments are by Dakota Digital. Advanced Plating applied a sparkling finish to the custom trim parts, which were made by the Ranweilers. The incar entertainment system is by Kenwood USA and Kicker Performance.

Thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s no doubt that the creative force behind this project exceeded some ambitious goals. The boys made their father proud and vice versa. Their Ridler win proves it was IMPRESSIVE and a decade very well spent. If you didn't get to see IMPRESSIVE at the Detroit Autorama, then head to the Chicago World of Wheels show March 6-8, 2020 as it will there to compete the LEGEND Cup.

THE RIDLER Award….every year many gearheads head to the Motor City with high hopes of being chosen the BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST in the world with their latest vehicle build. Some have labored many years, let alone many many hours to make the cut. 2020 was no different. Many came to Detroit with big dreams of seeing that 8 ft tall GREAT 8 flag in their display. Reality is only the 8 BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST had their dreams come true. The 2020 GREAT 8 Finalists was a very diverse group as compared to years past. It included hot rods, customs, and muscle cars too. Let’s let the GREAT 8 Show themselves off right here….while they didn't get the RIDLER, they did get very close. Congratulations to all!
