“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”
“put a wrench on every nut and bolt“ “What are you doing in your garage these days…” As this issue is coming together, we are almost into February. Before we know it, spring will be here and depending on what part of the country you live in, the weather will be right to break those cool cars and trucks out of their winter slumber. Yes we know that those of you in the warmer winter climates never have to park yours for a while….lucky you. Whether we want to say it out loud or not, our garages are our happy place. Admit it, when you are there, the rest of the world disappears. Turn on your favorite music and enjoy the vibe. What are you working on in your garage these days? The Covid-19 issue has kept us closer to home. Your opinion on the Covid deal is your opinion, but the fact is it has affected all of us and what we do each day. The garage is our safe zone, our happy place. Again...what are you working on in your garage? Email us some pictures and we will run them in upcoming issues. Do you have a new car or truck project going on? Are you just updating your current ride?
Are you helping a friend at their garage? If you aren't doing any of the things I have talked about here, there is one that all of us need to do before we start running down the road in our favorite cars and trucks. GIVE YOUR VEHICLE A ONCE OVER BEFORE YOU HIT THE ROAD!!! Sometimes things come loose and that could lead to problems down the road. Don’t let something like loose bolt or night ruin you fun in your car. Get under you vehicle and put a wrench on every nut and bolt to make sure they are tight. Yes it’s a bit of a pain to get under the car, but worth the pain. Don’t want to do it yourself, give you local reputable hot rod shop a call and they will be glad to help you out. May cost you a few bucks but then again what’s your life worth. Get ready...car fun is straight ahead gearheads More Fun In 2021

Inaugural American Speed Festival Set for September The first American Speed Festival (ASF) will be held at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan on Sept. 30-Oct. 3, show organizers announced. The all-new event will showcase automotive engineering and design, as well as celebrate driving at speed, and motorsport competition. With more than 200 automobiles drawn from OEMs and collections around the world, ASF will combine world-class auto exposition with live racing action on M1 Concourse’s 1.5-mile road course, Champion Motor Speedway. “The American Speed Festival will bring together the best elements of the automotive world into one place this September,” said Tim Hartge, chief marketing officer of Pontiac Motorsport Exhibition (PME), the promoter of the new event. “The advantage we have of doing this event here at M1 Concourse is that people will be able to see, and hear and be up close to some of the greatest performance and race cars in the world.”
“This is not a static car show. This is an all-encompassing event that will delight all the senses of any car enthusiast.” “We’ve studied some of the best automotive events around the world, and we’re taking the best elements of all those shows and bringing them here to M1 Concourse with the American Speed Festival,” said Dave Sherman, interim chief executive officer of PME. “This will truly be a celebration of racing and performance, and we will have experiences and elements that will appeal to everyone from eight to 80 years of age.” Each year, the American Speed Festival will have a featured class of cars and honor a legend of the industry. The featured class will be the legendary Can Am race cars from the 1960s and 1970s, and the first “Master of Motorsports” award will go to Motorsport Hall of Fame racing innovator Jim Hall, who is scheduled to attend and be part of the event. The American Speed Festival will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 30 with an exclusive “Dine and Drive” event throughout Metro Detroit. Thursday evening’s Motor Grille will be open to the public. Friday and Saturday will feature high-speed on-track activity. Friday evening will be a special “ASF Garage Reveal” event that will bring together the drivers, owners and industry insiders for an evening of fun and bench racing. Saturday evening will be the Checkered Flag Ball to benefit the Checkered Flag Challenge, a new 501c3 supporting organizations that are changing lives in Pontiac. Sunday will feature the American Speed Festival Exposition, a judged competition of the best of the best car classes during the weekend, and a chance to enthusiasts to get up close to some of the greatest cars in North America and the world. 8
US Shift Offers TPS System Kits For Carburetor Fed Engine Platforms Mixing older technology with newer technology is not something that is “modern” by any stretch of the imagination. In many cases, this is actually a step up toward a higher goal down the road. In the case of Throttle Positioning Sensors (TPS) and Carburetors, it seems the two would never meet on the street. TPS was something common to electronic fuel injection systems. Baumann Electronic Controls’ US Shift division has simplified the technology gaps to allow late-model electronic transmissions to work seamlessly with OG carburetors. US Shift offers TPS kits that work with Edelbrock, Holley, Street Demon, and other carburetors. Racers have known that carburetors offer great wide-open throttle response, many times better than electronic fuel injection systems. Tuning these carbureted race applications turned out to be easier with things like TPS in the system. You can think of the TPS system as something similar to the carburetor’s mechanical accelerator pump and cam system. Knowing when to give that extra spray of fuel when the demand is there to prevent engine stumble. The challenge was getting the mechanical technology to work with electronic technology. For street applications, using a TPS system with a carburetor is common when a modern electronically-controlled automatic transmission is involved. These transmissions require a TPS signal in order to control line pressure and kick-down (downshift) under increased load demand. US Shift has the answer with their TPS kits. Advantages Of US Shift TPS Kits: Non-contact electronic Hall-Effect sensor designed specifically for under-hood throttle position sensing applications. Provides consistent performance over the life of the vehicle and won’t wear out or become intermittent like other throttle position sensors.
Attractive and durable heavy-gauge bracket and sensor lever constructed of 304 stainless steel alloy enables consistent and stable sensor operation and won’t rust. The aesthetically-conscious design provides an integrated look and appears to be part of the carburetor. Extremely fast and simple installation with no need for alignment or adjustments. Air horn-mounted design allows removal and re-installation of carburetor without disturbing TPS voltage settings. Stainless steel hardware, including self-locking sensor mounting screws and actuator cable assembly, provides trouble-free performance and lasting beauty. The cable-pull design allows mechanical compliance for silky-smooth operation and eliminates sticking and binding. High-Temperature PTFE sensor lead wiring with thin, attractive, fiberglass braid covering and high-temperature, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated wiring connection harness with sealed connector is unaffected by under-hood temperatures and moisture. Generous 7 feet of wire length eliminates the need for unsightly under-hood splices. Compatible with any transmission controller or data-logger. Backed by a 3 Year Warranty.

It’s been a rough last 10 months or so for car shows, especially indoor car shows….to say the least. As 2021 approached, all of us were holding our collective breath, that with a little luck, we could return to some level of gearhead normalcy. After the new year Well as we now know today, it’s still going to take a while to hit that normalcy in 2021. One of the early casualty's is the 2021 Grand National Roadster Show. The weekend of January 22-24 should have seen thousands of hot rod and custom car lovers flooding the L.A. County Fairplex to check out everything that is the Grand National Roadster Show. This issue of the Gearhead Gazzette should be including the 2021 America’s Most Beautiful Roadster winner and coverage of all AMBR contenders….but it doesn't. The ROD SHOW Team led by John Buck made probably one of the toughest decisions they have ever had to make about the show by cancelling it altogether. They had tried to move the show to the middle of May, but when they could not get clear direction from 22

governmental leaders in control of the Fairplex, and thinking of all the participants planning on showing a vehicle, they made that hard decision. KUDOS to them! They weren’t going to have people head to the show from around the country, and the world on a “maybe it will happen’” situation. Since we don’t have any 2021 coverage from the GNRS for you, we thought why not take a look back at the last few years of the storied event. We don’t always have space to include as many shots as we would like, so we’re taken this time to show you more of the last three years of GNRS goodness as we captured it. The Grand National Roadster Show will be back on the 4th weekend in January 2022. We’ll be there when they open the doors to all that hot rod fun.
