Crosscutting recycled plastic with Salvador
Berry Global has increased production of its recycled plastic garden furniture with a Salvador SuperAngle 600 automatic crosscut saw from Daltons Wadkin.
Berry bpi manufacture a wide range of innovative packaging solutions and engineered products focused on the circular economy. As one of Europe’s largest plastic recyclers the company is proud to produce its own brand of plastic wood, Plaswood. The material is a sustainable, durable and maintenance free alternative to traditional materials and demand is increasing rapidly.
Daltons Wadkin are a leading supplier of industrial machinery for processing wood, plastic, composites and metals. Specialising in woodworking machinery, CNC routers, fibre lasers, panel saws and automatic crosscut saws, the Salvador brand has been a key part of their portfolio for over 15 years.
Berry Global approached Daltons Wadkin for a crosscutting solution to help boost productivity, reduce waste and improve operator safety in the production of their range of recycled plastic picnic benches, outdoor seating and other garden furniture products. Having worked with similar material before, Sales Director, Andy Walsh, had no hesitation in recommending a Salvador. “The SuperAngle 600 is a highly versatile programmable crosscut saw capable of working with a range of materials including plastic wood. We are receiving a growing number of enquiries from customers with similar applications and the Salvador has proved highly effective.”
The Salvador SuperAngle 600 is capable of crosscutting material at any angle between +/- 75 degrees. In-feed capacity, loading and unloading options can be configured to suit individual applications. Berry bpi specified a left to right working orientation with automatic in-feed chain loading, 120m/min pusher speed and automatic out-feed collection area to ensure continuous uninterrupted production with minimal operator input. As with all Salvador crosscuts, the SuperAngle 600 features cutting list optimisation as standard, reducing any waste to absolute minimum.
Key to Berry’s decision process was product performance and aftercare. Daltons Wadkin has long recognised the importance of supporting high production installations and is proud to boast one of the industries largest team of engineering field service technicians dedicated to remote and onsite customer attention.
As an ISO 14001 accredited business, Daltons Wadkin continually monitors its own environmental impact through its Environmental Management System.
Managing Director, Alex Dalton, is pleased with the recent uptick in plastic wood production. “The efficient use of recycled plastic for garden furniture is great to see. The material solves a lot of the inherent issues with traditional materials when used outside and distributes recovered plastic into a long term solution.”
