INTRODUCTION

At the end of the life cycle, the site provides promising opportunities for ecological rehabilitation and energy self-sustaining. Progressive Rebabilitation We use waste rock, overburden topsoil and any MOE approved clean fill to shape gentle slopes to maximize light intensity for vegetation growth. With the seeds of different species collected on the site, nurseries are built to cultivate species at risk in Ontario for conservation, and native species for commercial use. It can raises sufficient funds to help rehabilitation. The program on the site provides a demonstration place for researchers and visitors. Self-sustaining Energy Meanwhile, during the progress of rehabilitation, solar photovoltaic program will be installed at the sunny slopes to maximize light density based on site’s solar zenith angle. The generated electricity is used to satisfy regional needs in the future. By utilizing this renewable energy, it raises sufficient funds for progressive rehabilitation and nursery. Driven by gravity, a water canal is created to connect two lakes on the site, as well as for irrigation use.

SORAUREN MEMORY New Sorauren Avenue Park Design Time: Nov - Dec 2014 Adviser: Prof. Pete North, University of Toronto Solo work

INTRODUCTION

Upon futher investigation, seemingly mundane and ordinary city spaces can reveal themselves as complex places with rich histories. This project chose a small neighbourhood park, Sorauren avenue park, which locates in the west end of Toronto, to test this concept. This design focused on the culture and history of Sorauren park, and then adopted orthogonal strategy to mimic town streets, and use history and culture elements, especially industral elements, to reorganize program spaces. A steel structure was designed to enhance the sense of boundary of the town square, which is adjacent to community centre, and set up lighting to generate a night program space. According to the circulation, gentle slopes were designed to shape a geometric topography to deal with run-off water, and gather the run-off water to the lowest point connecting to the out-let pipe. The square, also can be used as a skating field, by taking the advantage of run-off water.

MEANDER CITY Allen Road Redux Time: Nov - Dec 2015 Adviser: Prof. Rob Wright, University of Toronto Solo work

INTRODUCTION

This project is the final stage of Superstudio, which aims to redux Allen road, testing the idea of urban design. In the earlier idea phase, I worked with two Architecture student and came up with the idea of Parallel City. This idea is trying to high densify Marlee Ave, which is parallel to Allen road, to build a destination to remit the traffic issue on Allen road. Using the meander open space strategy can stitch Marlee and Allen together, and provide pedesitrian, cyclist and vehicle commercial streetscape. In the redux phase, I keep the idea, and use buildings typologies, openspace typologies and street typologies to design this urban fabric, distribute programs into this Meader City.

SERENE OASIS Tonglu City Park Design Time: Sep - Nov 2012 Adviser: Prof. Yunlan DENG, Zhejiang University Solo work

INTRODUCTION

Tonglu is a typical tourist city of Zhejiang, South of China, well-known for its amazing landscape and fine art. The Tonglu city park locates near the Civic Centre and the Great Theatre, making itself an essential open space in downtown of Tonglu. This project aims at renewing the city park and turning half of the existing square area into a natural park. Furthermore, creating a central lake to deal with surface runoff issue. Renewing of the waterscapes can add more programs to meet residents’ needs. This city park also demonstrates the great history and culture of Tonglu by using sculptures, landscape nodes, art gallery.
