Techsys Strategy: Twitter Account Proposal A SHORT HISTORY ON TWITTER Founded in 2006, Twitter started out as a text message service that allowed users to quickly communicate with a small group. Six years later, Twitter has evolved into a global service but their core value is still to ‘simply bring people closer to their interests’.

TWITTER EXPLAINED Twitter is a social networking and micro blogging service, allowing anyone to read, write and share messages. Twitter is made up of 140-character messages called Tweets. Besides sending and sharing messages, information/news, photos and videos on the internet can all also be shared by Tweeting the relevant web link. The short format of the tweet is a defining character of the service, allowing informal collaboration and quick information sharing. Twittering is also a less gated method of communication – one can share information with people that wouldn’t normally be exchanged over email or instant messaging, thus opening up a circle of contacts to an ever-growing community of like-minded people. Your Tweets are displayed on your profile page, on the home page of each of your followers and in the Twitter public timeline (unless disabled in the account settings).

BENEFITS OF TWITTER Arguably, Twitter has numerous benefits that serve to benefit both individuals and brands/organizations in various ways. Listed below are some of Twitter’s most obvious benefits: 1.

Concise: Due to the 140-character limitation, naturally Tweets have to be short and to the point – if done correctly, the structure and content of a Tweet can have great impact on its audience. An outstanding tweet will be noticed by your followers, and in most cases, would be retweeted by them or Tweeple (the Twitter community) within the Twittersphere.

2.

Public conversations: Twitter gives everyone the option of making discussions public. This cannot be done with e-mail, and is difficult to accomplish on a blogging platform. Twitter presents the user with three exchange options – make a tweet general/public; select the followers or audience you want to communicate exchange with; make a direct private exchange

3.

Immediacy: Twitter allows one to quickly exchange (comments, questions, and opinions) with a large group, response time would be relatively fast compared to other existing methods of exchange. Also, through “retweeting,” a message can reach a large number of people who aren’t on your follower list. This brings new perspectives to the conversation and presents the opportunity to discover people you wouldn’t have otherwise met.

4.

Retweeting: The power of a retweet is vast, and should not be overlooked. When someone retweets your tweet to their followers, it magnifies your reach and often recruits new followers in the process. Sending provocative messages that others retweet is a great way to build your following and your contact list for information-gathering and promotion.

5.

Discovery: Twitter is a most efficient mechanism for discovering interesting information. This discovery process is not unlike scanning the pages of a newspaper, but it’s much faster and more encompassing. Also, you know that comments and recommendations from certain people will be of particular interest to you, so you have the option of drilling down on individual profiles to see what they’ve been saying recently.

6.

Searchable: If you want to find out what people are saying about you in real - time, services like Twitscoop and Monitter are able to instantly track mentions of you, your company, product, industry and save them 3

TWITTER STRATEGY To be successful on Twitter, Techsys Digital needs to remain current by keeping up with current trends and remaining ahead of the curve in the industry. Monitoring the latest trends should not only be limited to what the latest Anroid application development is, but also be fun – like doing a Techsys Harlem Shake video to post on YouTube, or societal based - supporting relevant causes such as 16 Days of Activism Against Women. To maintain a relevant and current brand presence within the Twittersphere and other social media platforms alike would grow and strengthen Techsys Digital’s brand equity. Techsys should not just be a black, blue and green logo, our followers, audience and clients should immediately see a brand that is relevant to industry, but also very human with character and spunk. Thechsys’ Twitter account should be managed by one person, but with input from the team and Andrew with regards to content etc. The reason being that everyone has a unique style of thinking and communicating so to avoid multiple voices on Twitter, one ‘voice’ should be used. Also this would ensure that Techsys’ Twitter personality/character is kept uniform and constant.

TECHSYS DIGITAL TWITTER TIMELINE To follow through on the strategy discussed above, Techsys should tweet about the following: • • • • • • •

Advertise job opening at Techsys Digital Share our thoughts/opinions about latest trends relevant to industry Keep up to date on newest technologies and trends within our industries - tweet web links on articles, news bulletins , videos and photos Follow strategically to increase reach and followers Office activity - post photo’s, announce new staff/interns, birthdays, achievements, team events, team building exercises Post links from the Techsys’ website(blog) on self published articles* (See https://www.realmdigital.co.za/blogger/linda-jooste/) Andrew needs to set up a Twitter account and interact with @TechsysDigital, and vice versa **

TWITTER MANAGEMENT TOOLS To manage Twitter effectively, one needs to constantly keep track of mentions, interactions and trends all at one time. Tweet Deck caters for all of this and more. It has an easy to use interface, and more than one Twitter account can be linked to it at a time. Tweet Deck also manages can also manage Facebook accounts, essentially providing monitoring for Facebook and Twitter simultaneously. There are other monitoring tools available such as Hootsuite, but Tweet Deck seems to have the best offering available.

NOTES * Could Techsys Digital set up a blog portal that is on the website? Viewers would then also be exposed to our website and could view projects and interact with the brand ** Andrew’s interaction as the MD of the company on Twitter is important because it puts a face to a name, and in this case a face to Techsys Digital. Interaction would not be a duty, it can be done at random or where appropriate.
