Vadhanshu Gehlot 29.09.1999

I am a fourth-year undergraduate architecture student from Aayojan School of Architecture. Being born and brought up in a building construction background, I have been fascinated by buildings and the materials in which they function. This inspiration led me to choose architecture as a career. Architecture is not just creating buildings , but a multifaceted approach to solving problems. A process where technology and philosophy come together, is what I want to explore along with a hands on practical approach. This portfolio contains work from the last three years of my architectural academic period which reflects my approach towards the design. I’m a highly motivated , creative and resourceful person who is good at working in a team or independently. I am seeking position as an intern architect in your reputed firm, where I can showcase my abilities in the field of architecture and to obtain knowledge under your guidance at a professional level.

The Brief required us to design a Forensic Science Laboratory run by govetrnment. A Forensic science laboratory is a scientiďŹ c laboratory specialising in forensic science. Such laboratories may be run by private companies or the government but are often associated with the law enforcement infrastructure of a country.

The design needed to understanding thet importance of service network & its allocation in a building coordinating different networks with architectural comprehension and Modulation of space and using the multiplication of such modules in evolution of built environment.

The objective of the design was to integrate building services in a multifunctional built spaces, Coordination of various networks into a functional physical model

A stepwell or ‘Joda’, subterranean edifice and water source, an architectural form particularly in arid regions, used for drinking, bathing, irrigation of crops, etc. The joda descends six levels below the ground, 3.5M deep and 33M wide, enclosed by 0.9M high and 0.49M thick boundary wall. The 4 chhatris with joda at its heart has an arched entrance. It is constructed using the locally available materials, peeladi and safed mitti.

The Joda was built 120 years ago. It was built by the Rajputs but later on taken over by the merchant families (Baniyas). In the distant memories, it was built to overcome the shortage of drinking water and for the collection of rainwater.

aayojan school of architecture jaipur

A shell structure is a thin curved membrane or slab usually of reinforced concrete that functions both as structure and covering. Hyperbolic parabola are doubly curved shell structures. They are often referred to as "Saddles".their name stems from the fact that their vertical cross-sections are pa parabolas, while their horizontal cross

Prof. Ravi Mena sections hyperbolas. It is a doubly ruled surface ,meaning that for each point, there are two such lines on the surface passing.

Advantages The form is used as a means to minimize materials and increase structural performance while also being capable of achieving impressive and seemingly complex designs. Thin shell roofs gain strength through their shape

The columns can be constructed by brick masonry by incorporating reinforcement into the same. This process of placing reinforcement in brick masonry will help in the increase in the load bearing capacity of the column. Special grooved bricks are employed that will have the provision for the placement of the reinforcement.

Footing Reinforcement

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

year 2

Excavation Excavation for foundation was carried out manually using mattock and hoe. A square of2m x2m was setout on the ground and then excavated. The excavated surface was level led and finished using water level tubeand trowels.

Soling Soling was done by bricks and rubbles stones. Stones of size about 25mm were laid closely to get a well packed layer and the layer is then compacted

structurel lab

P.C.C. Bed Over soling plain cement concrete (PCC) is used to provide rigid impervious bed to RCC in foundation where the earth is soft and yielding. Concrete og grade M20 was mixed and Conc used to cast PCC bed.

Reinforcement of Column The position of column was marked on footing reinforcement. Longitufinal bars were first tied to footing then stirrups were tied to the vertical bars.

Shuttering of Footing.

Concrete filling Concrete mix of grade M20 was made to cast footing of thickness 0.15M.

Curing : Water was poured on PCC bed for 7 days to cure concrete.
