Meet your Scranton care team: Kevin Colleran, MD
Orthopaedic surgeon
Dr. Kevin Colleran is a Scrantonraised, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who most enjoys seeing his patients progress. “I consider it an honor to help someone get past a problem that’s very significant and return to living the life they want. I think many of my patients appreciate being treated by someone who is from the area, too,” says Dr. Colleran, who sees patients with mobility-impairing conditions like fractures, sprains and dislocations. Specializing in shoulder surgery and joint replacement procedures, Dr. Colleran has served Lackawanna County residents for 15 years. But that service extends beyond his medical practice — when he’s not donning his white coat, you might catch this father of four coaching local sports.
Jeffrey Gillette, DO
Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Gillette is a Peckville native who returned to northeast Pennsylvania to care for the community where he grew up. “What I love most about this area are the people,” says Dr. Gillette, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee, hip and shoulder surgery. Dr. Gillette developed his passion for orthopaedic surgery during a summer internship at a local hospital and returned to his Lackawanna roots after completing medical training. “This community is so close-knit. In orthopaedics, you have a variety of patients from young athletes to older folks with arthritis. The treatments we offer help them return to doing what they love and have been missing.”
Shazad Shaikh, MD Orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon
Dr. Shazad Shaikh is a fellowshiptrained orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon who comes to Scranton by way of Texas, where he worked with several professional sports teams, including the Houston Texans, Astros, Rockets and Dynamo. He also treated astronauts at the Johnson Space Center and athletes at the 2016 NCAA Final Four. Dr. Shaikh is currently the head team physician for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and assistant team physician for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He aims to treat all his patients with the same highquality orthopaedic care that professional athletes receive. “It’s a pleasure helping patients get back to their activities, whether it’s playing in the next big game or running around with their kids. It’s a very rewarding experience.”
Theodore Tomaszewski, MD Orthopaedic surgeon
Dr. Theodore Tomaszewski is an avid outdoorsman and family man who’s devoted the past 20 years to helping Scranton and its surrounding communities heal. A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Tomaszewski treats patients with mobilityimpairing conditions such as fractures, sprains and dislocations, and specializes in hip and knee joint replacements. “I chose orthopaedic surgery because the procedures we do have a direct impact on the patient’s quality of life — and their family’s, too. We routinely deal with conditions that affect daily lives such as walking, working, self-care and spending time with loved ones.”
Meet your Scranton care team: Justin Tunis, MD
Chad Walker, DO Rheumatologist
Primary care sports medicine specialis Dr. Justin Tunis enjoys outdoor activities in his native northeast Pennsylvania, and finds great enjoyment in seeing his patients being able to return to their own athletics and healthy endeavors. “In my field, I mainly see individuals with acute injuries which limit their activity,” says Dr. Tunis, a fellowship-trained, boardcertified primary care sports medicine physician who specializes in nonsurgical treatments of musculoskeletal injuries. “It’s extremely rewarding to see those patients improve and be able to get back to doing what they love — whether that’s a high school sport, a college sport, a professional sport or simply getting back to healthy activity without being burdened by pain.”
Dr. Chad Walker is a northeas Pennsylvanian, born and raised. He’s also a fellowship-trained, board certified rheumatologist driven to help patients live their best lives. “Rheumatology sparked my fascination,” says Dr. Walker, who has cared for Scranton-area patients with conditions such as lupus, arthritis, gout and inflammatory muscle diseases for nearly 10 years. “The diseases rheumatologists encounter often involve dysfunctions of the immune system that cause different physical signs and symptoms. I find it very rewarding to help diagnose and treat these patients,” says Dr. Walker, who serves as president of the Lackawanna County Medical Society. “The field of rheumatology has significantly advanced to offer us many different treatment options and help people with lifethreatening illness live longer, better lives.”
