Course Leader Biographies Colin Campbell Colin is a GDC registered Specialist in Oral Surgery who qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1994. Colin has worked previously in oral and maxillofacial surgery units in Glasgow, Nottingham and Derby, before entering practice as a vocational trainee and then becoming a vocational trainer. Colin became involved in implant dentistry as a clinician in 1998 and began lecturing in 2000. He was awarded Fellowship of the International Team for Implantology in 2006 and was the Communications Officer for the UK and Ireland section: sitting on the Leadership Team of the organisation from 2011 – 2014. Colin is the Clinical Director at The Campbell Clinic, which is a multi-disciplinary private specialist practice in Nottingham and also the Clinical Director of Refine Specialist Dental Care in Derbyshire. Ulpee Darbar Ulpee is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and is on the specialist lists in Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology, Prosthodontics and Endodontics. She is Divisional Clinical Director of the Eastman Dental Hospital and also the Lead for dental implants at the Eastman as well as being Clinical Tutor for the trainees and Programme Director for the Dental SHOs. She graduated from University of Wales College of Medicine in 1986 and after a brief period in general dental practice started her hospital career in 1987. She successfully completed her training in Restorative Dentistry 1996 and took up her consultant position in 1997 including the role of Clinical Lead for the Department of Periodontology. Shortly after being appointed she also lead the academic training programme for 1 year. Since her appointment she has held several leadership positions at the Eastman which have included Clinical Audit Lead, Lead for Referrals and Programme Coordinator for Specialist Registrar. Ian Dunn
Liverpool Dental Hospital in the periodontology department where he is currently a Senior Clinical Teacher and Undergraduate Teaching Lead in periodontology. In 2010 he completed his MSc in periodontology and in 2013 he was admitted to the GDC specialist list in periodontics.

Ian spends three days a week in private practice in the North West of England and takes referrals for all aspects of periodontology. He is the British Society of Periodontology regional representative for Merseyside and Cheshire.
More recently, Andrew passed his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Andrew also works as a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Oral Surgery at the University of Manchester.
David Furze
Khalid Malik
David qualified from Cardiff University in 2000 and joined the Royal Army Dental Corp. He attained the rank of Major with postings including Germany, Bosnia, Brunei and the UK. He completed initial surgical training in the Royal Surrey County Hospital and then joined private practice. He has since completed further postgraduate training at Kings College London in Prosthodontics. David’s implant training has also included a fellowship at the University of Berne, Switzerland.
Khalid qualified from Glasgow University in 2000, having won the class medal in prosthodontics. He is a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons and, following accreditation, gained consultant posts in restorative dentistry in Birmingham and Peterborough.
David has published extensively in the areas of aesthetics in dental implants, immediate loading of dental implants, ceramic implants and digital dentistry, he has also published multiple research papers in peer reviewed international dental journals. His work has been presented at the European Association of Osseintegration congresses in Athens and Copenhagen and he has also presented at the ITI World Congress in Geneva. David lectures both nationally and internationally on both the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implants. He has recently lectured in France, Switzerland, Latvia, Dubai and Oman as well as lecturing in the UK. David is a founder member of The Byrnes Implant Study Group, the BDA and SAAD (Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry). David’s practice is now restricted to advanced prosthodontics and dental implants. Away from dentistry, David is a keen rugby player and snowboarder. Andrew Legg

For over 20 years Michael has led the way for implant dentistry in the UK, becoming one of the world’s most respected and renowned implant surgeons. His considerable portfolio of research has been groundbreaking and he is one of the most sought after lecturer’s in his field.

Course Leader Biographies In 2007 in recognition of his expertise in the field of implant dentistry, Michael was given the prestigious honour of being made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, without examination. Michael is on the Executive Council and Board of Directors of the Academy of Osseointegration and in 2005 was inducted as the 75th Fellow of this premier international implant organisation. Michael is also a Past President of the ADI and in 2011 was made an Honorary Life Member.
Francis Nohl Francis is a specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Newcastle Dental Hospital, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dental Sciences, Newcastle University. He trained in medicine followed by dentistry at London University before undertaking postgraduate training at the Eastman Dental Institute in London, and Newcastle University. Francis leads the implant team in Newcastle; responsible for service delivery and specialist registrar clinical training. He has been teaching throughout much of his career and is founder and Degree Programme Director of the Diploma in Clinical Implant Dentistry at Newcastle University, and examiner and board member for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a very active clinician undertaking both surgical and prosthodontic aspects of implant dentistry. Francis has co-authored several textbooks. Rob Oretti Rob qualified in 1987 & after working in an orthodontic practice for 4 years came to Newbury in 1992. Rob is co-clinical director of Pentangle Dental Transformations and has built a reputation for aesthetic treatment of complex cases involving cosmetic, implant & orthodontic treatments. In 2002 Rob became an implant tutor for a dental corporate and has taught many dentists on all aspects of implant therapy. Rob has published several articles on implant therapy, is a mentor and faculty educator for the ADI (Association of Dental Implantology), an international speaker for the ITI (International Team of Implantologists), and is a Royal College of Surgeons examiner for the implant diploma (RCS Edin).
Phil Ower Phil qualified from King’s London in 1978. He joined the RAF after qualifying and was a general dental practitioner until taking an MSc in periodontology in 1992, after which he was RAF Adviser in periodontology and ran the RAF School of Dental Hygiene. For 10 years he worked alongside the renowned Bernie Kieser at the Periodontal Practice in London and now practices exclusively at the Briars Dental Centre in Newbury. He has been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MGDS) and has served two terms on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology (BSP). He is responsible for the perio component of the FGDP(UK) Diploma in Restorative Dentistry in both London and Manchester. Amit Patel Amit is registered with the General Dental Council as a Specialist in Periodontics. His special interests are dental implants, regenerative and aesthetic periodontics. Amit graduated from the University of Liverpool and completed a 4 year specialist training programme in periodontics at Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Dental Institute. Amit obtained his Membership in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and became a registered Specialist in Periodontics. He has worked with several different implant systems, lectured both nationally and internationally and published in the field of dental implantology and periodontics. Amit is also an Associate Specialist in Periodontics at the Birmingham Dental School. He has recently been invited to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Amit is also the principal specialist and director at Birmingham Dental Specialists.
Isabella Rocchietta Isabella graduated in dentistry at the University of Milan, Italy. She was then awarded a scholarship from the department of
Medicine, University of Milan, to train as a clinical and research fellow at the Department of Periodontology, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA. Isabella is currently is a lecturer for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry at The Eastman Dental Institute, UCL, London as well as being affiliated with the Department of Biomaterials, Institute for Clinical Sciences, The Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where she conducts clincal research in the field of implantology and bone regeneration. From 2002 to 2011 she has been instructor at the Department of Periodontology, University of Milan, Italy and research consultant for the Institute for Dental Research and Education (IDRE). Currently elected member of the board of directors of the EAO (European Association for Osseointegration) and Chairman of the EAO Junior Committee from 2007 to 2011. She is co-editor of the European Academy for Osseointegration journal, Inspyred, and reviewer for the main scientific journals. Author of several international peer reviewed publications and book chapters and International speaker on bone regeneration, bone grafting with growth factors, tissue engineering, soft and hard tissue neoformation with autogenous living cells, osseointegration and implant protocols.
Shakeel Shahdad Shakeel is a Consultant and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at The Royal London Dental Hospital, and Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is the Chairman for the Advisory Board in Implant Dentistry for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology and a Diplomate of The British Society of Oral Implantology. He is also the current Chairman of the ITI UK & Ireland Section. He is a specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Endodontics. Apart from the specialist restorative treatment, his areas of particular interest include aesthetic implant dentistry and management of complex restorative cases including functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of patients with hypodontia and toothwear.

Jonathon Schofield Jonathon, the founder of The Dental Implant Clinic, graduated from Bristol University in 1986. He has over twenty years of experience in the field of dental implantology. His training has been in the UK, Switzerland and Germany. His particular interests are implants in the cosmetic zone – making implants imperceptible from natural teeth. Jonathon lectures throughout the UK and internationally on dental implant matters. He is a part-time Senior Lecturer at The University of Bristol and a Fellow of the International Team of Implantologists (ITI), which is a group of academics and clinicians who are dedicated to research and teaching in implantology. Until 2007 he sat on the national committee of the A.D.I. (Association of Dental Implantology).
David Speechley David restored his first implant in 1990, well before they were mainstream and when there were few (if any) recognised training pathways in dental Implantology. In 2003 David gained his diploma in medical informatics from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, and became a part time lecturer at both Liverpool University Dental School, and Liverpool University Medical School. More recently he has become a postgraduate dental tutor for the North West (Mersey) Deanery, the Dental representative for Levers Ethics Committee, member of the Local Dental Committee, and past Treasurer of the Association of Dental Implantology. Over recent years David has mentored many dentists in the practice of implant dentistry, and is a registered mentor for the Association of Dental Implantology, and the ITI, (International Team for Implantology).Following completion of both the Post Graduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry, and MSc. was invited to become a member of PEERS. David is a member of the Faculty of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons England
President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry, Paul now divides his time between operating private referral clinics in Manchester, Chester and London and teaching other dentists the skills and techniques needed for a successful career. A passionate and charismatic speaker, Paul has been teaching for over 20 years, both in the UK and internationally. Over 2,500 delegates have attended his courses to boost their skills, knowledge and income.
Ltd. He is a Senior Lecturer in implantology at the University of Edge Hill and is the Academic Lead for the MSc in Dental Implantology. He lectures nationally and internationally for Astra Tech, Straumann, the ITI, Mersey Deanery, and on the MSc courses at Salford, Manchester, Cardiff and Sheffield. Simon also has a keen interest in teaching and is a trainer for young foundation dentists and nurses. He has written many courses for nurses and dentists, and has gained his Postgraduate Teaching Certificate and Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy. He has personally trained and mentored over 500 dentists and nurses. He was awarded with Best Young Dentist of the Year (NW) in 2010-11 and Best Independent Contractor on the Wirral in 2009-10 (this was against all providers of NHS care including Medical Doctors). Simon is the Education Director for ICE Ltd (Implant Centres of Excellence). This consists of an educational academy; the ICE institute, a network of clinics; the referral centres, and ICE Association; support and interaction.
Cemal Ucer Cemal is on the specialist list of Oral Surgery. He is an elected Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and Honorary Professor and Clinical Lead of the MSc programme in implantology at University of Salford (2008-2015) and at Edge Hill University (2014-). He is also a past president (2011-2013) of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI). He is a co-founder of the ICE Foundation that incorporates Implant Centres of Excellence (ICE) clinics, ICE Postgraduate Dental institute and ICE Mentee School/MSc programme in implant dentistry. Cemal has been running the highly respected Multi-System Implantology Certificate Course at Trafford General in Manchester since the early 90’s where he has personally directed the postgraduate training of 100’s of dentists. He has lectured widely in implantology since the 1990’s and runs a private referral practice limited to oral surgery. Simon Wright Simon has been a principal partner of the Glencairn Dental group of practices since 2002. He is a Founding Director of both Dental Implant Resource Ltd and Implant Centres of Excellence
