BEGGER’S
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome, As we get ready for another year, we look back at a year that certainly had its ups and downs. Mother Nature along with our leadership certainly put agriculture and the world in a position that squeezed us both financially and mentally. Although it’s trying at times, the world will keep turning and the men and women that feed the world will prevail. Although we all have moisture on our minds, we as farmers and ranchers know that when it rains that we are in the position for great times ahead. The cattle prices are in very good shape, all classes of cattle bring excellent returns. Grain farmers likewise are seeing very good commodity prices. We all know Ag is not as easy as it is perceived by much of the world. As I look back at the markets through the fall and into the winter, calves have sold very well. Light calves brought a lot of dollars per pound, heavy calves still seem to bring $150-$200 per head more. Pay weight is still king. Cross breeding is without a doubt profitable and offers big rewards. In today’s tough times a cross bred calf offers all cattlemen extra income potential without any extra cash out lay. I struggle to understand why anyone raising commercial cattle would not crossbreed. Many straight bred British cattle are offered a chance to raise $100-200 per head more income just by crossing with another breed. You will be surprised how many less small calves show up at the weaning pen. We ourselves see a 50 lb plus difference in our Sim-Angus sired calves over the straight Angus. The Simmental breed is very aware of the industries’ needs at all levels. Calving ease, mature cow size, and the ability to convert feed and go on to the packing industry and out to the consumer. Beef is whats for dinner, and the majority of the world knows it and craves it. This set of bulls have been as consistently good and powerful as we have ever offered, absolutely packed with calving ease,

performance, eye appeal, and profit potential. Whether you are looking for a herd sire or a consistently powerful set of bulls, we have them. I encourage you to go check out other programs, we feel you won’t find a more powerful even group that are made like you like them. These bulls are bred to survive the tough times and excel in the good times. They are the cowman’s kind, they will sire replacement females that thrive and steers that excel from birth to weaning and onto the feed-yards and the consumer’s dinner plate. When you sell your calves these bulls will sire pay wt and value. They will help eliminate small under wt calves that need to be held back or cut out. We welcome your visit pre-sale or anytime you are passing through. If you can’t make the sale, we have a video online at DV Auctions, view it, and then call us, let’s make a plan and go over the offering. We guarantee sight unseen purchases when you consult with us, if you don’t like them, you don’t own them, that simple. I have never been more confident in a set of bulls we have ever offered. Likewise, the industry is setting itself up for great times ahead. When it rains again let’s be ready with the genetic value it will take to bank extra profits. We wish each and everyone a Happy New Year, rains that are timely, and grass that waves in the wind. Whether you need a bull or not come take a look, have dinner on us, and enjoy our hospitality. For bulls selling for $3,000 or more, we will offer free keep of your bull until the first of April. At that time we will semen test and give your bulls a breeding exam and deliver them free of charge up to 500 miles. For bulls that sell for less than $3,000 we will feed them and have them semen tested for $150 due on sale day. We will help in delivery arrangements. The bulls will be delivered to your ranch or in some cases when there are multiple owners of cattle on the truck and there is a need to unload and sort cattle, we may ask that you meet us at a central location that is convenient to both parties. For cattle selling over 500 miles away, we may have to hire a trucking firm to help with delivery, if so, we will guarantee delivery cost not to exceed $300 per bull. In most cases, we will deliver them ourselves, but occasionally we will put the bull on a commercial truck that is reputable and conscientious. For purchases of cattle a long distance away, we ask that you be flexible on delivery dates in case we have the opportunity to send your bull your direction earlier than April 1st. When purchasing a bull from Begger’s Diamond V Ranch, we take responsibility in delivering a healthy, breeding bull. We will take responsibility of injury or death loss while the bull is on our ranch. Responsibility of your bull purchase begins when he reaches your ranch or delivery point. GENOMICS WITH COW SENSE There is a lot of hype out there about EPDs, Genomic Testing, and Carcass Traits. We strongly believe in the use of all of these genetic enhancement tools. We also know that you can ruin a good cowherd in a blink of an eye if you chase paper traits with no directive or focus put on the mother cow and what it takes to keep her in production with as few inputs as possible. There are breeding programs that only provide EPDs with no actual data. Be careful, at times these cattle might not offer a total package, the upkeep, loss of production, and lack of fertility may cost more than the rewards. Every breeder has the actual data, we believe that as a customer you deserve to access it, if it isn’t there, ask for it. Any competent breeder shouldn’t be afraid to share it. Raw data such as actual birth weights, 205 wts, 365 wts and performance data and indexes allows you to observe how an animal has performed within his contemporary group. It shows you his potential to sire calves that may increase or decrease certain traits. There are way too many cattle out there with excellent EPDs and dollar indexes that are not worthy of anything but a castrating knife. You can breed for all the highest EPDs and indexes in the world, but if you sacrifice COW EFFICIENCY, FOOT AND

LEG STRUCTURE, FLESHING ABILITY, MENTAL, MATERNAL, and PHYSICAL TRAITS, such as UDDER QUALITY, along with an animal’s ability to produce PAY WEIGHT and EYE APPEAL, all you will gain is a cull cow with good EPDs. When I wrote this paragraph many of my fellow breeders and industry associates considered me as an EPD and Index hater. This is not true, we use EPD’s and Indexes the way they should be used, with an open mind and as one of many tools. So often I watch breeders and cattlemen get so wrapped up in a chase to produce that bang-up sale topping bull with the elite EPD profile, that they fail to watch cow efficiency and structure. Many times the structure and total performance will lack. Folks if all you had to do is add up th numbers, breeding cattle would be easy and everyone would be equally successful. What I notice about EPD’s, they are constantly changing because their accuracy level is low. Don’t dwell on them to be the total answer, use them to increase or decrease traits that you want to change, like with a bell curve the biggest or lowest numbers are not always the ultimate goal.
SPRING SIMMENTAL BULLS
THE SPRING BULLS
These spring born bulls are exceptional this year. Our calf crop ran 40 strong to the bull side, so we had the opportunity to use the knife very hard. I can assure you if they even had one little flaw, no matter what, he was a steer. I don’t believe we have ever offered a set any stronger. We decided if we wouldn’t use them in our commercial herd why would our customers want to. Come take a look, do compare, I believe you will be impressed. Times are tough, expenses are high. We feel these bulls are right for the times and will offer the genetics to propel you in the right direction, they are a powerful group. They are very quiet natured, thick, and easy fleshing, profit driven, and as uniform as you will find. They are ready for your appraisal. They are a blend of EPD’s, common sense and an experienced eye that ensures every bull will deliver value, no matter how you market your calves.

We used Guardian for the first time this year, these calves came very easy, they had excellent vigor, and performed above our expectations. When it comes to cattle that check all the boxes on paper, Guardian is one to use. It certainly did not stop there! This bull puts together a very nice performance package. His dam is no slouch either, always raising the right kind.
This bull’s 2 year old dam knocked it out of the park, way out. Who says you can’t have it all, one who says a 2 year old can’t keep up. There is so much good to offer here. Fleshing ability is at the top of the list, no melt down in this bull’s dam, perfect uddered and strong throughout. If you want it all, put an extra hash mark by this Lot. We used Flat Iron on heifers for calving ease, but got way more, these cattle just wreak with volume and thickness. I don’t know if I could change this bull much, he is a knock out.

A true eye catcher, so smooth, so complete, another home run on a 2 year old heifer, crossed with Flat Iron. The same old story, big volumed, and big time performance. This guy is good enough to go anywhere.
Cattle like this will get your blood pumping, this Top Shelf son is a perfect reason why we are so high on his sire. His dam is no slouch either, there is power running through her veins. A picture perfect cow with a picture perfect udder doing a top notch job as a 3 year old.

Looking to add length and disposition along with performance, here you go. Like the Favor sons that lead the sale, he likewise offers pay weight. His dam is a very nice, super uddered cow that is sensible sized and a calf raising machine. Use him on deep bodied cows and look for a great set of calves.
What a great bull calf out of a very good 2 year old dam. I may sound like a broken record, but this set of bull calves out of a very powerful set of 2 year old heifers sure make it fun to calve heifers. The real excitement is at weaning and all winter long when they turn into bulls. No doubt he will add class and performance to his calf crop. Don’t hesitate to put a group of these Flat Irons together. They will keep your cattle moderate in size and classy, you won’t be disappointed.

This Flat Iron is moderate, deep, and thick. Only 79 pounds out of a 2 year old dam that put her heart and soul into her first calf. This bull is for the cowman that like to keep his cattle moderate framed and sensible sized at maturity. Use him to sire excellent replacement and calving ease. He is thick, quiet natured, and well balanced.
I don’t know if you can pack more thickness and depth into an animal. This bull is absolutely thick, wide, and moderate. The Gipper calves surprised us at how light they are at birth, but that didn’t stop them from performing very well. I recommend using this bull on cows with a little more frame. If you like them thick, moderate, deep, and easy calving, this bull will fit the bill. He just takes your breath away with his sogginess, I put a lot of stars by this one.

Here is a calving ease bull that will add some body shape. I believe you could use this bull on a set of heifers with good success if you check them, and they are well developed.
For you folks that follow EPD’s, you may want to put your business hat on here. This Guardian son has the highest API in the entire offering. It don’t end there, he is extremely high calving ease and low birth with excellent growth and top marbling and rib eye. This is not your everyday calving ease bull with good numbers, he has a lot of eye appeal and body shape. I feel that his cow family will separate him into an excellent choice to use on seed stock or commercial heifers that are well developed. He is more than just a good set of EPD’s.

Use him on any cow and add eye appeal with good performance. He should work very well on Angus or Baldy cows, his daughters will make real neat type cows.
This guy will sire a great set of calves when used on British bred cows. He has got the power along with the EPD values that make him genetically one of the bulls that fit most of the boxes. He is out of a 2 year old heifer and the Guardian bull that was the $85,000 bull in the bred for balance sale. This bull was weaned very early in life so he probably had even more weaning potential. We are starting on a new pen of bulls and we chose 7J to lead the way. These Flat Iron’s seem to get the job done, they are deep, thick, and wide. 7J offers a lot of performance in a moderate package. He is out of very efficient 2 year old Pay Weight daughter. They have a lot of rib shape and volume, with plenty of base width. This bull offers fleshing ability and performance in a flashy package.

This Gipper son certainly packed a punch at weaning with a big 112 weaning ratio. He comes out of a high performance cow that always does a top job. He covers a lot of bases, as he will add length and power along with real good growth. His carcass values are very interesting with excellent rib eye and marbling numbers. All and all, he adds value galore.
I truly like this one out of Gipper and a Boise daughter, going back to Pioneer. He should sire excellent replacement heifers that are long and strong. He should keep birth wts in line and sire top calving ease. His steers should feed very well and their carcass values should be top notch.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM
BEGGER’S DIAMOND V RANCH GENETICS Our goal is to offer the best when it comes to total profitability. When we select our genetics, we consider all the avenues in the beef business. First of all we look at what will keep you the cow-calf man profitable. Things such as calving ease, fleshing ability, udder quality, disposition, and phenotype, along with mature cow size, and their ability to raise a calf that is worth more at sale time, and is efficient. Producing cattle that the feeders and packers desire. How do we select our genetics? We use EPDs, dollar based Indexes such as API and TI and eye appeal, along with the ability for an animal to be productive, wean a satisfactory calf, breed back on time, and have the ability to use the feed source that our environment provides. We try to run our cows in the same way that most commercial outfits run their cattle and the cows are still in excellent condition. We believe that the API is a valuable tool to
consider, but feel that it is simply a guideline, and like all EPDs and dollar indexes, should be used as a way to split the difference between a choice of 2 animals that appear to be alike. It is just one equation that needs to be considered along with an animal’s performance, eye appeal, and ability to survive in its environment. When you purchase your seedstock, take the time to look at your suppliers’ cow herd, what do they look like, are they functional, what is their udder quality like, what is their frame size, and do they calve easy, stay in shape, and do they produce a high percentage of their body wt. We consider it all and believe we offer a good solution and end point. Come take a look, we will have the majority of our cows available to observe, so you can see for yourself what you can expect your cowherd to look like if you use Begger’s Diamond V Ranch genetics.

Here is a Top Shelf son out of a stout Range Boss daughter, I believe this should be a superb genetic package. We really enjoy how easy keeping the Range Boss cattle are. Top Shelf just shines when it comes to sensible frame size and performance that pays.
This Top Shelf is a lot like his brothers. He has a 102 index on weaning and looks to be a moderate easy keeping bull that should produce sensible sized calves from birth all the way to maturity, but still adding the ability to produce pay weight. Who says that we don’t offer excellent quality all the way through our sale. Here is a younger bull with excellent performance throughout. Born light at only 80 lbs, and excelling to right at 700 lbs at weaning. He is backed by a real deep bodied easy keeping dam with a superb udder and the powerful Conoco bull that is siring them deep and moderate in size. I believe this bull’s daughters will be his greatest asset.

Out of a nice 2 year old Half Nelson Sim Angus Flat Iron. He is thick, deep, and moderate, light at birth, with decent performance. Use him to thicken up a set of cattle that could use more volume and width. He will sire a real nice set of replacements that are moderate and easy keeping.
Here is a Conoco son I like a lot. He is very clean and stylish, he has that look that catches attention. I believe this bull will do everything right, calve easy, sire calves that perform well at weaning, and on feed, and sire daughters that make your mouth water. Yes his daughters will be a true asset, moderate, thick and deep with a very stylish look.

This bull is an eye pleaser, very well balanced with a ton of eye appeal. These Franchise cattle are moderate and eye catching good, they will add fleshing ability. This bull is out of a 12 year old dam that always did a good job, she is bred up again to calve early. Stay ability and longevity is excellent in this cow family.
We are in a pen of bulls that carry extreme calving ease and light birth. This bull certainly has the potential to be used on heifers, his sire Gipper is proving to be a calving ease specialist that offers very good performance to boot. We purchased him for his outstanding performance but found him to be a true heifer bull. So this spring and next fall we will calve a bunch of heifers to him.

This bull just amazes me, he is not ever going to be a big bull at maturity, but he absolutely appears to be a real performance machine. Only 70 lbs at birth and excelled to weaning just missing a 700 lbs 205 wt. I believe he will calve very easy possibly even on heifers. What I truly feel is he will sire moderate framed cattle that can stay in condition even under extreme conditions. Use him to add volume, fleshing ability and eye appeal. Hs is probably only a 4 frame bull made like a full back and should sire cattle that can stand the tough times.
This baldy bull is easy on the eye, very clean made with a real eye catching appearance. He is one of the youngest bulls in the offering, but certainly offers a very good genetic package. His cow family is very efficient and are very good uddered. Top Shelf will only add to that efficiency. If you like baldies, don’t over look him, he is good.

SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR USING YEARLING BULLS
We are firm believers in the use of yearling bulls and feel it is one of the best years of their lives. It is a time when they are easy to manage and their only concern is breeding cows. We have found that yearling bulls that are managed carefully during the second year of their lives, not only do well, but they will perform better, over time. Below are some suggested guidelines for the care of yearling bulls.
Upon delivery to your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenance ration of 5-8 pounds per head of grain and free choice hay. Reduce the amount of grain fed gradually, so that bulls are on straight hay or grass 2-4 weeks prior to the breeding season.
Where possible, try to limit the bulls to 45-60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time or as soon as possible, remove the bulls and put them in separate pastures with plenty of good quality grass. It is best to feed yearling bulls separate from older bulls until after their second breeding season. This allows them to achieve the growth and strength to compete with older bulls for feed and space. You will see the benefit of a little added cost and care of feeding a yearling bull by probably two or three more years of service from a well managed and healthy bull.

Here is a nice calving ease candidate, low birth bull that could be used on heifers that are watched at calving. He is out of the calving ease specialist Boulder and a very nice moderate cow family that always seems to be light at birth. There is also some very good cow power under the hood here.
Here is a real nice made Rainfall son that is out of a 2 year old dam. This just might be the sleeper in the sale. He has a great cow family behind him and his sire SAV Rainfall has become the calving ease bull of choice. Our observation is very positive with Rainfall. He sires them very good.

QUICK GUIDE TO ASA EPDS AND $ INDEXES Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in: All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak.
18
Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score. $ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a+50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes.
FALL SIMMENTAL BULLS
THE FALL BULLS
This set of all bulls are a powerful group, they were all born on the range, checked once a day, even the heifers. All calved unassisted and were never creep feed. They ate what their dams ate and never saw a pampered moment. We weaned them March 14 and fed them a low maintenance diet that never pushed them. In late May they went to pasture and were run strictly on grass, no supplements, mid September we moved them close to home and fed them a low 40 megicale diet. These bulls were never pushed and we believe they will be very sound throughout their life time. This is a set of bulls that we worked through several different times and only the cream of the crop were kept. We sorted them for anything we could. You won’t find any bad temperaments, bad feet, or low performance. When you get them home turn them out, they will be ready for whatever you give them. They are the cowman’s kind. We never ran a gain test on these bulls, so we will provide an actual weight in late November.

What a big asset. Weaned at 852 pounds, indexed 118. His Angus dam certainly carried her weight here. It is no accident with Ignite as his sire, you can only expect the best when it comes to performance. You can rest assured there is power running in his veins.
Here is a big time bull. He is out of one of our biggest bodied stout made cows. He is a real trooper, weaned at 829 pounds and certainly shows why. He is long, deep, and loaded with power. If you like them big and quiet to be around, here is a great herd bull prospect.

This set of Banjo bulls are all bred for profit. They excel in eye appeal and are clean made cattle that any buyer will appreciate. Eye appeal and excellent performance is what buyers appraise cattle on. This bull is loaded with both. His dam is a high volume, deep bodied cow with a ton of fleshing ability.
Now here is a light birth wt bull, out of a 2 year old dam. We used Journey for his excellent calving ease, and his ability to keep cattle moderate and thick. He certainly will control mature size yet sires cattle that grow well and females that have excellent udders and mature into sensible size cows.

THE COST OF LIGHT WEIGHT CALVES AT BIRTH I saw this article in Sydenstricker’s catalog, and thought this article was quite interesting, and spot on to what we observe. Breed Associations still believe a lighter calf at birth is better and calculate that in their EPD’s, and dollar Indexes. We feel many of the real small have problems in the cold and at times with their lungs, and definitely they show up small at weaning time. No, we don’t like the huge born either, but on cows there is more rewards than losses with 90-95 lb calves. Many of us have a predisposed notion that we want calving ease/low BW herd sires. But, in the Angus breed, do we really have that much problem with big calves? It seems like most of the problems at birth are more linked to abnormal presentations than actual calves that are too big for the cow or even heifer. And, it seemed like maybe those smaller calves just were not as thrifty. We decided to see if we could dig into the data, and see what survivability to weaning really looked like. After all, a small calf at birth doesn’t really help the bottom line if he dies prior to weaning anyway!
We divided up four years of spring calf crops into three groups: (light) 69 lbs. or less; (medium) 70-89 lbs.; and (heavy) 90 lbs. and up. We edited out any abortions and all twins. In a nutshell, the death loss at birth through weaning was twice as high on the light calves as it was on the medium calves. The death loss on the heavy calves was the least of the three groups, and it was the least in every one of the four years. We did not differentiate according to cause of death, or whether it was right at birth or later on pre-weaning. We’ve all heard someone say the growth rate of a dead calf is distressingly poor, and took that to mean we needed lighter calves at birth so we would get more of them born alive. Every operation is different, but it certainly appears to us that bigger calves at birth are more likely to still be around at weaning. We would never advocate breeding heifers to anything but a true heifer bull, but our cowherds might be much better served by sires that give their calves more of a head start. A study by the University of Illinois on Sim-Angus cattle reported the same conclusions.
“Dear Mr. Begger, I enjoyed watching your bull sale. It was a good one. I wanted to drive out there but needed to do something before the cold weather. Your bulls seem to last, I know a seed stock producer wants repeat buyers but if they lasted any longer we might forget where they came from! Sold a bull of yours, thought he was six or seven, brand papers were dated 2013!” - Lee Ingals, Repeat buyer, 2021

These 3 Angus bulls are absolutely 3 of a kind and peas in a pod. They all come from very good powerful Angus dams, their sire was our pick out of Vermillion’s program. He did an exceptional job and stamped them alike. These bulls are loaded with volume, have great dispositions, and will sire great daughters. They will put the easy keep in your cows, buy one or all they will do you a lot of good. Note, Lot 146 has a short tail, his dam chewed if off while cleaning him up, yes he had a full tail but his mom over did it while cleaning him up.

This bull was weaned in June, it hurt his performance. His dam was one of the best Franklin daughters you could lay your eyes on. He could be the buy of the sale.

REFERENCE SIRES SIMMENTAL SIRES BCLR MANIFESTO G352
NLC HALF NELSON 98E
Doug Bichler’s $62,500 sale topper, a Proclamation son that sires them with a little more thickness and power than Proclamation does. We like what we see, more of a cow bull that offers a little more punch and fleshing ability.
This 1/2 blood Range Boss son was a sale feature at Nelson’s a few years back. He has a little more frame than his sire, but sires calves that are flashy and are performing quite well, most of his sons and daughters made the cut and look to be cattle that will add value. We lost him in early summer due to a leg injury so there won’t be many more.

CCR PAY DIRT 2340C
SYS BANJO F39
This Main Event son was my pick of all the bulls at the C Diamond sale. He had a disposition that was second to none and way out front of any other bull in that sale. Preacher sires cattle with eye appeal, they are stylish and born easily. You can use his sons on a wide variety of type and kind with very good results.
An ABS Sim-Angus bull that ABS claims to be 1682’s best son. We think that could be true. This is Pay Dirt’s third set of sons in the sale and another group is on the way. In our sale, a Pay Dirt son topped it and all were sought after. We think there is a couple of his sons that are pretty special again this year.
GQ CONOCO FG [PICTURED ON PAGE 16]
This purebred bull is absolutely a breeding piece. He is moderate framed, thick made and loaded with muscle and eye appeal. One of his greatest attributes is his quiet disposition. It looks like his calving ease is excellent, most are born in the 80-90 LB range and they are moderate and thick. One of his sons is the top 205 wt bull in the entire offering. We feel confident that his sons will be the ticket for both purebred and commercial outfits that are looking to add muscle and performance in a very complete moderate package. Both his purebred and Sim Angus sons are very complete and eye catching.
HOOK’S EAGLE 6E
This bull seems to do a lot of things right. He has a very easy to appreciate, EPD profile ranking at the top of the charts in most categories. We really appreciate the dispositions he sires, very quiet and easy to get along with. His actual performance and in his progeny is at curve bending levels. He calves easy and the calves weigh like lead at weaning and yearling. One of the unique things is they do it in a more moderate easy fleshing manor with sensible mature size. He is a bull we will be using more in the future.
LCDR FAVOR 149F [PICTURED ON PAGE 6]
We were looking for a bull with an outcross pedigree that would enhance an EPD profile, along with excellent performance and eye appeal. We decided to breed a set of cows to Favor, we were very impressed with the outcome. These cattle exceeded our expectations, they calved good, performed way above average, and the phenotype is outstanding. We have to say Favor is a very elite breeding bull, you will definitely be impressed with his sons, they will lead off the sale. We feel they are a complete and total package that should compliment most any program.
LRS TOP SHELF 902F [PICTURED ON PAGE 7]
What a great acquisition this outstanding individual has not done much wrong. His sons and daughters are absolutely some of the best. He calves easily. After calving this spring, we have bred him to several heifers, we will find out if he makes the cut as a calving ease heifer bull soon. No matter on cows, he is a slam dunk. And it don’t stop there, both his sons and daughters are absolutely on track to be some of the elite. If your program is looking to add calving ease, fleshing ability, weaning performance and maternal characteristics, here is one of the breeds best and most consistent sires. He has been heavy use in both our spring and fall programs and will be one of the heaviest used bulls in the future. Easy calving, excellent performance, top of the line eye appeal and not a bad one in the bunch.
This bull absolutely rocks. We were looking for a baldy bull with no white under his belly, when we saw this bull, we knew he was the one. He sires them thick, deep and good. His calves perform at the top of the pack. You get about ½ baldy and ½ solid black when used on solid black cows. His disposition is outstanding and the fleshing ability and performance is what the industry needs more of.
Want to add some length and eye appeal, Banjo sons just might be a great choice. These cattle are long, clean made, and eye pleasing. We recommend using them on deep bodied cows that could use more length and style.
TJ FLAT IRON 259G
Flat Iron is a very thick moderate framed bull with a lot of style and thickness. We used him on a large number of heifers, they came okay, but we think he is a bit much for heifers (cows no problem). These cattle are quite moderate, very thick, and have lots of eye appeal. We feel he is a frame reducer that has a lot of potential in the Industry. He sires fleshing ability and style.
TJ FRANCHISE 451D [PICTURED ON PAGE 8]
Franchise is a bull that is in the ABS lineup. He is thick, moderate framed, and very eye appealing. We used him on a wide variety of cows with mixed results. We did use him on quite a few heifers and had good results. Never helped any but do not feel that he is a slam dunk heifer bull because we did get some larger BW out of mature cows. Franchise sires’ calves that are attractive and most are thick deep sided and wide across the top and down through the rear quarter. The dispositions are excellent. We recommend his sons for the rancher that likes cattle that are moderate framed and eye appealing.
ANGUS SIRES SAV DOWN POUR
Kelly Schaff encouraged me to use DownPour, he feels that he is the next generation to his sire RainFall. These Down Pours are moderate, thick and very useful. He sired excellent Sim-Angus sons and daughters. He definitely has his place in the industry.
SAV RAINFALL
A true calving ease bull with way more to offer than just calving ease. The Rainfall’s are thick, easy fleshing, and made the right way. He definitely clicks on Simmental Cattle. We give him a big thumbs up, as a true curve bender with added style and performance.
VERMILLION PRIVILEGE E856
This bull was a stud. When I went into the over 300 bull in that offering, there stood VP, what a thick, deep, powerful Angus. He just reeked with thickness and he possessed a butt end that very few Angus cattle have. His calves are a real pleasure to observe, like their sire full of meat and muscle. Get a hold of the rope, these cattle are exciting.
