OSA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE CLIFF LINDER

Welcome to the Ohio Simmental Breeders Directory!

Wow, what a year it has been. Thank you for your interest and support of the Ohio Simmental Association and the breeders you will find listed throughout this directory. The Simmental breed in Ohio and across the nation has been actively growing in numbers and gaining popularity. Whether it’s purebred seedstock or utilizing SimGenetics in a crossbreeding, Simmental can help get you where you’re headed. The OSA breeders listed throughout this directory have something that will work for any operation. Please feel free to contact any breeder listed with questions, they’re always willing to help answer questions and show you their cattle.

The cattle industry will face some major changes and hurdles in the years ahead due to downsizing the US cow herd due to different weather and market related themes throughout the last couple of years. I am excited for the Simmental breed to have a major part in the future rebuilding of the cow herd across the country, and the challenges and benefits that it will bring to our breeders. The world is continuing to grow around us, we as beef cattle breeders are challenged with the task of feeding that growing population with the safest beef supply in the world. I look to you as breeders to encourage and work with our young people to make sure that the Simmental breed is a viable source of quality beef genetics far into the future.

The OSA keeps very busy throughout the year hosting a variety of events for the membership. Every year the association works very hard to promote our great cattle and we are proud of our Eastern Classic Sale held every year at the Ohio Beef Expo to help our breeders market great genetics. We are also excited to watch our junior members compete in our annual Memorial Day Classic and then go on to do awesome things at the AJSA shows in the summer. In 2023 we are proud to be hosting the AJSA Eastern Regional in Lima, Ohio and we would like to thank each person or business that gives time, money and support to our young folks. When it comes to summer events, we love to see the growth over the years in the Simmental breed at the Ohio State Fair. Even though we’ve had our share of challenges over the last few years in making sure we can still have that event, it is back and better than ever.

We strive to offer a variety of events and marketing opportunities for our membership, no matter the size or focus of your operation. All are welcome to participate in our events, please contact either myself, board members, the listed sale managers or any member listed throughout the directory and we’ll be glad to help answer your questions.

We look forward to seeing you throughout the year!

Sincerely,

Cliff Linder, OSA President
