INSURANCE
Jame Secondino, American Livestock Insurance . . . . . . . 812.208.0956
We are excited to share with you our inaugural online sale offering with J Bar M Cattle on November 27th via SC Online Sales, featuring open females, bred females and genetic lots. Missing Rail Simmentals started as a post 4-H adventure for Tim and Peg Brinkman when they purchased their first Simmental female in the fall of 1982, just a few months after getting married. Tim grew up showing crossbred steers at the county fair and Peg was raised on a 60 head dairy operation. They pursued quality genetics and started to build friendships with fellow cattlemen across the country; meeting people through their involvement in the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, American Simmental Association, Ohio Simmental Association and attending numerous livestock shows. Their children, Emily and Kyle Brinkman, joined the operation in the early ‘90s, which led to the first black baldie female being purchased in 1996, and eventually securing summer family vacations at American Junior Simmental Association regional and national shows for the next 16 years, starting in 1998. Since then the herd has continued to grow in quality and quantity, strongly surpassing the original idea of a 20 head cow/calf operation to preparing to calve 70 cows this winter. As we join forces to produce high quality Simmental seedstock you’ll find a few common ideals throughout our herds... cow families matter, structural soundness is crucial and we prioritize phenotype over paper any day. This new venture also allows us to focus on more than just the traits of the cattle, we see this sale as an opportunity to create a stronger relationship with our customers. We want to understand your program and goals, whether you’re an established breeder or just getting started we are confident we can pair you with genetics that’ll work for your program. If you’re a junior exhibitor - let’s chat! Most of our young, front pasture females have been shown competitively at the state and national level, let our past success help cultivate your future success. We know and love livestock youth programs and enjoy helping young exhibitors learn new skills and compete on any level, let us know how we can work together and help you succeed!
TRUCKING
We will work with each individual customer to arrange the most economical trucking available.
EPD DATA
The EPD’s reported in this catalog are the Fall 2017 numbers as reported by the American Simmental Association.

THE TRACK 2 SUCCESS | 2017
Emily Brinkman, Missing Rail Simmentals
SUCCESS ISN’T A DESTINATION, IT’S A JOURNEY. As I sit down to write this I think about all the great people that have helped shape my journey on this road we all call life. From Blackhawk East to Iowa State to now Ohio, I have fell in love with the cattle business and all the people along the way. I was raised in a rural community, surrounded by the agriculture lifestyle and enjoyed helping local farmers with the various seasons of planting and harvesting crops. My interest in cattle started unintentionally while working a summer job that entailed helping Brad Schumacher manage his Sullivan’s trailer. I soon began studying everything I could about cattle, from livestock classes at school to the Internet. I couldn’t get enough information and at every turn there was a new contact and influence from so many knowledgeable people. I purchased my first open Angus heifer from Lemenager Cattle in 2011 with Finesse Livestock Enterprises and I was hooked! Now my herd consists of Simmental, SimAngus, and Angus donors; several young registered cows and commercial cows for recipients. Six short years later and I have moved my operation to Ohio with the help of so many along the way. I can’t thank all of you enough and express my gratitude to you, taking a young man that did not know much about livestock under your wings and letting him thrive. Big thanks goes out to Kyle Porter, his parents, and Kaitlyn Bonzer, The Lemenager Cattle team, the Henderson Family, Brent Wirth, my parents, the Brinkmans and so many more for supporting my dreams and backing me with my crazy ideas. I have been lucky enough to be able hang some banners along the way, with the highlight coming at the 2015 Iowa State Fair with Reserve Grand Champion Purebred Simmental. I know there are many more friends to be made as the years go on but the relationships up to the present are some of the best, and if it wasn’t for cattle I wouldn’t have met most of you. Without cattle I would not have met the love of my life and had the opportunity to do what I love everyday, thanks for pushing me Emily! Never did I think I would be able to offer a set of females like this up for sale in such a short amount of time. This offering is first and foremost going to be a great investment and will be productive cows for years to come. Some will show, some read well on paper, some are replacement quality but they are all going to be useful however the buyer decides to utilize them. The Simmental breed is one of the hottest around, whether it be in the show ring, for breeding stock or at the feedlot! We are excited to work with customers new and old so please don’t hesitate to give any of us a call, and thank you for your time and consideration of our offering.

Her first work, a bull by Lock Down, went to South Dakota and we calved a litter of Classifieds out of her this past spring that you will hear more from in the future. We had her first Broker embryo calf born this fall and await the calves by The Player and more Brokers this spring. She is an excellent cow and an outstanding embryo producer. We can’t wait for her to calve so we can flush her again. Thank you to Elmore Farms of Oklahoma and Haley Farms of Ohio for being the first to purchase genetics out of this power cow.

Luckily, on that cold day in February, Tim and Emily were there to evaluate this female and get her bought for me. She was an influential and prolific donor for them, with several daughters retained and bulls working all over the upper Midwest. Before she made her way to Iowa and eventually Ohio her biggest achievement was a son sired by TNT Top Gun, BCLR Ammo W513-1, which sold to Gonisor and was leased to Genex /CRI. When she got to Iowa she laid down and had a stout bull calf and went right to the donor pen. This year she will surpass the milestone of recording her 50th calf. She averaged over 12 embryos on four flushes since I’ve owned her. She is still in great shape and headed back to get flushed again this month. Look for progeny out of her for a long time to come.

Instantly I asked if it was a baldy Steel Force daughter, which she confirmed, unknowingly I already knew about “Glitter” from her show career days with the Henderson family while I attended Iowa State. Needless to say a few weeks later we bought this powerhouse and by January she had made her way to Ohio (and we finally had to break the news to Tim and Peg we’d purchased another cow). A model SimAngus female, that puts it all together. White on her face, massive in her design, sound all the way to the ground, neat uddered, and a smokin good front end. B299 was shown one time at the 2015 Iowa State Fair, which was the biggest haltered Simmental show on record, and took home the Reserve Grand Champion banner. From there she went home, laid down and had a heifer calf by Wide Range that is being retained in Iowa. We sold a flush to New Trend Cattle of Canada and they had a pair of Primo heifers born this spring. I really think this donor is big time and I really appreciate Kyle allowing me to partner with him on this one. Her picture and her video should speak for themselves but I wouldn’t be doing her justice if I didn’t try to put a few words together on this female. This one is just flat out good and is the best heifer I have raised in my short time in the business. I knew when I purchased her dam from Doug Bichler in North Dakota in 2015 she would be a big part of my young program. She is sired by the stud, Executive Order and he’s really causing a stir in this breed. E702 has all the pieces to compete as a bred next year. She is bold and powerful in her design. She sets down on her feet ever so gracefully and fills her track elegantly every time she strides around the pen. This one can be mated so many different ways because of not only her look but her EPDs and pedigree. I could go on and on of how proud I am to offer a heifer of this caliber for everyone’s evaluation. While I am committed to bringing my best to the table, this one is too hard to let her go in her entirety. Offering half-interest with show possession negotiable. We are more than happy to work with the new buyer to house and exhibit this female, but we really feel this heifer should get in the hands of a junior exhibitor and compete at the AJSA National Classic in Minnesota next summer and then the majors next winter. Call Jaymes to discuss the details.

This one is appealing to look at from any angle and should be on everyone’s list to consider. 714E needs to be shown and will be one to compete at the AJSA Junior Nationals in MN next summer. A female that is moderate in her frame size and is just put together so right. She is correct in her angles and straight in her lines. Not to mention she is a belly dragger and she can flat out move. I can’t just use one phrase for this one so I leave you with a few to think about and you can decide which fits her best. Power Cow. Show Prospect. Future Donor.

725E has been a favorite since she hit the ground. I was pretty devastated when I found her missing the switch of her tail later on this spring. She still has a killer look that starts with a striking blaze on her face and is completed by a smooth look from front to back. All while being powerful enough and having the foot and bone that will not only make a show heifer but a phenomenal cow when she heads from the show ring to the pasture. Her dam has raised two bulls we’ve sold over the past few years and we have retained a daughter in the herd. If she can do what her mother has done on her first four calves we will be kicking ourselves for letting this one leave the farm.

Another outstanding Regan daughter that’s really come on this fall. While she may not be from the same mold as her Executive Order maternal sisters, she still has all the right pieces to make it on the tan bark and become an exceptional cow. She is long bodied and sound structured, and will really look the part next fall when she can showcase her true depth of body heavy with calf. This Revenue daughter is a true outcross to the popular Simmental genetics used the last several years - a great breeding piece. She is homo black and homo polled by pedigree and stands above breed average on 10 of 18 EPDs. Did I mention she is puppy dog tame and anyone can walk up to her in the pen.

A fancy 3/4 blood female sired by Lock Down, she is the youngest in the sale and is just green, but don’t let it discount her. 734E is out of a really good New Direction first calf heifer that goes back to the famous HHSF Black Glitter. A cool baldy face and enough white to get a second look, all she needs is time and someone on the halter.
We have been really happy with our Lock Down sired cattle. They come easy and get the job done as they mature, all while still looking the part. This fall born is out of a W1545 daughter going back to our Suspicion donor. Some of our best young cows are sired by W1545, this one should be a great breeding piece. The best part is she is ready to breed now.

Bred to W/C Lock Down 206Z (ASA# 2658496) on 3/26/2017. No bull exposure. Due 1/5/2017. This female has been in the show barn for the better part of her life and it’s hard to offer her for sale. “Mallory” has been shown successfully and is right off the top of our replacement pen. A daughter of Revolution and a really good Mack sired 1/2 blood cow, a female we probably should be flushing, going back to the great female maker, EXT. She is extremely long and deep bodied, moves around the pen on a big foot and stout bone. She stuck to Lock Down first service and is due to calve in early January. The vet was able to sex the calf as a heifer when we preg checked this summer and if he’s right the 5/8 blood baldy baby she has in January could surely pay for her right off the bat!

Bred to W/C Lock Down 206Z (ASA# 2658496) on 4/24/2017. No bull exposure. Due 2/3/2017. This Combustible sired half-blood is going to make one heck of a cow. She is the result of embryos purchased from Forest Brook Farms out of their WB Queen 909 Angus donor that is now working for Trent Templeton at T Bar T. Ask either of these programs what this mating has done. D131 is a model SimAngus female; fancy made, big bellied, and sound moving. On the profile she is one that catches your eye every time and has an ideal udder in the making. She is bred to Lock Down for an early February, a double bred half blood calf that will be a cash voucher come next fall. Heifer or bull let me know because I think it will be an interesting one either way.

A New Direction daughter out of a Pays to Dream percentage female from the Bramlet family in Illinois we showed with 707B and BN53. She has developed into an outstanding heifer that is going make one whale of a cow. We want to offer our best, so this is another one out of a young productive cow and is right off the top of the replacement pen. Vet said it was to close to call but either way I am confident that the resulting calf will be an asset to any program.

A Shocking Dream sired heifer is the result of a bred heifer purchase from Silvertowne Farms. Her pedigree is backed by consistent cow families from top to bottom. An attractive made heifer that is straight in her lines, moves with ease, and has the foundation for an outstanding udder. The heifer calf she is going to have in mid February by Uno Mas will be a good one.

Safe to AI, Due 1/27/2018. 623D is a powerhouse red female that is attractive phenotypically and on paper. She is thick made and posses that brood cow look. She is sired by Prime Beef and we love what he has done on our cows. Her mother is a W1545 daughter and a maternal sister to the 717E open heifer. She is bred to Uno Mas sexed heifer semen for a late January baby.

This red heifer is a solid replacement female. She is sired by a son of Legacy and STF Desa Rae. Her dam is another W1545 daughter. She will make a great cow and her pedigree reads with longevity and maternal history. Her calf will be sired by our son of STF Smokin Hot who cleaned up our heifers the last two years. We never touched one at calving and they were some of the heaviest at weaning time.

Corporate saw heavy use this spring to some of our best cows and we’re anticipating his first calf crop of 15-20 calves this winter. We showed him at NAILE and the NWSS during the 2016/2017 show season where he made many friends. The Pays to Believe cattle are popping up all over and his mother is a full sister to the great STF Onyx. He should sire fancy progeny and add pounds to a calf crop.
