MARCIN Workshop application

ANSWER ME THESE QUESTIONS THREE! Co-Creation Workshop organizers seem to paraphrase a famous dialogue from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” in which the Bridge keeper challenges the knights of the Round Table by asking them questions: He whose application will be accepted Must answer me These questions three Ere Brussels’ workshop he see I am not afraid! – the knights responded on the trot. And so did I.

What… is your name? My name is Marcin and I am 23. I am currently pursuing my master degree in Finance and Accounting (University of Warsaw) and commencing postgraduate studies in the field of EU economic and monetary union (University of Warsaw & National Bank of Poland). I am a Generation Europe Foundation Ambassador in Poland (since July 2009). Last of all, I work as an analyst in a global business consulting company.

What… is your quest? To seek… the balance between ecology and entrepreneurship. I will speak not only for my country, but also for those which find themselves in a similar situation to Poland with regard to “green” initiatives. A sufficiently accurate label for this group is post-Communist states, where the reality is marked by structural problems (e.g. heavy industry, destroyed mentality), many social and economic troubles to deal with and, last but not least, lack of so-called “green traditions”. In other words, we are significantly lower on the Maslow hierarchy of needs than the most developed countries, thus having less exposure to green-related issues. I will try to provide you with our understanding of this matter and strive to develop another, more realistic path of convergence to the idyllic model of green entrepreneurship, which would take into account the peculiar characteristics of certain countries.

What… is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? I am not really going to answer this question literally. Nevertheless, since a swallow may be considered to be a symbol of biodiversity, thus sustainability, I will gladly say something about my spare time fillers that help me to live sustainable after I leave my office in the afternoons. I am passionate about three things: travels, modern history and sports. I principally love tramping through Eastern Europe, not spoilt by tourism, where I still feel like a guest, not a consumer of tourism services. With regard to history, I am mostly absorbed with the highly unstable 1918-1939 period. My favorite sports are football, volleyball and judo. In a broader sense, I am passionate (call it diligent) about everything I do – I believe we all should devote ourselves to activities which we actually enjoy doing. Otherwise, we are on a straight path to disappointment. I am proud to be quite experienced as far as youth undertakings are concerned. Apart from being GEF Ambassador, I took an active role in the development of Student Internet Television TVPW. I also participated in a number of events organized by EUSTORY, European University College Association, Board of European Students of Technology, Körber Foundation, Felix Meritis Foundation or EURAC Research.
