FLASHBACK 2016 - 2019 Drawings

INTRODUCTION
2016 Spring, in a small cafÊ in Vancouver, Canada. I began sketching the styles and construction of clothing free-hand, from memory. I believe memory drawing makes art feel close to the heart. The process is accepting of the inner mind’s perception and play. With only the page, the ink and colour balancing each other, it felt like meditation combined with daydreaming. I practiced this monthly. And soon I had a large folder of sketches collected over the years. The following is a selection of work that have been scanned and digitally remastered.

PROCESS
A record of my process. First, start with shapes. Little shapes followed by big shapes, and tight spaces offset with empty space. Make each stroke in direct response to the last. There are no mistakes to be made. Then after the ink dries, choose your favourite colour markers and fill in the shapes. Try different combinations of colours. Make patterns that lead the eye, jumping around, in a puzzle or maze. Get lost in perfectly filling in each shape... Now it’s your turn, take a breather and doodle away.
