Georgetown University is proud to be partnering with the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) to bring exciting new professional development opportunities to MD-‐DC-‐VA K-‐14 teachers, who are interested in expanding their knowledge on Asian history, culture, art, and current events. This seminar has been specifically tailored to cover many of the East Asia topics in the MD-‐DC-‐VA middle and high
school state curricula/standards of learning (SOLs).
April 6- Comparing Chinese and Japanese Literary Arts April 20- The Cost of Japanese Imperialism in China, Korea, and Japan May 4- Contemporary Culture: China, Japan, Korea May 11- Contemporary Issues in Philosophies, Trade, and Aggression
BRING ASIA ALIVE IN THE CLASSROOM NCTA is a nationwide initiative to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about East Asia in the K-12 curriculum, started in 1998 and funded by the Freeman Foundation. NCTA offers seminars that provide comprehensive coverage of East Asian history, culture, literature, art, contemporary issues, and more!
In Spring 2013, the East Asia Center at Georgetown University will be hosting a NCTA professional development seminar, “Asia Days 2013,” for K-14 teachers interested in expanding their knowledge and educational resources on East Asia. Special attention will be paid to translating lessons from the seminar into tangible classroom implementation plans.

Seminar Requirements
All who enroll in and complete the NCTA seminar receive the following benefits:
To complete this seminar, participants must:
• Professional Development Credit • $300 worth of teaching materials for your school, including course textbook and a one year subscription to the K-16 educator journal Education About Asia • $300 stipend at the completion of all coursework
• Eligibility to participate in study tours/ events locally
and in East Asia

Seminar location
• Express commitment to integrating East Asia content into your curriculum • Attend and participate in all sessions (36 contact hours held as a 30 hour-seminar in the spring and 6 followup session hours in the fall) • Complete assignments and requirements, including designing an implementation plan that incorporates East Asian material into your curriculum
