What is vision? Why is it important to a health care organization and what role does it play in the strategic planning process? In this session, our expert panelists will look at the available means of developing a new vision as well as the magnitude of efforts required. They’ll also discuss the difficulties of developing a longer-term vision in health care and the benefits of having a comprehensive vision versus a single sentence or tagline.
Panelists will focus on identifying the stakeholders who help shape the strategic vision and the process of translating it across the organization to ensure the vision is understood and implemented.
For over 25 years Katie Bell has served as a human capital consultant to preeminent health care organizations. Currently serving on the Korn Ferry Healthcare Leadership Team, she oversees global accounts to ensure best practice partnerships.
She holds extensive human capital management consulting experience with a focus on organizational development, talent management, and workforce wellness. As the co-founder of a groundbreaking health initiative, she led a 200-person global team to create a database of population health and well-being data that government, business, and health care leaders still use today to measure the health, wellness, and prevention needs of U.S. and global populations.
Ms. Bell holds a Bachelor of Science in business education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has completed executive education coursework at Harvard University in Cambridge. She is an advisory board member for WBL (Women Business Leaders in the Healthcare Industry) and the University of Nebraska College of Business. She is a published author and frequent guest speaker.
Russel Carlson leads DCH’s health policy initiatives and provides oversight to the Medicaid and State Health Benefit Plan programs, helping ensure effective approaches across the agency. Carlson brings years of both state government and health care experience and has fostered and maintained strong relationships with key agency stakeholders. He has also been instrumental in providing strategic direction and leadership during the implementation of DCH’s key priorities. He formerly served as the highest-ranking civilian in the Department of Defense as the Deputy Adjutant General where he provided leadership and oversight for all administrative functions and more than 550 employees. Additionally, he has held numerous other roles where he led policy, budget, and administrative functions within complex state government organizations.
Eric Lisle is co-founder and chief executive officer at Southeast Primary Care Partners (SPCP), a primary care-focused management services organization dedicated to achieving true value-based care everywhere. With a history of executive leadership roles at some of the country’s largest and most influential health care organizations, Eric has a finger on the pulse of the industry and an understanding of what’s needed next and how to get there. Under his leadership, SPCP has expanded its footprint across the Southeast, growing to 125 providers and 588 employees, and ending 2022 with over 300,000 patient visits and a total of 18,000 value-based lives.
Prior to co-founding Southeast Primary Care Partners, Eric was executive vice president of development at Optum, where he implemented strategies to address rising costs and oversaw Q&A, strategic partnerships and both ACO and CIN initiatives. Eric was also a chief executive officer of PA Health & Wellness (Centene Corporation). Before joining Centene, he held leadership roles at Highmark Health and Humana (Tricare). Eric served his country as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years.
Gina Tipton, RN, BSN, MBA, FACHE, CRRN, CSSBB, has extensive experience in health care operations, quality, revenue cycle, compliance, and community partnership. Leveraging the New Determinants of Health to Improve Patient Outcomes
Daniel DawesAs a passionate advocate for underserved communities, Daniel Dawes has become a national thought leader on utilizing data on the social determinants of health to identify and eliminate health care disparities. He looks beyond social determinants to examine how the behavioral, community, and even political determinants of health can decrease the risk factors contributing to the poor health pandemic. In this dynamic presentation, Dawes looks at multiple factors affecting health and takes audience members further upstream to understand the root causes of disparities. He shows how to effectively disrupt the silos and engage in strategic partnerships to advance a more equitable and inclusive health system. Providing real life examples, he challenges audiences to look at determinants and data in a whole new way. He also provides practical applications that can immediately be put into action.
Daniel E. Dawes, J.D., is a widely respected health care and public health leader, health equity and policy expert, educator, and researcher who currently serves as senior vice president, global health & executive director of the Global Health Equity Institute at Meharry Medical College. The Other End of the Stethoscope
Marcus Engel, M.S., CPXP, CSP, Certified Speaking Professional & Author
Marcus Engel’s touching tale of trauma, hospitalization, and healing will provide insight from ‘the other end of the stethoscope.’ The value of excellent skills and the remarkable impact of health care professionals is honored and recognized. Heartwarming and hilarious, this presentation will remind health care professionals why they do what they do and will inspire dedication to excellence in patient care.
Blending personal narratives with evidence-based research, Marcus helps put an unforgettable name and face to the patient experience movement. Through two years of rehab, over 350 hours of reconstructive facial surgery, and adaptation through a multitude of life changes, Marcus witnessed the good, the bad and the profound in patient care. His messages provide insight and offer strategies for excellent patient care. He has authored four books that are used in scores of nursing and allied health programs to teach the basic foundations of caregiving.
Marcus holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri and a Master of Science in narrative medicine from Columbia University in New York City. In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where he teaches pre-med students the art of “being with.” More information can be found at www.MarcusEngel.com.
