Pet insurance is the one of the fastest growing finance product on the Australian market, but even for a young industry it is starting to grow its own urban myths. In the next few articles we will attempt to demystify these myths. Pet insurance Myth #1, is that many dogs are excluded from pet insurance. So is this true, can your dog get best dog insurance?
I have a working dog: There are some working dogs that are not suited to dog insurance, and this is because they are not actually pets. However if you have a farm dog, that works, but for all intent purpose is still a pet, then Petplan dog insurance is a good idea for them. Often farm dogs are very active and may need bone related surgeries later down the track, so putting them on dog insurance is a good idea. My dog has pre-existing issues: Yes if your dog has some pre-existing conditions, you may have some exclusion on your dog insurance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have dog insurance Australia. Instead it means that other parts of your dog’s health will be covered. When we hear this we are © 2013 Petplan.com.au. All rights reserved.
reminded of a story: Jeffery the Labrador had had constant urinary infections before his owner activated him dog insurance. Because of this his owner had always though that because of this pre-existing issues, there would be no point having dog insurance, but decided to go ahead anyway. There was an exclusion placed on the urinary infections, when the policy was activated. Then about a year later Jeffrey was hit by a car and needed spinal surgery to survive. This of course, was covered his policy. The lesion is, just because there are some exclusions, due to a pre-existing illness, doesn’t mean that you should avoid dog insurance.
My dog comes to work with me, but doesn’t work: Let’s say your happy hound comes to work with you, to your florist, but doesn’t actually work (instead she sleeps in her bed and talks to the customers) even though you call her your customer relations manager, you don’t need to have any concerns about dog insurance. In some instances, as some work places may be specifically dangerous for your dog, you may have some exclusions, but these will generally be on situations that you are already preventing from happening.

My dog is elderly: Yes it is true that some dog insurances cannot be activated for dogs over a certain age, but this is not true of all dog insurance plans. It is worth checking if you chosen insurance provider has options for elderly pets, as many will have options for a 12 month policy that excludes some options, and can cost less because of that.
