proper Definition: A proper noun is the special word (or name) that we use for a person, place or organization, like John, Marie, London, France or Sony. A name is a noun, but a very special noun - a proper noun. Proper nouns have special rules. Noncount nouns refer to things that cannot be counted because they are regarded as wholes which cannot be divided into parts. They often refer to abstractions and occasionally have a collective meaning exsamples: anger furniture warmth leisure education courage progress weather exercises:

Count nouns refer to things that can be divided up into smaller units which are separate and distinct from one another. They usually refer to what can individually be seen or heard: examples: table chair word remark finger bottle award candidate exercises:

The researcher had to overcome some specific problems to collect the data. The political arguments took the nation to a situation of political instability. There were bright lights and harsh sounds.


collective noun Nouns name people, places, and things. Collective nouns, a special class, name groups[things] composed of members [usually people]. abstract noun abstract noun: is a type of noun that refers to something with which a person cannot physically interact. A noun is a person, place or thing. However, in many cases, the 'thing' might be an intangible concept – which means it is an abstract form of noun. In this instance, abstract means to exist apart from concrete existence. A noun that is abstract is an aspect, concept, idea, experience, state of being, trait, quality, feeling, or other entity that cannot be experienced with the five senses. concrete noun

Nouns name people, places, and things. One class of nouns is concrete. You can experience this group of nouns with your five senses: you see them, hear them, smell them, taste them, and feel them. plural noun Plural: A plural noun is a noun that is more than one. Nouns are categorized as people, places, things or ideas. So a plura noun, is when there is more than one person, more than one place and more than one thing or more than one idea. Some nouns just require an 's' to be added to the end of the word, where others require an 'es'. If the word ends in 'y' it is usually dropped and 'ies' is added to the end of the word. There are also irregular plural nouns, because the form of the word changes. For example, mouse = mice, calf = calves. Just remember if you are asked for a plural noun, you need to have more than one.
