Circle Portrait Project 2014 Course: Advanced Graphic Design & Illustration Grade Level: 10-12 Objective: Using graphic software, create unique faces by drawing circles of various sizes and colors, in order to give them a dynamic and 3D appearance. Process: Step 1 - Take a digital image of student with unique expression and print out for student in b/w or color. Step 2 - Open up any graphic software, create new document with black background. (Minimum size is 9 inch x 12 inch with 150 DPI resolution) Step 3 Use printed image to observe and capture the image digitally using graphic software such as Photoshop or Illustrator. Students can grid if they are new to drawing or they can free hand. (Students are not allowed to upload images to their computers and outline). Drawing tablets work well for this step. Make sure sketch is on a layer by itself. Step 4 Use the image to observe the contour of the facial features, build up the digital portrait using various circles of one color, one size and one tone. Focus on the movement of your face. Each circle is placed one by one, with no automatic process. TEKS: The student will; 9D Maintain a career portfolio to document work experiences, licenses, certifications, and work samples. 11Dv Employ a creative design process to create original two- or three-dimensional projects by using anatomically appropriate figure drawing. 11Dvii Employ a creative design process to create original two – or three-dimensional projects using the most effective color choice in projects.
