CHILDREN REHABILITATION CENTRE M.ARCH THESIS Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Tutor S.Pamerneckis WGS 55.765702, 21.089873 Situation: The rehabilitation centre located in a former children‘s sanatorium area in Giruliai (health resort village). Task: To create a centre which could aid healing process by using space, light and landscape. Integrate new architecture with respect to the main characteristics and features of the site. Result: The new building has 3 main functions: day centre, therapy and in-patient block. The first floor plan was created as an open space with minimal function separation. It lends itself to anticipate the building‘s structure and helps to orientate. Contrary to erupted cubes which create a different emotional mood works as therapy and helps control patients. Cubes are “politely” receded from the historical buildings which allow visual connections to be created amongst them. The architectural expression is a hint to the typical Giruliai architecture – small scale, compact wooden buildings.

Homeless housing is enclosed, private area with separate apartments and big garden that is taken care of by the residents. Addiction centre has separate entrance and is easily accessible from the street side. Wards are placed in a historic building. CURONIAN SPIT ARCHITECTURAL STOPS
WORKSHOP ESTABLISHMENT http://archstoteles.lt/ With Architect Algimantas Zaviša Charity and Support Foundation Partly funded by Lithuanian Council for Culture Published by ARCHDAILY, statybunaujienos.lt, ziniuradijas, archiforma.lt. Presented as inspiring project on SIKON (students idea competition) Situation: Workshop in Curonian Spit, Lithuania. Task: Idea of the workshop is to create excellent examples of contemporary architecture in Curonian Spit - unique area protected by UNESCO. Lack of collaboration between different authorities leads to politics of prohibition instead of creative. Architects start collaborating from the very begining with municipality, scientists, cultural heritage, environmentalists to create the concepts of bus stops designs. Pilot projects reflect unique spirit of the place in contemporary way. Responsibilities: Development, implementation and organization through all stages of the workshop. Design solutions, documentation. Result: Five architect groups presented diverse proposals with strong analytic ground. All the process was documented and published in the blog, presented during annual event in Nida and reviewed by scientists with historical, architectural, art criticism background.
“I believe the biggest value of the workshop is the process itself. How it runs and what kind of experiene we can get out of it. If phenomenon like this would continue, we will have good results not only in small scale, but in other objects in this
”
significant area.

DEAF DROPS
MASTER THESIS Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) Tutors X.Gonzalez C.Gomez Published on ElPais.com Situation: People are not able to perceive sounds below the defined threshold of 20 Hz. At low frequencies the line between barely hearing and hearing it loudly can be minuscule. With their geometry cities are especially vulnerable to infrasound because the high reverberant building facades of urban canyons create standing waves. Infrasonic range can morph into a major annoyance and cause health issues. Result: Deaf Drops is social consciousness project based on perceiving information about invisible urban noise. Sensors installed in public spaces read and convert low frequency waves into legible manner. Small devices are installed in Poblenou (Barcelona) neighburhood’s chimneys and broadcast converted sounds for citizens. It aims to awake curiosity of not obvious ambient layers which affect us. The idea is borrowed from ‘dead-drops’: espionage method to pass information using secret locations.
26
INITIAL INTEREST Invisible sounds are part of the nature. They exist in our environment thus influencing human health and behaviors. But since human audible range is not capable to detect them, the issue is not sufficiently brought up. Proposed solution to the issue is to create and implement public tool that allows precept low frequency noise. Specific technology applied to urban context expands perceptual audible limits of urban sonic environment. At the same time it generates an experience that provides information about noise state in specific area. The project is focused on interest in experimenting technologies that are capable to analyze, transform and harmonize incoming sounds. Cities have higher concentration of high and low resolution noise which is beyond natural limits. Our system ‘alerts’ that something is abnormal and automatically reacts to it. Constant noise generated by machines can be very unpleasant and cause stress, annoyance, physical and psychological health issues. BROADCASTING STATIONS I was thinking how to make people aware about things that affect them, but are not obvious. I decided to implement stations which would convert and broadcast low frequency sounds into audible form. For this I picked my neighbourhood’s most significant objects, which unfortunately lost it’s fuctionality today. Poblenou’s chmineys is heritage of industrial past and unique elements of the neighbourhood. Tall and significant structures are well visible and associates with huge urban sthetoscopes. The layout is favorable and every few blocks may reach or see it. where you can listen invisible sounds of your neighbourhood.

KLAIPEDA ARCHITECTURE
EXHIBITION DESIGN With Lithuanian Architects’ Union Klaipeda department Situation: Annual Klaipeda achitecture exhibition dedicated to the most recent architectural works in Klaipeda. Task: Create the concept and realize the exhibition and space for events and presentations, screens. Responsibilities: Concept and design of exhibition. Results: Built around the main hanging dominant - the cube - which served as a connection point for exposition mediums and as a basis for multi-dimensional visual installations. The form clarity was kept throughout exposition - more cubes were a support for presented projects, drawings and photographs. Stands with particular layouts of site plans were as a basis for augmented reality try-outs with tablets, presenting the 3D view of exhibited objects. Series of postcards were made for in-home use. Nostalgic and intimate experience, but yet very intuitive, was a wonderful way to present and share some of the most important works form Klaipeda.
