Dating at Parties By Jenny Welker
One thing to always keep in mind, always look at yourself in the mirror and say “would I invite myself over to meet, and party with my friends and family?” Dress for success at your parties, be FUN and SMILE all the time. Let’s face it, everyone is busy and stressed, the last thing they want is someone boring, disheveled, and grumpy coming to their house to party! Be happy and show everyone that You LOVE What You Do!
Dating at the party is a MUST! Dating at your parties, is very important for several reasons. First of all, if you don’t you will be “out of business” before you know it! Before you go to the party, set yourself a goal of how many parties you will date from that one party. I usually set my goal at a minimum of 3 parties from every party! Also, keep in mind, that you want these dates confirmed that night! It’s easier to tell someone “no” over the phone, so don’t give them that opportunity, if at all possible. Most people have their calendar accessible on their phone. Get a date and time! There are several ways to date parties at parties. Some examples are using a variety of dating games. I ALWAYS play at least one dating game at every single party or event that I attend. Here are a few suggestions that work best for me: 1. The Smidget/Tupper Mini Game – see attached instructions 2. The Dice Game – see attached instructions 3. The Key Chain game –see attached instructions I also use a cute play on words dating gift at parties as well as vendor events. For example, I order the mini grater dating gift and attach a bright piece of paper to the handle that just says something like, you would make a “Grate” hostess. I hand them out to people who seem to have the love for Tupperware and have a great inviting personality. You can order these on your sales aids order. (Order # 76008, $5 for a bag of 5)
Create a desire for our AWESOME, bigger and more expensive products! When you are setting up your display at parties, be sure to have some items that are on the more expensive end. If you don’t have them yet, borrow them! Having, or using the Microwave Pressure Cooker, The Stack Cooker System, or some of the Chef Series CookWare, creates this desire for guests who may not be able to pay full price for these items. That’s a great opportunity to share how the
host benefits work! Also, showing the Host Exclusives can create the same desire for party guests.
At minimum, ask EVERY guest at least 3 times about dating you! Ask when you are explaining the dating game you chose to play, say something like, “you don’t have to play the game to date me, you can date me now if you’d like!” Then of course ask during your presentation. I like to do that when I am showering my hostess with her gifts. I say something like, “you too can get all of these awesome gifts by having a party with me!” Who wants to date me? Then when I am collecting orders, I ask every single person again. Some people are shy and don’t want to speak up in the group setting, but face to face, they will agree to a party. Plus, it gives it that personal touch. Never let party guests think you are desperate for parties or datings. I never open my date book at a party or event. I always carry my Preferred Date Cards with me. An example of mine can be found in the handouts. When you go to a party, you plan what dates you want to book from that party. Fill out the date and time that you are available and the guests/future hosts fill out the rest! Then no one is looking at the personal business you have in your date book, like your kids birthday party, soccer practice, doctor appointments etc. You choose the days and times that work for you! If you say, “Oh my goodness, I am so glad you want to date me, I’m available any time and day!!” you sound desperate for business. Another tip I will give you on using the preferred date cards, only take dates with you that are 10 days to 2 weeks out. Keep them excited to have the party in the next couple of weeks.
Dating Away From Parties Dating away from parties is just as important as dating at parties and a lot of the same rules apply. Make sure you look like a fun Tupperware Lady when you are talking to future hosts! Be someone that you would invite into your own home! Everyone should know just by looking at you and hearing your happy voice that You Love What You DO!
Dating away from the party is a MUST! There are several resources Tupperware provided for helping us find parties. Go back to your Itup training and director & led trainings and refresh yourself on FRANK and Your Wonderful 100 lists to get ideas on where to find more parties! Remember, these lists are constantly changing because you are meeting new people all the time!
Create Your Own Party
Invite friends, family and neighbors over for your own party. Try a new recipe or product. Have a Bingo party at your house or community center, send invitations to past hosts and party guests. Host your own 30 minute Facebook party. Coordinate a Fundraiser – find a local non-profit organization or charity to donate the proceeds and monies raised Have a party in a bowl or pitcher
Friend Finding This can be a tough one for some, but we all have to get comfortable being uncomfortable! What to take:
Sales flyers with a blank post it note on the front Business cards Neighborhood Tupperware Lady flyers – see handouts for a sample Invitations to your next cooking demo or Mystery host party held at your home – see handout for a sample Preferred Date Cards A SMILE!
Go knocking on doors! When the homeowner answers, introduce yourself and explain that you are not doing door to door sales, but just letting them know that you are a Tupperware Lady in the neighborhood. Ask questions like, when is the last time you saw Tupperware or when is the last time you went to a Tupperware party? I also then ask if they have any Tupperware that may need to be warrantied. I believe that if you can fix a problem, then you will gain a customer! If they are very interested, invite them to something! Always leave them your sales flyer, but first, have them write their name and contact info on the post it note! You then have the information to follow up with them! I don’t ask for a party at that time, unless they get really excited about a party! Then pull out your Preferred Date cards! In your follow up conversation, always ask for a party or cooking demo or girls night get together! Make sure when you are walking away, jot down some notes on the post it, like what you discussed, did they need warranty help, did you leave an invitation to something?
Be Branded
Carry a water bottle or insulated tumbler with you Wear a Tupperware shirt Hook a keychain to your purse or bag Consider putting your website on your car rear window Use Tupperware at home when friends and family are over
These small things spark great Tupperware conversations! When people ask about your “branding”, you have to be prepared! Keep these things in your car:
Catalogs and Sales flyers – with blank post it notes on the front Order forms Key chains Preferred Date Cards
Pop Up Parties You can create a party in a variety of different places. When you take the kids to the park to play, find a table, display some product and make salsa right there for snacks for the kids! The mom’s will be amazed! Kids practices are another great place to have a pop up party! Football fields, Soccer Fields, Dance Studios, anywhere there are people! Don’t forget about neighborhood events like National Night Out! You can also do “tail gating” in parking lots. Take a partner to stand by the door of the store letting customers know that you are out there showing some awesome Tupperware products. Talk to everyone that walks by and give citrus peelers or business cards and sales flyers. Ask for parties and talk up Tupperware! Talk to Local Gyms, ask to set up a FridgeSmart, Quick Shake, Water Bottle table. Schools Find local schools and go in and ask the front office who you would talk to about coming in to feed the teachers! Get a date and go in during the teacher lunch periods and make salsa and/or cake. Do it throughout the entire time they are coming to lunch. Have a nice display, maybe a giveaway, (this is a great way to get contact info). Churches Find a church, start with yours, and find out when there are Ladies Events, Bible Studies, MOPS group meetings, MOMS meetings, etc. and ask to come and make snacks.
Work/Office Parties Ask friends that work in an office if you can come during lunch and make snacks. Or if they have office meetings monthly that you can make snacks for those too. Vendor Events Look for events happening in your area. Look through your community newspaper or newsletter for upcoming events. Fall is a great time of year for finding events geared toward Holiday Shopping.
Smidget/Tupper Mini Game If you use dating games at each of your parties, you will be successful and never “go out of business”! Booking 2 parties at every party is critical to ensure success! Everyone at the beginning of the party gets a Smidget or a Tupper Mini. Say something like this:
Hello! My name is XXXX, your favorite Tupperware Lady! Please take a Smidget/Tupper Mini. DON’T look inside! We are going to play a fun game later. Remember to hang on to it all throughout the party and think of what you would use it for, but don’t tell anyone else! At the end of the party, have everyone write down as many uses as they can, in 1 minute! Give raffle tickets or auction bucks for the time keeper helper. The one with the most ideas gets a free gift! Say something like this:
Now, everyone, I know you love your Smidget/Tupper Mini! And I know you want to keep it because you know all of the wonderful things you can use it for! You want to keep it right? Say YES! Okay, here is how you keep it… You will see that inside each one is a tiny slip of paper. Some say $1 off your order, some say $2 off your order, some say $3 off your order, some say try again, one says free piece of Tupperware, and the grand prize says, Host a party with ME! So, now if you want to play, open your Smidget/Tupper Mini! If you don’t, I have to take it back, no fair calling me an Indian giver! But, really, what do you have to lose? Any way you cut it, you get free stuff, and it’s all about free stuff right?!?! Don’t let that one person get out the door without dating a party!!!
Party on!
Dice Booking Game Supplies needed: 1. One pair of dice 2. 11 cards with envelopes numbered 2-12 2- GRAND PRIZE 3,4,5,12- WIN A PRIZE 6,7,8,9,10,11- BOOK A SHOW 3. Several goodie bags (Use little things like snack cups, tiny treasures, key chains, smidgets, Tupper minis, etc.)
Here's how to play: Ask, "Who here likes to gamble? Great because I've got a gambling game for you! The game is optional to play, but you will win something for playing every time. The way the game works is you roll the dice and you get the coordinating envelope for the number you roll." (For example, if they roll a 3 and a 2 they get envelope #5.) "Inside each envelope is a prize. In one envelope it says GRAND PRIZE which is ________ (hold it up for them to see, you don't have the item, show them a picture of it in the catalog.) Some of the envelopes say WIN A PRIZE. If you get this envelope, you will get a goodie bag to take home tonight. The rest of the envelopes have the best prize it. They say BOOK A SHOW! Now, the catch is whatever envelope you get, you have to follow through. So, if you get grand prize, you have to take home the grand prize. If you get Book a show, you have to book a show. And just so you know, having a Tupperware party is so easy. All you do is make the guest list and buy a few ingredients! I make all the snacks for you at the party! You reap all the rewards by getting loads of FREE products! So, do I have any takers?" Let them roll the dice and take their envelopes, but tell them not to open the envelopes yet. After everyone that wants to has rolled, tell them, "Okay, I have a deal to make with you. You can, regardless of what your envelope says, without even looking, go ahead and book a show. If you do so, you will get a free ______ like this one at your party AND you will still get the prize that is in your envelope. Again, you will be helping _____ out, and earning lots of free stuff for yourself." Let them decide what to do. After everyone has decided whether or not to make the deal for the prize, let them open their envelopes. Give prizes to those that earned them and book the shows of the people that made the deal or got it in their envelope. Make sure you book the show THAT NIGHT EVEN IF IT IS TENTATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! You can modify gifts and wording depending on your business.
Key Chain Booking Game This is probably one of the easiest ways to book parties at parties. Get a cute bag (I always get mine at the dollar store), some curly ribbon and tissue paper. Put a nice Tupperware gift inside the bag. I do a value of between $15 and $25. That doesn’t mean you have spent that much, you can shop at your discount, or use gifts, prizes or host gifts you have gotten for free or very cheap! Place the item(s) in the bag and make it pretty with tissue, I staple it closed so no one can peek! Tie 3 keychains to the handle of the bag.
At the party, place the bag in the center of the room where everyone can see it. When the party begins, tell the guests that at any time during the presentation, they decide they want to host a party, they can take the keychain of their choice. Explain that when all 3 are taken, the host gets the prize in the bag! During the party, I make a big deal when someone grabs a keychain! I also then let them pick a tiny treasure (this is optional, of course). At least 3 times during the party, I reference the keychain surprise bad. I may say something like, “Y’all know that by hosting a party of your own, you are helping your friend (host name) get more FREE Tupperware! Who wants to help her out?! Then at the end of the party, when they are shopping, let them know again that if their shopping list is huge, hosting a party is a way to get a lot of items for free or half price. As they turn in their orders, ask every guest if they would like to help their friend get more free Tupperware by hosting a party of their own. Have your Preferred Date cards out on the table and set the date and time right then and there!
Just a note to say “HI! from your neighborhood Tupperware Lady! Please give me a call if I can help you with:
