1 What got you interested in Rallying . Earliest memories. There was always rallying in our house when I was growing up as my father navigated for several local drivers up until the early 80s. The real thing I remember though was sitting on my father's shoulders watching Billy Coleman pass us at full chat in the Rothmans Porsche. I was 7 years of age and completely hooked on rallying from that day on.
2 Did you compete in any other Motorsport before Stage Rallying. Yes, Autograss Single Stage 2004. Can't remember where we finished but at least we did... Peugeot 205.
4 Who was your biggest influence in rallying. No one really just eat sleep and drink the sport.
5 What’s your favourite Rally, Why. Favorite rally West Cork.
Why: Pull 4th gear on the bridge in Ring village just before you fire her at the 4 right....then you will understand :)
6 Best result to date. West Cork 2014 27th O/A
7 The one that got away. Imokilly Single Stage 12.... a giant killing run in the 205 ended with a broken timing belt on the road section into the last service.... Game over
8 Do you help out at rally’s when not competing what do you do. A bit of everything really from marshalling to organising.
9 What type of stage do you like tight twisty stuff ( these days referred to as Technical) or big straights with junctions or a mix of both.
Flowing....I don't care how fast or slow it is just let it flow. Ardfield in West Cork is the ultimate flowing stage.
10 What’s good about Irish Rallying. It’s a real tight family. The events are run to the most professional standards by volunteers who love the sport.
11 What could be done to improve Irish Rallying. Make it more attractive to the beginner. F1000 like the UK, simple affordable cars that are competitive in their own class. This would let the driver and not the wallet win.
12 what do you thing of the Plasticbags.ie Southern 4 Rally Championship. Fabulous Championship. Great comradery among the competitors, superb events. Long may it continue.
13 What do you drive on the road. VW caddy Mon-Fri, Peugeot 306Gti @ weekends, wolf in sheeps clothing :)
14 Favourite driver in Ireland and on a world stage why? I always hugely admired Frank Meagher. Pure talent, always the underdog but in a two horse race he couldn't be beaten. In more recent times I would have to say Keith Cronin, he is a natural, pure and simple. On the world stage there was only and will only ever be one driver for me. Mr Colin McRae...
15 Do you think rallies should start later in order to give marshals an hour or so in bed in the morning? No, the organisers should be able to run a tight enough ship so the marshals don't have to meet 2hours before road closed. It’s ridiculous. Preparation and having the right people as stage commanders is key.
16 You win the Euro millions what rally car would you buy. Buying is for lazy people...I would build a complete Prodrive BMW M3 replica.
17 Have you ever co driven what’s it like from the other side. I don't do the LHS, those people need help :)
18 How can we get new competitors into the sport and people to do the official jobs marshal etc. Lead by example, not arrogance
19 What could be done to make rallying cheaper? Nothing for the existing class's but bring in F1000 for the new/younger people
20 Why is rallying the greatest sport in the World. Do you have all night???? :)

1 What got you interested in Rallying. Earliest memories. Going to rallies with my parents, Glenside Stages, Commodore Hotel Cobh stages ,Fota rally sprint, Always followed the circuit of Ireland, Memories of Ari
Vatanan passing below my house on the 20 and Pentti Arrikala going off in the DTV Chevette out by Lismore ,possibly 1979 on the 20 when it went into Waterford .
2 Did you compete in any other Motorsport before Stage Rallying. Night Navigation rallies, Munster c/ship class winner 94, 95 & 96.
3 When was your first rally where was it how did it go. What other cars have you rallied? West Cork 1995 seeded 104 finished 36th. 2nd in class & best newcomers. Great rally, big battle all weekend with Gavin Tivy & Mike Coakley, just pipped them on last stage ,real rallying with 2 standard twin cams both on our first rally. Second hand tyres , etc‌. Always rallied Corollas except for Noel Lappins 2.0 16v MK2 on Moonraker 2003
Allen Teacy / bob Fitzgerald 1995 Fastnet Rally.
4 Who was your biggest influence in rallying. Billy Coleman, Ray Benskin in the Glenside Escort & Denis Cronin in the black Most Homes Escort, True clubmen‌..
5 What’s your favourite Rally, Why. Has to be the Cork 20 , I have competed in it every year since 1998 ,except 2000 & 2002 when we did 00.Always a challenging rally ,long stages , weather unpredictable ,brilliant classic stages both east & west ,Fuhiry, Loch Allua, Kilnamartra, Sebastien Loeb said they were some of the best stages in the world.
6 Best result to date. 2012 & 2013 Imokilly Single Stages winning best Imokilly Crew . Bit asleep this year !!!
7 The one that got away. 2005 Southern 4 ,only had to finish Fastnet to win class 13 was leading class but got 2 punctures, went OTL trying to get 2nd wheel.
8 Do you help out at rally’s when not competing what do you do. Marshal at a few rallies
9 What type of stage do you like tight twisty stuff or big straights with junctions or a mix of both. Prefer tight twisty stuff, but I also like fast stages like Ardfield on the West Cork Rally.
10 What’s good about Irish Rallying . Closed roads , great choice of stages, good friendly atmosphere, all events ran to a very high standard.I have been to several rallies in the UK where they are ran out of a Shed !! .People here are spoilt, Hotels as HQ , service areas etc.
11 What could be done to improve Irish Rallying. Spectator control has to be constantly monitored, rallying cannot afford another serious accident, it still amazes me where people stand.
12 What do you thing of the Plasticbags.ie Southern 4 Rally Championship. Good Championship, great rallies but Imokilly should be full points, especially this year as it’s a mini stage .While we won the 2wd award this year we were under pressure to finish as we could not afford to drop a score having missed West Cork.
13 What do you drive on the road. BMW 320d.
14 Favourite driver in Ireland and on a world stage why? Keith Cronin, quick driver in any type of car on any surface ,easy on a car.
15 Do you think rallies should start later in order to give marshals an hour or so in bed in the morning? No ???? sure they would only stay out later the night before
16 You win the Euro millions what rally car would you buy. A Group A BMW E30 M3 & RSD 131 Abarth.
17 Have you ever co driven whats it like from the other side. Once with Mike Coakley in an Avenger ,I think it was doing 00 on the 1987 Carlow mini stage ,never again !!!!
18 How can we get new competitors into the sport and people to do the official jobs marshal etc. The competitors don’t seem to be a problem but officials & marshals …I wish I knew.
19 What could be done to make rallying cheaper? It’s all been tried before, the proposed weight limits were a good idea, whatever happened to them ??
20 Why is rallying the greatest sport in the World. Production based cars competing on all types of surface ,often separated by a split second .
