The two Ghostbusters films that were released in the 1980s were massively successful, bringing in millions of dollars. They also caused Ghostbusters to become an iconic piece of popular culture. Comic books, television series, action figures and video games were created around this franchise. Twelve Ghostbusters video games have been released. The original was released in 1984. The most recent game came out this year and has been well-received by the public and video game critics. The game has currently sold over one million copies. Let me discuss why this game has done so well. Many of us grew up with the Ghostbusters franchise. Just like you, I remember loving the movies, the cartoons and playing with toys. Once I heard that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis were writing the script for the new video game, I was very excited to see the finished product. I'm glad to say that this game has been well worth the wait. First, let's talk about the story. This game picks up in 1991, after the most recent sequel. The story revisits many familiar characters, including Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. All of the actors from the two films reprise their roles as the Ghostbusters we have come to know and love. The production values on this game are top notch. It feels as if you are playing through the longawaited Ghostbusters III. You'll encounter the same music, actors and feel that is present in the two films. This lengthy story should keep you busy for up to 10 hours. It is very satisfying and a wonderful journey every fan should experience. The sound in this game is great too. Hearing Bill Murray and the rest of the cast reprising their famous roles is a real treat. The humor and chemistry that we all remember is present in this game. The sounds the ghosts and civilians make is also spot-on. The soundtrack to this game is straight out of the films. The sound in this game will truly be music to your ears. The controls in this game are pretty solid. The learning curve is not very steep at all. The in-game tutorials are very helpful in explaining what each button controls. You should be able to pick up and play this game in no time at all. You'll be able to upgrade your weapons over time and trap ghosts with the best of them. It can become repetitious, but it is fun. The graphics are quite good. They are vibrant and vivid. They aren't as detailed as Gears of War, but they aren't anything to sneeze at either. The full motion videos, in between gameplay, really show what the graphics engine can do. The environments and character models are well done and will please any Ghostbusters fan. Should you buy or rent this game? If you aren't a big fan of the movies, you should at least rent this great game. If you are Ghostbusters fan, this game belongs in your video game library.
