Become a great giver of thanks and you will become a magnet for all the people, places and things you desire most. - Cindy Christi

Publisher’s Letter The Gift of Gratitude I believe that grateful people are the happiest and happy people are the greatest givers. My husband is one of them and he starts every day by giving thanks. For those that know him, life runs fairly smoothly. He is grounded, clear on what he wants and generally achieves his goals with ease. Some people say he is lucky however he prefers to credit the compound effect of making good decisions, being disciplined and having an attitude of gratitude - for everything. Become a great giver of thanks and you will become a magnet for all the people, places and things you desire most. An illustration of this I share often is the example of a hundred ferris metal balls, a flat serving tray and a bag of ordinary magnets. Imagine that you are placing one of these metal balls the size of a marble onto a flat tray with all the other metal balls and you tip the tray just enough to put things in motion, what do you think will happen to all the balls? Most likely, they will all roll around randomly, collide into one another and then scatter just as quickly as they all came together‌right? Now imagine that you placed the same metal marble in a bag of magnets for an hour before putting it on the tray. On the outside it may still look like any other metal ball. However, on the inside, the molecules aligned with the charge of the magnets such that‌.now when the marble is placed on the tray it effortlessly attracts and leads the others to it. The moral of this story? The more in alignment you are internally, the more magnetic you become to the goals and relationships you desire externally.

PHOTO BY: PETER SALAMA I am extremely excited to welcome our new Editor in Chief Kimberly Hosey, our growing team of photographers, models, artists and writers and our wonderful clients who we get to serve everyday. You are among the most dynamic, magnetic and incredibly gifted people I know. These pages are filled with your work, your stories and your dreams and its an honor to share you with the world! May LOVE, JOY, PEACE and the simple Gift of Gratitude be yours this Holiday Season!

Maddie Rose your whole day that much better. GIR: What is the most important way you serve your community?

PHOTO BY DAVID LLOYD ARTICLE BY: KIMBERLY HOSEY

Maddie Rose Holler was named Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen 2013. With her drive, passion, empathy and intelligence, we’re not at all surprised that this beauty from Surprise took the crown. Get Image Ready caught up with the teen role model to learn a little more about what’s important to her. GIR: What about being an Arizona Title Holder makes you

18

smile every day? What makes me smile every day as an Arizona Title Holder is having the opportunity to go out into the community and actively help organizations and individuals who are passionate about making a difference. There is nothing better than seeing someone speak with a sense of pride because of what they do to make a positive impact on someone’s life on a daily basis. It’s that one smile that someone gives you that makes

I think simply encouraging others to take part in community service is the best way to serve your community. If you are educating others on how simple it can be to get involved in making a change, hopefully you will have inspired at least one or two individuals to do something for the better. Many times it starts with one person making a difference, and soon many will follow, leaving their mark on the world as a result. GIR: How do you help your radio show guest with their image and or branding? I help my radio show guests with their image and branding by discussing what they are passionate about and what it is that they are all about. I feel that this give audience members an inside story as to who these people are. I feel like this simply enforces the image and or

branding of my radio show guest because people grasp one’s personality and what makes them unique from others. GIR: What are some of the ways you have invested in your own personal brand? I have invested in my own personal brand by simply staying true to myself. Many times on my radio show “The Fame Game with MaddieRose,” I reiterate the fact that I am a real person with real dreams. I just want others to know that anything is possible if you try and the work you put into something is what you’ll get out. Achieving goals takes hard work, sweat, and even tears, but when you are determined it is all worth it in the end. GIR: What are your favorite fashions for work, red-carpet, leisure? On a regular weekend event, I usually lean toward a nice dress, a pair of heels and maybe a cardigan for a nice polished look. For the red carpet, I love being able to feel glamorous and I think those are the most appropriate times to sport your favorite gown or cocktail dress, heels and jewelry. My attire for leisure, on the other hand – I typically find myself in sweats, a pair of leggings or shorts, in a simple tee with a pair of Converses. I say wear what makes you feel beautiful! GIR: How has Get Image Ready helped you put your best face forward? Let me start off by saying I absolutely love Get Image Ready! They have assisted me in putting my best face forward by being there in every aspect of the photoshoot process. The photographers PHOTO BY: BARBARA TRAINOR

are amazing to work with and they truly make the experience worthwhile. They help you achieve the look and feel you desire, and who doesn’t love amazing photos at the end of the day! GIR: How do you give back? I give back by striving to be a role model in my community. I try to encourage others to take part in their community activities, be a leader at their school or simply go after a lifelong dream because I am a strong believer that everyone is capable of great things if they try. I am continuously at work around the state as Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen 2013, promoting my platform “Supporting our Military through Action and Awareness,” by collecting stuffed animals, speaking to schools and working with local organizations with the same mission – organizations like the Arizona Vietnam Veterans and Operation Gratitude. I also assist various organizations such as the Children’s Miracle Network and Kids Hope during my year of service. Additionally, I speak to others globally through my radio show “The Fame Game with MaddieRose” on the VoiceAmericaKids and Kidstar Radio Network. I find this to be a powerful tool when giving back because I am able to use my voice to inspire others and let kids my age and beyond know what it is that I am doing and what they too can do. Laura Mendoza

GIR: How do you give back?

Article by: Kimberly Hosey Laura Mendoza, of Buckeye, is a busy woman. She is a Senior Brand Partner for Nerium International, she runs a studio design office, and on top of that, she loves to volunteer in the community. Still, Get Image Ready managed to pick her brain about gratefulness, personal and professional growth, giving back and glamour.

30

GIR: What about your work makes you smile every day? When I think about the things that make me smile in my professional life, the first thing that comes to mind is that I am blessed to be surrounded by people I care about. Being a familyowned business, my husband and I have worked side-by-side for the past 18 years, and my older children work in our office over their summer breaks.

Serving my community is very important to me because it keeps me humble and grounded. I enjoy packing food for under privileged families, decorating Christmas trees for women and children that are in shelters and volunteering at animal shelters to help find homeless animals a new home. Knowing that I am giving back always puts a smile on my face. Giving back has always been important to me because knowing that I have helped others reminds me of how blessed and grateful I am for my life and everyone in it. GIR: What is the most important way you serve your clients? I have been fortunate to be surrounded by very intelligent and positive individuals that have helped me grow as a person. Any

opportunity I have to share what I have learned with my clients or friends, I am happy to do so. GIR: What are some of the ways you have invested in your own personal brand? One of the ways that I have invested in my own personal image is keeping an open mind to learning new things. Growing up in a family that wasn’t big on change and always stayed in our comfort zone, it was a challenge for me to think outside of the box. I have recently attended several personal development seminars and continuously fill my mind with positive literature. GIR: What are your favorite fashions for work, red-carpet, leisure? Even though I consider myself a tomboy, I think fashion has always been a big part of my life. It’s amazing me how a certain outfit can make me feel powerful, feminine, and stylish all at once. Since I run the office for a contracting design studio, I normally wear jeans with a trendy blouse – but my favorite look is absolutely evening wear. Nothing is more fabulous than dressing up and feeling glamorous.

Gelie Ackenblit

GIR: What is the most important way you serve your clients?

PHOTO BY: PETER SALAMA ARTICLE BY: KIMBERLY HOSEY Gelie Akhenblit of Phoenix is the CEO and founder of NetworkingPhoenix.com, a tech start-up and an online resource that helps local professionals and entrepreneurs meet other professionals, learn to build their personal brands and put their best professional faces forward—all with a touch of style and flair, of course. With a shared passion for personal touches and professional polish, Get Image Ready couldn’t wait to catch up with her.

32

GIR: What about your work makes you smile every day? I love people. Smiling is just a natural part of my day, because I’m always around people – networking, presenting, mentoring. I smile when I make connections for people, I smile when I put together important deals to keep our company growing and I smile at the end of the day because I know I’ve made an impact.

With over 26,000 members, networkingphoenix.com allows me to touch the local professional community 24/7. The best thing I can do for our members is to teach them to connect with people. Once I give them these tools and show them the way to properly network, they’ll be able to achieve their results much faster and be more successful. It’s free to create a profile on networkingphoenix.com to start discovering local networking events and other professionals looking to meet. I want everyone to have access to these tools so we can all win! GIR: How do you help your clients with their image and or branding? I’m a big proponent of branding, and your image is a huge part of

that. With social media, you are building and maintaining your brand constantly whether you realize it or not. Every post, every picture, every “like” results in you branding yourself. Whenever I present on anything, I stress to the community that it is crucial to have their brand in check. Have the right images. Have the right content. Don’t just post aimlessly. GIR: What are some of the ways you have invested in your own personal brand? My brand is very important to me, so I invest in it daily. While it’s important to be real and let people see “behind the curtain” so to speak, it’s also important for me to be professional and polished. I have a few headshots, from previous GIR shoots, that I use for my social media outlets. They are all professional but also capture my personality to show the balance of who I really am. GIR: What are your favorite fashions for work, red-carpet, leisure? I’m a total “jeans and a tee” girl – with a fabulous pair of shoes, or course! Lucky for me, I can get away with wearing jeans and a blouse to most of my work functions. I think being an entrepreneur gives me a bit more leniency. I haven’t been to too many “red carpet” galas – but I love to dress up. In my closet, you’ll find two timeless black gowns that are a fit for any fancy occasion. However, when I need a splash of color; I’ll drop by the local mall to pick something up.

GIR: How has Get Image Ready helped you put your best face forward? GIR gave me the chance to explore a whole new side of me. I’ve dibbledabbled in photography while in high school and have spent most of my life on the other side of the camera; but getting in front of it was a total blast. I was able to practice getting comfortable in front of the camera and capture some timeless images that I use for work on a daily basis. From the photo shoots, I’ve acquired head shots and other photos that are now a part of my permanent marketing materials. GIR: How do you give back? My work keeps me involved with the community on a daily basis. You can find me teaching networking seminars, meeting with budding entrepreneurs and mentoring others on a weekly basis. Giving back to the community is what I do nonstop. I’m very fortunate that I was able to create a business around my passion of helping others and tie everything together.

MODEL This month’s spotlight is on a multi-talented High School Junior, Ariah Evans who is a force to be reckoned with on many stages! She’s a top athlete, a Varsity Volleyball and Basketball player; Ariah has the championships rings to prove it, with her team winning a National Championship in 2012 and a State Title in 2013. She looks to continue her athletic career in college but the Volleyball and Basketball courts’ bright lights are not the only lights she excels under. Ariah is also a Top Model for Arizona’s biggest fashion platform, Phoenix Fashion

Week! “I never looked at myself as a model, but people would come up to me and ask me if I was a model, so I gave it a try.” And that’s what Ariah did, last year at 15 years old. She not only tried, but she was also selected as one of the Top 40 models for Phoenix Fashion Week. She is back again this year shooting for that prized title of “Model of the Year.”

“I never looked at myself as a model...”

GIR: What inspired you to get into modeling? I never looked at myself as a model, but people would come up to me and ask if I was a model. So I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. GIR: How do you compare modeling and sports? I compare modeling and sports being similar. For example, you have to be committed, put time into it by going to practices, staying in shape, and you need to have the love and passion for both of them. GIR: What sports do you play? I currently play varsity volleyball and varsity basketball at St. Mary’s high school. GIR: Who is your hero? Who is your inspiration? My inspiration comes from the 5 lads from One Direction. They live in the moment and they make the best out of it. They stay humble and they love what they do.

GIR: What’s the best advice you’ve received? The best advice I have received would be to follow your dreams.

GIR: What advice would you give to new models? My advice for new models would be have fun, stay true to yourself, love yourself and make sure you’re happy with what you are doing. GIR: What are your goals for the future? My goals for the future is to attend college and continue to play volleyball. I would love to be a Victoria Secret model. I also want to work with children and I hope I can be an inspiration to others. GIR: How do you balance your life? I try to balance my life between sports and modeling. But Sometimes you don’t have control of what happens. For example, I sprained my ankle in a basketball game and I had a fashion show the next day. I walked in 6 inch heels with a swollen sprained ankle and I had to have a poker face for the show. I’m pretty busy but when I have time I like to go to the movies or just chill with my best friend. GIR: Favorite food? My favorite dish is chicken adobo (a Filipino dish). GIR: Favorite pastime? My favorite past time is spending time with my mom, sister and brother in California at Disneyland. We have been going since I was a little girl.

Make It With Wool is sponsored nationally by the American Sheep Industry, American Sheep Industry Women, and American Wool Council. It is primarily a volunteer program funded by the sponsorships of producers, fabric stores, and sewing machine companies and is coordinated by local, state, and national volunteer directors. This year, the Arizona Make It With Wool Competition will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Mesa Community College. GIR: What distinguishes the fashions you design from those of other designers? The thing that distinguishes the fashions I design from those of other designers is the time I take to create something unique. Every garment I construct is evaluated for style, color and fit for the intended wearer. As I stated earlier, inspiration abounds! With so much to sew and so little time, I chose to create only those garments that are the most flattering in terms of style and color. If the style and color are good, I can make it fit. This helps limit my scope.

I’ve never looked back and have been sewing many of my own clothes ever since. I’m happy to report Nancy is doing well and accompanied me to last year’s Arizona Make It With Wool Competition!

HEALING FIELD The Exchange Club of Tempe teamed up with the city of Tempe to host the 10th Annual Healing Field flag display, honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Volunteers placed more than 3,000 flags in Tempe Beach Park to honor victims. Each flag represents a life lost. Each flagstaff bears a victim’s name on a card, driving home how personal and real the individual losses still are.
