We are so excited to spotlight Katelyn Alberts! Katelyn is a successful Boston hairstylist, educator, and mentor. She has always thrived as a technical problem solver. After years of hearing the same frustrated stories from clients, stylists, assistants, and salon owners alike of how challenging it is to find the right matches in such a highly personalized industry, she set out on a mission to bring organization to chaos

What is VERVERY and what inspired it?

"VERVERY is a Boston-based app that makes it easy for you to discover the hair salons and stylists that are right for you. Now you can begin new beauty relationships so much easier. For years, I joked that “there should be an app for that'' every time my clients and friends shared similar stories of having to endure a Google labyrinth and regrettable decisions trying to find a new salon

"That spark led me to cosmetology school. After 20 years of being behind the chair and becoming a master colorist, educator, and mentor - my passion for this industry has now taken me beyond any path I could have envisioned back then, and on to something much bigger "

Where did the name VERVERY come about?

"Naming your business is so hard, isn’t it? I knew I wanted something different! Something new and inventive. I was inspired by the feeling I wanted people to have going into a new beauty experience. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, vulnerable, and unsure, I wanted people to go with VERVE and confidence - ergo VERVERY!"

What is NEXT for Katelyn what else are you working on in the coming year/a goal you have!

As a professional, I also hated not having anywhere to refer my clients if they were moving Or, even if they needed someone that specialized in a service I didn't do! The inefficiency and lack of evolution in such a personal industry gnawed at me until finally, I decided to just build the app myself. "

What inspired you to become a hairstylist?

"I was definitely an artsy kid so a creative career was in the cards for me As a teenager, I was extremely drawn to the power and impact of physical appearance and what it means to feel like…yourself."

"My goal for this next year is to really just keep pushing forward building a thriving marketplace. I want to find as many highvalue hidden gems around Boston as I can, and continue evolving the platform to be exactly what people need it to be Along with helping clients find their dream matches, I’m also working on helping stylists find their ideal salon environment too. I’m a hair matchmaker now and it’s a whole new kind of satisfying!"

How can people find VERVERY?

"You can download VERVERY in the app store to find new fun matches in Greater Boston!"

As you get dressed or shop for clothes, you naturally think about what you want in your wardrobe and that’s great It’s important to focus on the positive.

Sometimes, however, it’s helpful to consider what you NEVER want in your closet no matter what!

First: Drab Colors

While there are some colors, like pale gray, that don’t look good on a lot of people, one person’s drab color could be amazing on someone else

Why? Because of the difference in each person’s natural (hair, skin and eye) colors. Your natural colors dictate the colors that look great vs dreary on you
